idk, i just see text chat being for global/zone use and voice for dungeon/group use.

its a perfect match made in heaven. because frankly right now voice chat for "area"chat sucks. how am I to ask for help or a group if im at the place i need help with if voice chat only covers this small circle around me and everyone else is in the city. if i leave to find help its more than likely i wont get help since they are in the city for a reason and while i was looking for help someone actually came by to do the thing i needed help with and i could of just teamed up with them but now im double screwed cause i cant find help in the city and i missed my chance to get help by this random person who just did what i needed help with.

text chat i can just type "could someone help me with captain bones" in zone chat and someone who also needs him or is close by can come on over and help out and it will be a win-win for everyone involved :D

yeah...I think there are others that have your point of view too.

I'm not sure if you're actually asking me a question or just commenting.....but what I've found a best practice is to not leave town alone. Very often I stay grouped with at least one other person even tho we may be adventuring in completely diff areas and on toons that aren't close in level BUT who can provide aid in the event of a need. Just use travel to group player....then port back when done. I scratch their back and they scratch mine...but thats me. I dn't disband unless I leave for a dungeon, otherwise a group of 4 ppl where maybe one is online and when another pops on, we chat. Also the guild social interface can be used this way.

Diff environments can provide opportunities for different behaviors. Thats what works for me. I hope you find what works for you.

There is a percentage bonus for XP gain while grouping.

There may be diminishing returns for more than two ppl but keep in mind in my comment above, the other group members aren't online and jump in and out. You can also use party chat in the same manner which may be more ideal but this removes the ability for Guild chat, in-game group chat and prox chat.

mix and match...be flexible and sensible with your friends list and guild members.

You will receive less xp if you have more than 2 people in a party. i do believe they have to be with you killing stuff for it to be affected. Not sure if you xp would be cut if they where across the map.

I'm very interested in this topic and I'd like to share my game experience concerning the Group Finder tool.

Each time the group finder tool alerted me that I've found a group, it seemed to fall apart for a number of reasons.

One time I got a group, I traveled to the dungeon we were supposed to do and waited 10-15 mins. nobody showed up or said anything.
So I hooked up my mic and tried again.

This time I get a group, I travel to the the dungeon and wait, while asking the other players if they are on their way.
No replies and only one guy shows up. We wait around for 15 or so mins then he leaves, and I do as well.
The next two times I tried were unsuccessful, no one communicating or showing up for dungeons until the group broke up.
Finally success! No one speaks, but we all show up for the dungeon, fight together and win!

My experiences since then have been similar. Mostly confused disbands with an occasional victory.

Nearly every 4 person group I get into has people who don't use mics. That's not going to change, and being unable to text chat in game with them negatively impacts Everyones experience.

I share the room with other people who are usually watching tv so I sometimes have to turn my sound down, which means not using the mic either, so I don't resent those who dont speak in groups. I understand sometimes the situation just doesnt allow it.

As a multiplayer game I think you should aim to add tools to aid in communication. For example, more quick chat options, improved voice chat, and yes, Text chat! Please!

Ha! This is essentially my experience as well.

Either nobody bothers going to the dungeon and the group disbands, or we all show up and we just get going....which is usually interesting as I'be been the only healer in the groups, and they were my first attempts at the various dungeons.

Although part of this is also an argument for prompting people to accept the instance once a full group has formed, and then teleporting them straight to the dungeon.

I would rather see just chat bubbles for console. That is good enough to trade and to form groups and join guilds. No need for global or zone chat when that would bring out the gold sellers.

I voted yes, but first they need to implement more important changes to the Console...such ad the ability to read the % of a monsters health bar to enable fights such as vet dsa to be more accessible to the standard console player. As at the minute it's insanely difficult to do without any idea of his hp.

This also goes for other bosses where needing to know what % his health is on to enable completion of gold undaunted pledges.

This should have been an option from the beginning. In fact voice chat should not have been implemented or, at the very least you should have to join it instead of it automatically placing you a chat with idiots that call themselves stupid names. I once heard someone call themselves a "Gay midget pirate" Honestly how long does it take to think of that?

Honestly, our game makers are being held hostage by the four guys here who keep insulting zos for not making the game exactly as they want despite being informed prior to release there would be no TeXt chat.

Start as many polls as you want.

    PS.
PC comments are invalidating any actual results you hoped to achieve.

First of all, learn to count, just in the page in which you put this message, I can count 9 different posters who voted yes to this poll. Second, about "being informed before release" you're wrong. I wasn't informed, becuse I'm not among the guys who spent 6 months prior to release to look for info about the game. Until release, ESO was not even close to having my attention. When I bought the game, I did the same kind of reading that the average gamer does. I read the playstation store description. The playstation store description doesnt mention anywhere that this game would be any different than the PC game. It did not mention anywhere that, contrary to every other mmorpg in history, it did not include text chat. If it did, maybe I wouldn't have bought it, but it didn't. I knew this game existed on PC so I assumed it was the same game.

That being said, I can't be among the same people who keep repeating since april, because in april, I wasn't even considering playing this. The game came out at the right time, while I was bored and had nothing to play, and so I bought it. Maybe I'm alone in my case, but I highly doubt it.

Among the 244 yes votes, let's say 50% are PC players (it's not even close to be the case i'm sure, but just for fun). You still come to 122 for and 58 against.

Now count that, among the 58 against, there are prople like me who are FOR text chat, but AGAINST having it forced for IC. But let's say I'm the only one (it's probably not the case but still, just for fun) you get to 123 / 57, over 66% of the votes.

Even though this poll is probably not accurate, it still gives a pretty good idea. I did ask in game. Ofcourse not in town where over 75% of the people have their mics turned off, but I did ask among my guild. NOT A SINGLE PERSON that i asked said that they are against text chat. ALL OF THEM said it would be a nice addition. including those among them who never played mmorpgs.

One last thing. Ever since I've had an HDTV and an HDMI graphic card, I've never been sitting at a desk to be on my PC... I've played FFXIV for 2 years on PC while lying in my bed, and playing with keyboard and mouse. Saying that playing with a keyboard other than at a desk is uncomfortable is only in your head, as I'm sure I'm more comfy lying in my bed than you are on your chair.

I see just a handful of the same people trying to argue their point on no to text chat. You are losing the battle and your hundreds of post from those same handful proves no point. The majority of mmo players will tell you yes to text chat peroid. No point to argue your useless points when experienced mmo players knows that text chat works. No matter what you still try hard to prove your right even though your arguments are very very weak. Please let others speak as you have spoken and continue for some unknown reason to waste your time convincing others that text communication is not important to a mmo. I realize you like hearing other people in zone saying bro every other sentence and love music blasting in your ears. There are many of us that do not like this and like meeting others that are not this way.

    Comprise idea:

Instead of adding a text chat box (this I'm not in favor of and from the comments it seems that "text chat" is assumed as such by those who want the feature)....

can we all agree on adding text chat bubble and a text chat box within the social menu?

-I'm also not for a text zone chat but could fully support text chat bubbles (with item linking)

    Another idea is:
    On console only:
Open up text chat (not in a text box on the normal UI screen while playing but within a social menu)
-this would function, look and work just like the PC version of text chat with one exception. It's in the social menu

    Please comment, etc.
trying to compromise my opinions and hopefully at least get you all for text chat another official response from ZOs

*Ill post this in the other thread too*

New player , just got the game on sale. I've played Final Fantasy on the PS4 and yes thought there would be text chat here also. I very much want this as it does not feel much of a massive multiplayer game to me. Every mmorpg I have played on the PlayStation 4 has had text chat.

Please add this. I like the game but do not see myself continuing to play without being able to talk to people all around the areas. I like to talk outside of guild and just who is around me and have made many friends over the years.

I have not every page but most, and would appreciate if others didn't try and speak for other PlayStation 4 players other than themselves. I asked in voice chat and multiple times had people say they wanted both also.

I want to ask all the @ZOS Devs & anti-text chatters here a simple question.

Have you on the console ever tried to form / get in a group for VR content? Be it Craglorn quests, VR Dailies/Dungeons, or Trials?

I not talking about pre-made groups or on a test server or anything ... on the live server with the ONLY form of communcation is voice chat.

Come back afterwards & then try to tell us how great voice chat is & there is no need for text chat.

    Hi Mira,

Yes..but I will say that for myself, the game itself doesn't hinder me as the console and the relationships made via other games are situations where we bring friends and family as well as meet new friends so forming groups for encounters is no different in this game from any other console game online.

For the new to console folks, it takes time to build up a good friends list but because most games on console do not rely on a text chat meet n greet, the addition of such a feature is somewhat foreign to some and will affect the visual presentation on the screen. In some cases, that is a deal breaker in the console world.

The behavior on consoles should and usually is...hi new person...you're nice, today you're gonna meet XYZ of my friends as we want to do an encounter together. New firend meets more new friends and the exponential way this works as new friend 1 ends up with 3 new friends, so on and so forth eventually adding 10 - 20 new ppl. Everyone knows someone else and often times within the same game, many ppl have colliding circles of friends. The Xbox UI outside of the game also promotes friend list growth so....yeah....

Friends list - or prior interactions list on xbox (I'm sure PS4 has a similar thing) its just a invite via party chat and go.
Are there times that i want to do something and cant find enough ppl....SURE but that has little to do with text chat not being on the console.

The larger issue with forming groups is the design and limited nature of the grouping tools on the game (regardless of platform) and there are opportunities for improvement. By adding text chat the behavior becomes (anti-usage of the games systems) and this overall is a negative impact as seen on PC which I'm in favor of preventing on console. Also, as we've seen, if something is not largely used then its not a priority to fix for Zenimax.

The grouping tools need a complete redesign and even the upcoming changes wont address those issues.
That's the issue specific to your question above.

*FYI - I attempted to post a compromise in this thread as well as others for text chat overall on consoles.

Also I would like to note I like the music in games , the sounds of the game , and still socialize and chat with people at the same time.

I don't want to be forced to hear all these sounds in voice chat.

Why should I have to pick between talking to others and being able to actually listen to the game and it's environment when every other mmorpg I have played on the PlayStation lets me do both ?

Just add the same exact text chat that pc has. It works wonderful there it will work wonderful here on consoles. Every single console mmo I can think of has text chat, and voice chat. I have no idea why this one only has voice. We need both for communication to be successful in this game.

I think this could work as a temporary solution and some people my find it enough. It still leaves those people looking for help in the middle of nowhere and in PVP with a weaker communication then if zone chat where to be added.

If I play on console I don't like to type. But voice chat doesn't work very well most of the time due to numerous reasons.

How about some sort of quick chat option, similar to what already is implemented with the bubble text? Just a simple intuitive UI to quickly form basic messages e.g.
    LFG/LFM {DUNGEON NAME} {DIFFICULTY}
    WTS/WTB {ITEM NAME}
    Port to me/{LOCATION}
    Follow me
    My role is Tank/DPS/Healer
and so on. Just an idea.
