Console: Should text chat be implemented with the IC patch?

Besides being able to communicate better with each other do to in game activites, adding text chat would further improve RP with other players (especially for those that play non-human race toons, or opposite sex, or simply uncomfortable RPing with voice). It would be even better if we were given the option to have our toon name appear over our character instead of gamertag.

This is how I feel right now. I love roleplaying in the Elder Scrolls games, and I used to roleplay a lot on PC and even lead a roleplaying guild, but I just am not comfortable faking accents, roleplaying my male characters, or just using voice chat with strangers.

I feel like the game's potential for roleplay is completely gone on console.Using emotes that aren't on the wheel barely works too, because your character just turns around, shuffles their bag, and when you select the emote, they turn back around when the emote is already done.

All my characters have lore-friendly names and I would very much like to be able to display them instead of my account name.

I was firmly in the need text chat but after playing since start on consoles I now feel that I personally wouldn't use text chat except to call other players idiots (seem to run into them all the time) in PvP. Yes it would make organising attacks easier between guilds, but I feel i would now find text chat a distraction.

I can understand most of the pro-text chat arguments. And i believe you make valid points that would possibly help the game in areas that i don't use. But personally i now find i have no need for text chat as part of my ESO experience.

I think a quick band aid would be customizable quick chat emotes. That way, you could at least set up some messages you'll use often and much more likely, rather than the very e-peen "self congratulate".

Agreed or even text only chat bubbles (limitations of frequency of use )but more hang time for ppl to read a sentence

The chat feature could be inspired by Warframe. I love their chatbox, it works great and fit well into the game and would most definitely fit into ESOTU console. Yes.

@zos ability to ignore what is clearly the vast majority of its player base. (this poll has consistently been 80/20 in favour) is getting to be spectacular.

Still cant make up my mind if its rude or cowardly or incompetent.

    But its probably all 3.

So I love how they tried to justify not having text chat on console on a previous eso live (Episode 16) and from watching them you can't help but believe that they almost believe that its a bad idea not to have it as well lol

No... When you playing halfway and almost die ,you just shout on your party : heal me heal me, but if you type, you already dead. I come from ps4 destiny, the whole game with no typing and only use mic with friend or party in those hard raid, it was a success game play, this should work in eso.

Xbox Live Party System: Very good software, very clear, easier to use than Skype, quick invites, switching to and fro game chat. Muting players, etc. Very clear voice chat.

ESO In-game chat: A nightmare. No mute options. No options to set a default channel. No options to start your game with it turned off. INSANELY unclear. raspy, horrible sounds. And in PvP? Don't even get me started.

When you are in a raid you use the mic.

This isnt an either/or situation. Its about giving the most options. Why do people think one discounts the other?

You can tell they are not sure if this will go over well with fans, and they are catering to the new generation of gamers who are young and used to playing games like Destiny, COD, and Skyrim. They might as well have said we don't care for those MMORPG fans even though they will be the people that will still be playing the game from a year from now. The people they are trying to cater this game towards by leaving out text chat will leave this game when the next big game comes out. They should have thought about there future. Luckily there is still time to fix there mistake and add text chat before they loss more then just those hopping gamers.

You know their a Ton of console players who are already upset that they have to wait two weeks after the PC Version to get IC am pretty sure if this make them have to wait any longer they might leave the game.Just release its own patch for it dam don't make me have to wait for my content.I wanted Damaged numbers with the last Xbox patch should they had hold back that patch just for me no so I say wait and let the text chat have its own patch and lets move on.

You and many other PC non console players have been voting.

Let me ask you a question,

How is this poll valid in showing anything but the forums are full of people who will vote for anything?

On PC with a keyboard on a flat surface, text makes sense.

On my lap with my kid and my dog and my wife all competing for space and jostling around, no.

I think there's a link explaining zos decision at beta not to include text chat.
Its ESO live ep 16, 1 hour 5 min I think.

Some one said he thought they seemed apprehensive, and they were but not because the company made a design desicion they thought would make the game more fun for the whole community.

    But you can sense apprehension.

He was picking his words carefully because the internet is full of trolls.

They made a game. We as consumers made the one and only choice we really have in the process.

    Buy or don't buy.

This garbage of insulting people who make choices we dont like or agree with is weak. Most of this thread is intelligent enough to discuss without qq or starting pathetic 'walk out threads'.

Honestly, our game makers are being held hostage by the four guys here who keep insulting zos for not making the game exactly as they want despite being informed prior to release there would be no TeXt chat.

Start as many polls as you want.

    PS.
PC comments are invalidating any actual results you hoped to achieve.

Thats already in the game so I didn't assume that was what they were referring to.

i just dont understand why people assume text chat would replace voice chat. they both will be in game and if you have 3 things trying to play with your lap you can just stay on voice chat, tho i suggest you dont because no one wants to hear whats doing on with your lap over voice chat.

idk, i just see text chat being for global/zone use and voice for dungeon/group use.

its a perfect match made in heaven. because frankly right now voice chat for "area"chat sucks. how am I to ask for help or a group if im at the place i need help with if voice chat only covers this small circle around me and everyone else is in the city. if i leave to find help its more than likely i wont get help since they are in the city for a reason and while i was looking for help someone actually came by to do the thing i needed help with and i could of just teamed up with them but now im double screwed cause i cant find help in the city and i missed my chance to get help by this random person who just did what i needed help with.

text chat i can just type "could someone help me with captain bones" in zone chat and someone who also needs him or is close by can come on over and help out and it will be a win-win for everyone involved :D

yeah...I think there are others that have your point of view too.

I'm not sure if you're actually asking me a question or just commenting.....but what I've found a best practice is to not leave town alone. Very often I stay grouped with at least one other person even tho we may be adventuring in completely diff areas and on toons that aren't close in level BUT who can provide aid in the event of a need. Just use travel to group player....then port back when done. I scratch their back and they scratch mine...but thats me. I dn't disband unless I leave for a dungeon, otherwise a group of 4 ppl where maybe one is online and when another pops on, we chat. Also the guild social interface can be used this way.

Diff environments can provide opportunities for different behaviors. Thats what works for me. I hope you find what works for you.
