Why do so many people complain about "questing"?

MerlinGambino
Seriously. It's part of Elder Scrolls and everyone complains they have to do it to level up. I don't understand, I thought part of enjoying a game was playing through quests and seeing a story. Seems everyone just wants to "grind mobs" for hours to rank up and forgot about any quests, delves, dungeons then complain about a lack of content. I'm a V4 player who has completed every quest in the areas I've been so far and am still enjoying it, I can see why people get bored of this game when all they do is go to mob areas and sit there all day waiting for enemies to spawn.

Quite simply because the rewards don't justify the time sink. Unless you're like me and want to try every option on every quest with multiple races to see if there are easter eggs, etc. then there's no real difference in playing thru Cadwell's or grinding. If you need the skill points just make some runs with a skyshard map addon and collect all the skill points you'll need. Why bother questing when the "rewards" are crummy green and blue vendor trash and the very occasional skill point?

Because I play Elder Scrolls games for immersion and Cadwell's is a grindy, immersion-breaking mess.

Doing the quests and storyline is fine, the first time around. I'm not about to do it all over again on seven alts. Almost every single quest reward in the entire game is instant vendor trash.

Because the quests suck just like other MMOs and its faster to rank up by grinding which also sucks but is more efficient.

It's usually fun the first time. Every time after that when you play alts, it just seems more and more tedious, and less fun.

Because when you've completed these same quests 3 and 4 times on your alts, you'll understand why people hate questing. It's like chewing on the same piece of gum for hours. It eventually loses its flavor. Not to mention, quests in this game feel extremely generic and forced. They lack the atmosphere and excitement that previous TES games held.

I grind mobs because I simply want to level a different class as quickly as possible and experience combat from their POV. I shouldn't be required to quest in order to do this. If you want to quest, then that's fine and dandy. Just don't go picking on my way of playing the game.

And yes, I understand grinding produces the same stale gum effect, but it is by far the fastest way to level in this game. Perhaps, if ZOS made questing worthwhile, I wouldn't grind. Change quest rewards and dramatically increase XP gained from questing.

Grinding used to be kind of fun, actually. When Craglorn was first released folks quickly figured out several routes that provided decent XP and even halfway decent loot drops. It was a blast and with 12 man crews running it was hardly a grind at all. Sure, there were some idjits who mucked up some of the quests but usually that was first timers who didn't know what to do.

But then ZOS decided that grinding, something every other MMORPG seems to have, was The. Worst. Thing. Ever. and actively worked to squash all grinding. First in Craglorn then in every other place in the game folks found to grind. Now grinding really is a mind numbing chore without the occasional bit of silly dialog to break the monotony.

How much does Zenimax hate grinders? Your armor degradation and repair costs are based on XP gained, not damage taken. That's how much.

Yeah, I've got 6 veteran characters and 12 non-vets. I have no idea how many times I've done each of the quests in the PVE zones, but it's definitely at least 3 times for each of them, and for all of the ones on the starter islands and first zone of each alliance it's got to be at least 7-8 times each. I still enjoy the questing...

Which has nothing to do with grinding and everything to do with being fair to tanks so that they don't suffer massive repair bills in dungeons compared to, say, healers.

Ehem because people dislike doing the same unrewarding quests over and over, that goes slower than if they just grinded their way up. Some of the grinders are pvp players and dislike questing in the first place.

I did the quest in veteran City of Ash and got an ornate blue v14 ring that held the value of 0 from the endboss chest and a blue bow for the quest itself. The skillpoint was nice, but I can not retake the quest, and everything els have been unrewarding.

Well I asked if you liked PvP. Got no answer, so I assume you don't. Why should you have to play PvP to get the things you want? Well I like PvP and don't think I should have to PvE to get the things I want and hell even level up. That's why I don't like questing. I have to leave what I enjoy doing to get things that makes me better at what I enjoy doing.

Just got back on the forums, I like PvP here and there but I am by no means a PVP player, I enjoy PvE. And the reason I asked is because I really was curious so I'm glad to get answers from different perspectives. Hopefully IC isn't a letdown for the PvPers, I can see how cyrodill could get boring after a while.

I enjoyed my first questing playthrough and the second one wasn't that bad.. But I'm currently questing up my 4th alt and everything is quite stale. If I didn't get the skyshards and a nice pretty map I wouldn't bother with questing on future alts, but it seems like the logical thing to do.

To be honest the real mistake was making players pick a faction at character creation in the first place. It could have been done many different ways that don't force you to pick a side. I only picked DC because I was interested in seeing that landscape first, lol.

In my opinion, all players should have been similar to a freelance mercenary for the time that they reside in whichever faction areas.

I am enjoying the game so far and the questing. About 95% of my experience has been good. The only real grievances I have had is with other players.

But I understand that people have legitimate issues to raise. The only real question is whether or not they know how to do it constructively without creating a ZOS witch hunt.

    1.) Grinding is more efficient.
2.) Quest rewards are a joke.
3.) After your second, third or even fourth run through they become quite boring.
4.) Personally "end game" PvP is all I'm interested in.
5.) Quest XP is far too low.

fair enough, I see you want a game that gives you max level and max gear so you can go straight to PvP. I can't see any reason why this can't be implemented for Cyrodil dedicated toons.

I'm doing them the first time around and I enjoy them.

I can imagine when repeating them they can get very boring. They are very basic and a lot recycle content. I've lost count of how many portals I've closed or focusing crystals I've destroyed.

So can fully understand why they might be annoying on new characters.
