But what YOU don't understand is that text is not meant to be used when you're fighting. Of course i'm not going to type when I'm alone somewhere with mobs around my level. But the nice thing with text is that when I'm at a safe area I can scroll up, read, reply, in all safety. It's like you're driving, you get text message on your phone, will you reply? The difference here is that the message was not even sent straight to you, it could've been an important message from your guild leader to the whole guild, and if you're in group chat you won't even get it. Sure, they can send you mail, but how long will it take for you to notice?

Text chat offers the only way for people to stay in touch 100% of the time. To be honest, you don't even need to type if you don't want to but being able to read what is happening is never a bad thing. This is a large scale game, it needs large scale communications.

Also, adding a chatbox is exactly what will accelerate typing. Instead of going through PlayStation message, you use a cheap 5-10$ USB keyboard and you do:

Enter - /g I'm up for it! - enter..

Now I'm on my phone so it takes forever but with keyboard in hand...takes about 5 seconds...

Well then get better kid or play a fast-paced MMO on your PC like Vindictus. You get used to it. Actually, try Warframe. It has a perfect Text Chat system.

I think the only poll that matters would be in game with actual players going to be annoyed and pestered by a awkward keyboard.

The real solution is a companion app including text chat.

I play the game constantly and have only met two people who begrudgingly meh'ed in favor of a text chat option.

Go into game and ask around.

Most modern games on console use headset voice communication and controller driven input.

Key board clutter will likely alienate your core audience in favor of a niche group that is ALWAYS a perceived transgression from storming out to play ff anyway.

Go read the text chat thread and count how many people keep pretending to quit the game, yet comment constantly and are obviously going nowhere.

ESO is the best mmo on console. And its a pretty great game all around.

The app solution to finding groups in Destiny is terrible. There is no reason not to have an in game text chat with the option to disable or hide it.

You just cannot admit the truth. Most PC players have learned to ignore these types of threads, or they will not vote. Everyone who I have seen post about it plays on console.

I also just came from The Rift on X1, and sat there for 20-30 mins listening to the absolute shambles that is zone voice chat. What a farce, it was a big pissing match to see who could scream the loudest. I've never heard such a messy voice chat room before, and you could clearly hear frustration amongst people looking for a group or trying to sell a few items.

I vote yes. Please give us both options already, each form of communication has pros and cons. It can't be that hard can it ZOS?

Yes from me. Too many times I queue for group dungeons and no one will talk at all, even as I repeatedly ask the group what we are doing. Then it always ends up the group disbanding and find myself in queue again for hours as a dps.

No one is asking to remove voice chat, you just need both options. You can also type into chat using a controller its just slower, I don't think anyone has asked for keyboards to be mandatory.

I look at my screen.
I see someone shouting for a [dps] for [whatever instance]
I pick up my mini keyboard.
I type DPS here for [whatever instance]
I receive an invite.
I put down keyboard.
I plug in my mic
I say hello.
We all play the game.

How is all the above a problem for anyone. How does it detract from you're gameplay?

It doesnt.

Hell, there's even the PlayStation app that let's you type from your phone once you're prompted to on screen. For those that don't want to buy a keyboard that is. I already know lots of people are going to say that already. And yes, this only applies to ps4 but still.

Serious. I'm a PC player and cannot imagine living without: zone chat, say channel, 5x guild channels and group channel.
Zone chat being the most important channel so far not only because it's a lot better than any group finder but also to sell things like gold motifs & triple pots stacks but also to ask advice from the crowd (yeah you got a lot of trolls cr@p too I know) and interact with hundreds players at a time.

hope you console players got some usefull feature in that regard

It would be nice to be able to actually do Craglorn quests, Trials, VR & Daily Dungeons, but with a broken group finder & no text chat its next to impossible. I have yet to finish a single Craglorn quest in the past 2 weeks or so that I have been trying to do them.

How long do you think people will keep sitting around like this? Do you really expect them to pay for DLC's when they are being completely ignored on the console text chat issue?

Exactly the same experience as I am having.

At end game it is impossible to find groups, text chat is needed.

Trying to find groups to do Craglorn, dungeons and PvP is the worst experience I have had in an MMO, the game just feels so isolated and all the end game content feels out of reach because of the lack of communication and the ability to find people to play with.

I am just leveling up new characters. I have now got a Vet 14 Sorc and DK and I am working on a NB now. Instead of enjoying the end game content I am leveling alt characters. It would be nice to complete some of the Vet content and do Craglorn.

This is the reason text chat is needed, and a fix for group finder.

Should have never made it to console launch without text chat much less be implemented by the IC addon. Should it be , yes. Will it be , nope. Don't see text ever coming to consoles. I hope i'm wrong but I dont think I am. Major reason I just flat don't think this will survive beyond a cpl years at best. I could see the console population dropping considerably in the next 6 months. Will be interesting to see where the console pop will be by this time next year.

if they added text chat it wouldnt drop considerable in the next 6 months because people will be able to actually do things together thanks to text chat.

Yes, I would buy an extra wireless USB keyboard just for my PS4 were it to be implemented. It is incredibly frustrating not having text chat in this game, especially after playing it on PC for 10 months.

I see him in other chats as well, very against text chat (which is alright, that's his opinion). Look mrskinskull, I respect your opinion and all, but why can't there be both the ability to use text chat and voice chat? I honestly don't see the problem. This way if the person does not like the voice chat they can leave it and use text chat to communicate with the mmo world. If the person doesn't like the text chat method they can choose not to use it (and I would bet they would be able to hide it like most games that have it) and stay with voice chat, no problem!

For the people that make mention of those on the forum who threaten to leave if they don't get text chat, and believe they won't... trust me they will, its only a matter of time. You still see them here because the game is still good enough to keep there interest at least as a single player game. With all single player games though its only a matter of time till they have had enough and move on. MMO's are designed to keep you interested by adding more content regularly whether it be paid or free to the user, which this game is doing great. The part it is failing at in regards to an mmo (which is the reason people bought this game, to play an mmo) is implementing a social feature that is quite basic. This feature allows everyone to communicate with everyone, not just the socially confident group of people but also those who are socially shy, have a speech problem, hard of hearing, the list goes on. Warframe even has it in its system (both for console and pc) and is used so much! So I say yes those people that claim to leave will in due time, they are not threatening Zenimax, but warning them. They are warning them because they see the writing on the wall and are trying to save the game that they truly love before it goes on for so long that they can't bare to look at it any longer... like Destiny (RIP).

I think it should definitely be added, as someone who hasn't managed to join a massive pvp/pve guild and didn't transfer from PC I'm probably going to miss out on a lot of content, namely all the 4 man dungeons,trials ect. I would much rather have a text chat option so i have the chance to talk to some people with a proper group going to do some end game content and experience part of the game i have never experienced before.

It wouldn't delay the release of IC, atleast on PC, we get it later than PC anyway.
If this game had text chat it would probably my favourite MMO of all time!. I do think it should be optional for those people that don't want to use it though.

Exactly how many times does it need to be said u only speak for yourself no one else I'm sure you're just baiting and have been for a while. Eso is more than a year old . Imo dcuo at 1 pissed all over this. Not now , back then and I'll elaborate

It had a so much better progression system in end game , tremendous combat that required skill and group cohesion . Imo the pvp was better an much more reliant on individual skill . Campaigns though fun are essentially open world zerg fests but hopefully that changes with I.c. not knocking eso pvp I love it too but for different reasons. Dcuo had an active chat function making mmos so much more accessible than without . Or more to the point content was more readily accessible because of it. It had a great style selection system too. Also preferred the DC universe IP to elder scrolls

Eso on the other hand better leveling 1-50. More content throughout the process played like a good RPG (solo)
Better graphics and pvp stability in large groups
Better crafting system , more in depth
No loot locks (so far at v5)

So again. I'll ask don't speak like you speak for me cos were so far apart in our ideas it's not funny . I'm not comparing a 4+ year old DC to current eso . Admittedly it's better will it be that way in year 4? Who knows I certainly hope so. Will you be playing in year 4 doubt it very much tbh why are you so against text? Seriously as a toggle option why not? How does it affect you negatively? Please do tell me

Do you even realize how much easier it would make things with global chat? Being able to find exactly what you need without looking through numerous guild traders, being able to coordinate EVERYONE on your faction in PVP and not to mention lfg

So far I've seen two substantive arguments against: delay and one guy's "fog of war" point, but I believe that they are both easily answered. Delay: this would only apply should a fix effect PC and there's not a single reason in the world that it would. I know the fear comes from content starvation, but guys, it's live on PTS; a fix to this won't steal manpower from a DLC that's effectively complete, it's only tweaks from here. I think they can spare a couple people to fix something that WILL kill the game on console, it's only a matter of time and once those people have left, they're not coming back if MMO history is any indication. I say this to my console friends: we can't effectively participate in the end game content that exists today, how exactly are we going to handle IC which is clearly going to require more organization than anything we have now. Truly, as long as it were to effect consoles only, should we be offered text chat but at the price of a month delay, every last one of should be grateful; IC will otherwise be a small-scale melee between the few guilds that are both highly organized and highly active. Don't knee jerk; think about it: ZOS doesn't even intend to beta IC on console. Do you really think their in-house testing is going to be indicative of our experience, or even PTS for that matter? We should all know the answer.
As to "fog of war:" I see in you an eternal optimist, my friend. While I applaud it, there are faults with that point of view. The Cyrodiil map marks where battles are being fought. In a fog of war scenario, you would be in the dark as to what was happening off-screen unless told by either a player or an NPC, not be given a mystical map but inexplicably be cut off from communication with your front lines. In my opinion, this developmental fault should become apparent if viewed from all-angles and from all players perspectives.
