IC is pretty much a done deal, if it's not there already, which they haven't even hinted that it was, then I would rather they focus on bug fixing it before even considering to add more pork to it before it launches. Nor would I like them to delay the update, just so they could add this.

I voted no as I thought originally the title referred to voice chat in PC! Haha

But I vote yes as I can't imagine not having text chat in this game. I would go mad with just voice chat.

Maybe not in the IC patch though as it sounds like it is going to be another MASSIVE patch. Think of the downloading!!

I can only assume that you have a large network of guildies so you've never had to try to do a dungeon via group finder or that you play primarily solo. I don't see how anyone at all could not see what a massive networking issue this causes; you're not meant to play freaking mmo without a robust communication system.

@sirhctpac I gave my reasoning. Now, I didn't say I don't ever want them to add it. Just not waste time with something they've pretty much completed already to add more to it, and focus on the bug-fixes and balancing.

Text isn't for mid-battle communications when time matters.

Text is for zone-wide "looking for group", guild recruitment, guild organization, trading, and the asking of simple questions when the amount of time it takes to type something doesn't matter.

I still say no to Cyrodil chat, but definitely yes to Guild and Group chat and yes to zone chat, but only until they have created a way to find a guild and recruit people to the guilds. Cant they just use my NPC-recruitter idea for guilds too, guild leaders could put "guild invitations" around Tamriel and it cost gold. Thief guild could put invitation in Outlaw Dens, Merchant guilds could put their invitation around GAHs, PVP guilds could in Cyrodil or if your guild is for noobs, put one in Stonefall, for example.

Lately I have been spending more time in these forums than I have in the game.

Why?

Because I love ESO, and these forums are in text.

I have S.A.D. (Social Anxiety Disorder). (Yes, I know I shouldn't share this with internet "freaks".)
So, I don't like to HAVE to wear my headset, and verbally communicate with people all the time.

Before I play I take a look at my friend's list to see who else is playing.
And, if there are a lot of my "friends" in the game at the time, and I am not in the mood to talk verbally, I just don't log in.
Because as soon as friends/guildmates see a person log in they usually send a PSN Message, or ingame mail, saying something like; "party chat", or "guild chat".

I am an honest person.
But, sometimes I just have to lie and reply with "my headset is charging".
I HATE LYING!
And, I can't use that excuse all the time.
So, instead of lying to people, I just don't play as much as I would like to.

I have played MMORPGs going back as far as the Ultima Online Beta.
Text Chat has served me well.

The option to use text chat in this game would allow me to play it much more than I currently can.

That was something that took me a long time to get used to, when TS and Vent often became a must for some PvP group invites. Some days I really didn't feel like talking. At all. I got used to it eventually, but there are still some days when I just wanna sit and type and not have to chit-chat over a mic.

Thanks for sharing your issue, I feel it's important for people to consider exactly such possibilities when designing their games. If nobody talks about it, it will be overlooked time and again.

PC player here, but this was another of those decisions that left me wondering what the developers were thinking. I can't imagine zone trade/ guild business or LFGing w/voice chat only. I hope this gets fixed for you all soon.

Text chat AND Zone chat for consoles.

Zone chat should be text only though, can you imagine zone-wide voice chat?


Anyways, I feel as though I NEED text chat when finding a group for dungeons. None of my IRL friends have this game and I only join guilds if the other people in the guild are easy to get along with and are reliable enough to be there when I need them. So far, nobody I've met fulfils those requirements, so no guild for me.

Without text chat, ALL group content is a nightmare for me. It would be so helpful if we had it.
