If I play on console I don't like to type. But voice chat doesn't work very well most of the time due to numerous reasons.

How about some sort of quick chat option, similar to what already is implemented with the bubble text? Just a simple intuitive UI to quickly form basic messages e.g.
    LFG/LFM {DUNGEON NAME} {DIFFICULTY}
    WTS/WTB {ITEM NAME}
    Port to me/{LOCATION}
    Follow me
    My role is Tank/DPS/Healer
and so on. Just an idea.

This is the purpose of the Grouping Tools (they need some work) but this becomes redundant.
-Personally this is why I'm against adding text chat to consoles because it becomes a way for ppl to avoid using the games current systems that may need some work but are there so that you will not need to add text chat or additional text emotes

check out my suggestion tho above

Hang on you are against text chat because it would be more efficient than the games current system which you just admitted needed work? My head hurts now.

And the group finder isnt there to ensure you dont need text chat. Its to go along side it. Like you know every current MMO.

No, ONE of my personal reasons not to add it is because the intended usage of some users becomes their way of avoiding to use a built in system that needs a lot of attention.

See adding text chat box in zones, for some people, it adds value but for others it makes certain in-game systems preform even more poorly.

ie: Grouping Tools on the PC, now suffer from functionality AND suffer from months of people in zone chat telling others not to use it. LFG zone chat is not more efficient than a properly working grouping tool. In ALL MMO's a properly functioning grouping tool far outweighs any text chat efforts.

There are other system that become affected as well like Guild Stores, the forums for Guild recruiting, in addition to the affects it will have on the current voice chat.

*****Lets take this back on topic....I should have PM'ed you**********

So you rather force people to use a BROKEN groupfinder, than have options to find groups via text chat etc...

I hate to bring up WoW, but it has a perfectly working group & raid finder people use all the time so it isn't laziness on the players part.

    What's wrong with both?

Point I was making is if groupfinder actualy worked, people would use it....

& nothing I want both voice chat, text chat, & a working fraking groupfinder ... too much to ask for I guess ;)

LFG was probably a bad example as I agree people would starting to avoid the Grouping Tools like they do on PC.

Basically like your idea but also visible on screen (not only bubble) maybe just for everyone in your group. Because I actually tried using the bubble chat stuff in a group once and it was very disappointing.

Did you see the other idea about in the social menu...adding text chat?

Well depends really. I'm in a very active guild (not one from my friends list) who if i ever need to group up and do a quest I ask them. Talking to randoms in other vicinities, while it is an aspect that I can't do, i also haven't felt the need to want to do it. Maybe I'm not a sociable person.

Possibly would. But my argument is more likely as why would CONSOLE users likely be on forum. Its not the standard if you take my meaning.

I would also like to point out i was very pro text chat before release (even had arguments with blacksmurf on here over it), but after playing i find i haven't come across an moment where i have thought @damn i wish i had text chat'. I also PvP quite regularly and most of the time im glad i don't have text cause all i would be doing is calling the randoms idiots lol

just mute people eh? i would of thought deaf people be a higher ranked reason since mute people can still hear voice chat and than just use the poor emote want to group or yes when someone asks in voice chat something.

not to mention some people are extremely snobby where if you dont use voice chat at all they wont group with you. so that mute person is doomed anyways :P

This is ridiculous. You're calling the lack of text chat "game breaking." I would never use text chat on a consolr. Never. Neither would the majority of players. Consoles aren't set up for that. Use voice chat or get a PC.

I think having it in the social menu is an awesome idea. Allows for the designers to keep with their original idea of the game and that is a streamline clean ui, while still allowing those who wish to use the chat a place to do so. I mean compromise is something bothsides need to do for something to work. I see this as giving that compromise.

I highly disagree, it's called Options.

If they developer REALLY cared about Streamlining and having a clear UI then they would of taken that away on the PC version and just added VOIP, this clearly isn't the case.

    The Developers were clearly lying.

Ok. Go play those games then. This isn't a feature in ESO because the vast majority wouldn't use it and they're not going to implement text chat so a few people can avoid voice chatting. It's not that difficult.

lower left screen, semi transparent when not in use and have it minimizable. easy easy stuff wont effect anyones game play.

do you get mad when you loot stuff and text shows up in the lower left corner showing what you looted?

same thing but it will just be in a text box that wont effect your gameplay at all since it will be semi transparent and minimizable :P

plus it will add in tabs so hopefully they will add in a battle report tab where you can see how much XP you get, how much healing you did and how much damage you did. like a real MMORPG

On consoles, even if you have a keyboard....you're going to be just sitting around.

There is no way for a human to type on any device AND play the game with a controller on console.
*There are those type pads by third party companies but (on xbox one) you cannot use a headset and type with it. If its not via a keyboard the console type menu pops up and blocks anything other than typing and prevents gameplay so...keyboard is the only ideal option really.

same thing but it will just be in a text box that wont effect your gameplay at all since it will be semi transparent and minimizable :P

plus it will add in tabs so hopefully they will add in a battle report tab where you can see how much XP you get, how much healing you did and how much damage you did. like a real MMORPG

See, here's the real problem.. You guys want to .make this a game that it's not. Text chat, DPS meters.... this isn't that game. The majority of us are happy with it and don't want this stuff.

Text Chat should not be hidden in menu's.

I think having it in the social menu is an awesome idea. Allows for the designers to keep with their original idea of the game and that is a streamline clean ui, while still allowing those who wish to use the chat a place to do so. I mean compromise is something bothsides need to do for something to work. I see this as giving that compromise.

It would be pointless you would have to be sitting around with your socal window up, not doing anything else, hoping others are doing the same.

You might as well have the game turned off & post in a message form ... same result ...

If you are wasting time typing a message you aren't playing at that point anyway, so what does it matter? You people don't even know what you're asking for.

having to stop in town and spam voice chat for group or help while you could of been out questing is also a waste of time.

zone text chat, do a quick LFG captain bones. continue playing until you get reply or what not. instead of go to city beg for help via voice chat and hope people have their voice chat on to even hear you and wait until someone replies while you sit around in the city asking for help on voice chat.

text chat wins :D add text chat please.

No it doesn't, this was never the case in any MMO's talk abut Fear Mongering

Yes you are being able to communicate to more people at once is part of MMO's since MMO's are all also about being Social.
It also strips away one of the MAIN focuses of MMORPG's which is ROLEPLAYING.

Mira...thats the point of why adding it like it is on PC doesn't make sense.
On consoles, even if you have a keyboard....you're going to be just sitting around.

There is no way for a human to type on any device AND play the game with a controller on console.
*There are those type pads by third party companies but (on xbox one) you cannot use a headset and type with it

I'm trying real hard here and its not even my desire.....what other suggestions do you propose?

Typing in text chat wouldn't be for "when you're playing", voice chat rules when it comes to dungeon runs & raids because you can communicate & play at the same time, but you can read text chat ANYTIME & chose when to respond in text at anytime of your chosing.

This isn't a one or the other agruement .. its a WE WANT BOTH PLEA!

*edit* I'd also like to point out there is no way for a person to type out a message & play at the same time on the PC as well so whats the difference?

    Please suggest another proposal then....
*having it as seen on PC has already been shot down by the devs so....I think its worth coming up with alternative ideas for discussion.

This is ridiculous. You're calling the lack of text chat "game breaking." I would never use text chat on a consolr. Never. Neither would the majority of players. Consoles aren't set up for that. Use voice chat or get a PC.

DCUO, FFXIV and Neverwinter would like to have a word with you.

Also, youve only been here since a day after release on Console. Ive been playing this game since beta for PC. Text chat is definitely apart of this game. And it should of never been removed. To act as if people are trying to ruin the game by adding a basic and common communication function that has been implemented in every successful MMO, including the one you play, is absurd and irrational. And according to the poll..The majority definitely want a text chat, or atleast would welcome it so please stop trying to pretend as if youre the voice of the majority here.

    irrational fear it definitely is.

Text Chat was NEVER a divisive feature EVER. Nor was it ever a Feature people were EVER against for many reasons.
