Before you could just be a smartass and claim something contraversial and wait for the lol's to pile up
(LoL meant people disagreed and and laughed at you)
LOL was used ambiguously, either to laugh with or at you. It didn't give any points in either case (edited to add: except from the achievements/badges they unlocked when they did pile up).

Replace "X" with whatever the topic is.
So for instance in this thread I would say:

✭It's much harder now that we are living in the dark post-LOL era. Previously, all one had to do was post something mildly amusing or witty or even something disagreeable and you could farm sincere and sarcastic LOLs alike. Now, posters must strain to figure out how to use insightful or awesome ironically but it doesn't work well.
I suggest now that you just contribute on every thread complaining about something going wrong in ESO. There are so many you should be max level in no time.2 -
