It did get a buff in this patch, and honestly, we just completely missed the patch note. Sorry about that! The per-level armor value was increased by 100%.

Well done, and about time!

So in addition to a global 50% damage reduction, light armor values are increased by 100%, and as icing on the cake we have a bunch of bugs that benefit shield bubble builds.
So, as suspected, the "1vX perma bubble 'come at me bro" build isn't going anywhere. It's been effectively buffed.

Well damage shields will be able to be hit with crits in the next PTS update, so they will be far easier to get through then they are now which should stop a lot of what folks are complaining about.
I still says as a Sorc just remove damage sheilds and replace them with flat damage reduction spells like the Alteration School of Magic has had in TES universe for almost a decade now...Sorc's Get Ebony Flesh, Templar;s Get Aegis, and Dragonknights get Dragonhide, all which give a flat 25-30% damage reduction from all sources for 6-8 secs, your sitll hitting their HP pool, spamming it will not save them like Damage Shields currently do, they will prevent light armor users from being 1 shot, and will stop the things folks are complaining about while still making 1vX viable to those who are skilled at that sorta thing.

@RinaldoGandolphi
Next patch damage shields (and damage and healing) are going to be scaled the way they should be with a multiplicative battle spirit buff. Rich Lambert said they're going to hold off making them critable until further testing is done.
This should nerf Hardened Ward and Healing Ward considerably as well as the damage of some of the more absurd skills out there.

@Ezareth
Interesting.If they deem shields fine with these changes and see no need to make them crit., The fact they actually buffed light armor a bit, this may not be so bad after all. Good to know!

That is the way armor was prior to Update 6. It was a disaster. Everyone hated it. The whole game was basically everyone running around in light armor + staff, doing huge damage but also having huge mitigation. Heavy Armor and Medium were hardly ever seen. Even tanks in Trials were wearing light armor! I don't want to go back to those bad old days. It might work in more restrictive games where only certain classes can wear certain armors and wield certain weapons. But in the freeform world of ESO, it was very unbalanced.

Not at all. Heavy Armor is for Tanking, it would be pointless if it don't provide any magical resist...
Heavy Armor:
- 3/3 Physical Resistance
- 2/3 Spell Resistance
- 1/3 Physical Damage
- 0/3 Spell Damage
Medium Armor:
- 3/3 Physical Damage
- 2/3 Physical Resistance
- 1/3 Spell Damage
- 0/3 Spell Resistance
Light Armor:
- 3/3 Spell Damage
- 2/3 Spell Resistance
- 1/3 Physical Resistance
- 0/3 Physical Damage

Armor needs to mean something. It just makes sense to me that lighter armor is for ranged DPS with low melee survivability (how it is right now) while heavier armor is for melee DPS/tanking

Punctuation would have made that so much easier to read!
Heavy gives a lot more armor. The fixes to armor pen coming in the next pts patch will make it even better.

Heavy should be for survivability, but still make way for stamina/magicka bruiser type builds to be viable as well as S&B for pure tanks. They definitely need to bring back/incorporate something for heavy attacks (not just melee or physical). For example right now its fairly tough to make a real battle mage. It's more viable to go pure light armor and stack heals/shields rather than do something like 5heavy/2light, stack spellpower and focus on staff heavy attacks and very efficient damage spells and utility skills, rather than the skill spamming that light/medium encourage.
Maybe I'm grasping at straws here for a real sustained damage bruiser build, but the devs seem to be encouraging extremes and not making efficient, durable, generalists more viable.

So ? Even with that fix there be no point cause dodging and shields are still gonna be more powerful than heavy armors actual defense and on top of that heavy armor only offers boost to armor and spell res and a reduce block that's really all it has going for it. The rest of it's passives are under powered such as the health recovery heavy armor at max only offers 7% boost to health recovery with 7 pieces equip while medium and light armor offer a max of 28% with all 7pieces equip. 7% to 28% which do you think players are gonna go to more and again shields and dodging right now are much better defense in PvP than actual armor and spell res cause even with out the bug some players have 20%, 30% or 40%+ penetration powers special spell penetration thanks to Nirnhoned.
So how it is on live and PTS even with the changes light and medium armor offer just as good if not better defense options than heavy armor AND they also offer damage unlike heavy armor. Heavy armor is laughable under powered cause the best passive it has going for it is reduce cost for block that's it.
