ZOS have been taking lessons from the DCUO school of communication.

    <_< >_>

If they did that for in-game things we'd already have both all the voice chat options we currently do, as well as full blown channel based text chat.

ZoS seems to be taking hints from DCUO's wrong side.

Yeah, but we'd also see dungeon unlocking via replays, an instance scoreboard and a whole bunch of other issues...

Yea, but at least Mepps from DCUO will test it and stick it in the development section, and it gets put into trial for a hot fix or patch. This is garbage, these guys really don't care. BS.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

@ZOS, DCUO is a free download, go check out how they do voice and text, with the different channels on both. Pay no attention to the flying players.

Thank you for this precious advice - I wasn't able to assess my buying options till now.

By the way, your contribution to this thread stopped being insightful after your 50th or so post. No need to continue repeating things you've already said many times - I've already read and evaluated your thoughts on the matter. Of course, If you have something new to add, I'd try to take it into account.

    - - -

TL;DR: It should have become pretty obvious by now that the console version of this game simply doesn't work as intended without text chat. Core MMORPG features such as guilds, grouping, PvP coordination, trading, even roleplaying - all of them suffer due to poor player communication options.

Any post has become pointless after April 2015 on this topic....it's just ppl trolling

This is about the 16th thread after all those April threads were locked and or deleted

This thread only lives because ppl keep bumping it with no value and those that continue to argue back n forth.....points have been made, reasons to add and reasons not to add where both made sense in some circumstances but Zenimax has also responded

    The thread continues....

Zenimax has not responded, even if they did it wasn't enough to reassure the people that they will add Text Chat and damage numbers etc..., the only way for them to listen is to keep bringing up the problem. Which is why people keep on talking about it.

I'm not attempting to argue with you, but I do want to share that on two seperate ZOS live episodes, different ZOS staff members gave a specific address on their goals, ideas and approach which drove their decisions to remove this long ago from development intentionally.

Many are saying those statements aren't acceptable but those statements were not made for contest or debate. It was just FYI to address concerns such as this thread. It's not coming based on those statements and not being considered at this time at all.

They have encouraged the discussion in the thread only but at no point are they commenting because as mentioned above, the decision to remove was made long ago prior to release.

It kinda comical that people in the thread attack anyone who doesn't agree or who suggest the thread is dead due to official ZOS live responses...the thread as all are here for discussion primarily.

At times threads are linked when ZOS asks about different topics and concerns so MAYBE at some point in 2016 or 2017 this will be reviewed especially with the recent announcement from Microsoft that the Xbox one will in 2016 fully support mouse and keyboard use due to win10 update.

Right now tho, until that occurs, based on ZOS' point of view......just feel free to discuss only but don't expect any considerations to change as it's not on the list.

He's one of many on both sides.

Personally, I've been extremely pro text chat since before the console beta when it was first revealed by a correction that @ZOS_JasonLeavey made that it will only have voice chat. I think I predate Varicite on it, but I'm not entirely sure.

There's also the opposite side where NewBlackSmurf, defcon, and others has been against text chat since before the beta as well.

My point is that the determination and origin of when a person speaks about it is not important. What matters is pure numbers. I think. I'm still not sure ZoS has cared about this thread at all since page 8 or so.
    -

Oh, yes, I,m sure there are multiple people on both sides. I pointed out to him because he's the OP and I remembered seeing him pretty much throughout the thread. What I meant is more in the lines of not giving up after all this time and still continues to persevere. You guys are also determined, I'm sure of it, I just didn't take time to pay attention to who did more than 3-4 posts.

That being said. I know the devs remain silent on the problem, but the more this thread keeps going, the less they can ignore it. I'm sick of people saying it's only a vocal minority repeating the same thing all the time, because those vocal people need to do it since a lot af players A: have no idea there is an official eso forum, B: don't come because it's just people bashing each other (which it is, just like every other mmo forum), or a multitude other reasons.

I talked to quite a few people in my guild and pretty much all of them agreed that text chat should be in, but I don't see them post here, partly because they don't like forums, but also because they don't have an english as good as mine (yeah, maybe you didn't realise it but english is not my first language). The french text chat thread exists, but it's not quite as active as this one. The point is if I don't see people of my guild post here, that means there is a lot of people who want text chat, but don't come here to say it, and for their sake, I'm glad that some people are holding hard to this.

I'm sure if they did a world wide poll on the consoles and asked everybody before entering the game to answer the poll the majority would say yes for Damage numbers etc... and Text Chat.

I honestly don't know why people think having less options even on Consoles is a bad thing.

Destiny had no Option to turn music on and off this is how Obnoxious it's gotten. IT NEEDS TO STOP.

Just because I like the convenience and affordability of consoles doesn't mean you should take away these options and design choices that work well on both platforms. It's like they're treating the Console Base as idiots who don't even know how to use a KB.
Proof that the majority would say they want text chat.
well we will never know since they'll never ask.

You are talking about eso live episode that happened months before console was launched. I would like to hear there thoughts now that console has been out and they have received freed back. Let face it ZOS has changed many things about the game from first launch on PC. So to say just because the had one idea long ago that it will never change is not realistic. We need a response from zos now not long ago.

How is it inferior? By all accounts this game plays better on console then it has on PC.

A game running better doesn't mean it's not missing features. The fact text chat existed in the beta test means they had to put in effort to remove it. Removing features is almost never a good idea and I will never buy ZoS's excuses for it omission, that being said I actually have no issues with in-game voice chat but the problem is that it's the only option. Text is a staple feature for a reason.

That's not true text chat wasn't in the beta I should know I was apart of it.

Yeah, this guy is one hundred percent correct.

I say call a poll of actual players at the boot screen of ESO.
No biased forum polls skewed and conducted by one side or the other.

I say cater to the actual gamers playing the game.

So many people have claimed they left the game over this matter, I think that means zos should cater to the players actually playing the game, as in the 99 percent of players who didn't even notice the text box status because most people don't want a DMV vision test from across their living room every time some gold farmer wants to move some product.

The text for ESO was enlarged for consoles. The tiny PC text was fine right next to the PC player.

The text box on console would likely end up having to be enlarged about 40 percent from PC as well.

What is that going to look like?

Check the DCUO videos for how chat can work on a console.

Multiplayer <> MMORPG. Text chat in Killzone or any other FPS? Yeah...no.

FF:ARR and DCUO? Well...it's kinda there by default.

I'm not really sure where games like Destiny fit...but they seem more voice chatty to me for some reason.

The problem with catering to the actual players, is that you lose any perspective around who is leaving and what would keep them engaged.

Pro-text chat guy: Hey ZOS, you know you could expand your player base if you added text chat like those other MMORPGS?

ZOS: Nah, too much like hard work. We'll just cater to the existing player base....who cares about the players who leave or those who want to play but just get put off by the lack of text chat. We don't need their stinking money anyway.

Actually i've been playing PC and consoles for over 20 years... Console multiplayer games are VASTLY different to actual MMO games such as this.
People are still unable to grasp the simple concept of an mmo requiring text chat and still defiant to the end to defend a VoIP chat only system...
Again its not like we are demanding they remove VoIP?!? Your also missing the point you are able to hide the text box if you so wish... So i really don't see what the problem is?!

    Whoa there.

Despite being vastly superior, many PC games still consider controller support a secondary function.

As a console player, I fume at the exclusion of my favored input.

I don't lurk those game forums demanding controller support.

Its just the cost of doing business on PC. Wasd and mouse is king.

Here in console land, that's what this argument sounds like.

I play on console over PC mostly because of input choices.

I love controller plus headset. I love casual players who aren't contemplating bankruptcy because they need a new vid card.

Remember when jungle made a kinetic mmo set in space for console players and made keyboard chat a priority?

No. That never happened and its selling just fine.

Personally, I want new content. Dlcs, arenas etc.

All these threats of going to the cash shop dcuo or the cutesy monthly charged snooze fest of ff online are probably having the opposite effect.

ESO is better than dcuo in terms of quality, story, writing , community etc and its not a pay to winavaganza.

Ff online charges its players by the month for the same game. Over and over. Plus ESO is at least as good and by most accounts better.

I can't understand why we don't have text chat. I would love to buy some rosin and temp alloy by whispering someone using text chat. Grahtwood and Reapers March are 2 zones I can't stand to enter due to all the yelling and many different background noises. I ported today to reapers march to see if anyone had any temp alloys for sale. The moment I got off the wayshrine someone thought they were in a club blasting music. How is that pleasant? Then you have guys cursing each other over undercutting in zone. I just want to utilize the missing text chat feature like the game was intended. I could whisper the person for groups and buy things I need fast.

Make it 6 then.. I keep checking back here, though I left the console game last week when I realized I spent half my limited play time that day just sitting near a dolmen waiting/hoping that somebody/anybody would show up. Without a text chat I had no way to call out for help, all I could do was stand, watch and wait..
But while doing so, it occurred to me how much time I actually waste in this game doing just this, not to mention how boring it is. Id rather go to a single player game, or an mmo where I can actually interact with people, doing stuff and having fun.
If they put in text chat, or any way we can do some sort of zone communication for that matter, I'll give it another chance. But for now, my time is too limited to waste it standing around bored and wondering if another player will show up or not..

Many of the pro texters are ready to walk or qq at the first sign of something they don't like ( according to most of this thread). Why spend all of that development cash when the lions share of loyal casuals didn't even notice it wasn't there?
Personally, I want new content. Dlcs, arenas etc.

All these threats of going to the cash shop dcuo or the cutesy monthly charged snooze fest of ff online are probably having the opposite effect.

ESO is better than dcuo in terms of quality, story, writing , community etc and its not a pay to winavaganza.

Ff online charges its players by the month for the same game. Over and over. Plus ESO is at least as good and by most accounts better.

I highly disagree, DCUO is not pay to win, the story I found is good. Honestly ESO's story isn't amazing either. I maybe should of stuck with FFXIV online but bought this because it's newer, I somewhat regret it.

The lack of a good UI is dissapointing. By the looks of it the Majority of MMO vets and Hardcore players the ones YOU want to appease because they're in the game for the long haul are the ones complaining.

Text chat will do wonders, it is Needed for a better Social Experience.

Options are not a bad thing, they're treating console users like Idiots plain and simple. They've essentially dumbed down the LFG system to the likes of a Call of Duty game, but at-least in COD it works better. They took necessary tools away for a better MMO experience.

It Doesn't matter how you put it, Text Chat and Damage numbers will always provide a better experience in an MMO like this.

I honestly don't get the hostility against text, are you really comfortable with having an inferior product to the PC? Either way are you okay with paying more for less features particularly when it's $60 for less features?

How is it inferior? By all accounts this game plays better on console then it has on PC.

A game running better doesn't mean it's not missing features. The fact text chat existed in the beta test means they had to put in effort to remove it. Removing features is almost never a good idea and I will never buy ZoS's excuses for it omission, that being said I actually have no issues with in-game voice chat but the problem is that it's the only option. Text is a staple feature for a reason.

That's not true text chat wasn't in the beta I should know I was apart of it.

And yet you didn't know you could C.O.D. Items to other players. lol

Actually I did know but their still players who don't and their player who will use that to advantage and scam people. It already happened with Vamp bites.

Then don't, but other people can do this and would like this.

Give me an option so I dont' have to see all that annoying text scrolling across my screen and I'm in.

Every game that has a Chat box has the ability to hide it... This just tells me you are not a MMO gamer and only used to single player console games... Which is the problem... New people to this actually don't know whats good for them or what they are missing out on.

Or maybe you are new to console and have no idea that almost every console game that supports multiplayer does so with voice chat only.

Yeah, this guy is one hundred percent correct.

Existing player base? The Existing Player base is asking for this, the rest are casuals. The Vast majority won't reach Veteran Rank 14.

Your lack of mmo experience is once again telling. 1st things first YOU didn't notice it missing cos YOU haven't played an mmo before don't use hyperbole as evidence how did u manage to survey 99 percent of players? You are probably the biggest poster in this thread yet probably are among the least experienced . Do you know what a raid is? Here's a pro tip it's not the cops kicking your door in. Ever been in a guild when 50 are on all wanting to run stuff? Ever been in a chat with Even 10 nvm 30 people trying to speak at once about different subjects ? How is your progress now are you past 50 yet? Are you aware of what's waiting in craglorn or how ridiculously stupid it's going to be trying to get it done?

Barheiny answered you about how it'd look but seeing as your pleading ignorance I'll remind you that my old comrade symonator even went to the trouble of making a video on dcuo to post in this thread I'm sure you'll have seen it. Maybe around the mid fifties in terms of pages iirc. I've addressed you directly in this thread twice already only to be ignored I'd appreciate a response. I'm not trying to make you look silly I'm being deadly serious broaden your horizons dude . You and countless other low levels have no idea What's in-store cos mmos are new to you guys . Do you think this thread has gone on so long because it's only a minor issue.

If you love pve then raids are the absolute nuts when we'll made. I mean seriously they'll su ,ck you in , the good ones anyway.
Don't mention destiny as raids . I loved v.o.g in that game nice mechanics and such but no holy trinity make it an extended Co op level by comparison . No tank no healers etc. The problem all you new mmo players are gonna have is when you reach that level and can't even get a group together. I don't mean a puglife random setup I mean a properly formed group with a great chance of success. Raid failing sucks big time. It's the one thing I would never use group finder in any game for. I've got an officer smashed this game till vr 9 guess what now though? He's not playing cos he can't get anything done . He's waiting for us to catch up if we stick it out and we'll do it just like old times in another mmo .

I've got a guild of over 60 . I know around 12 - 20 from previously but the rest are just names on a roster cos for whatever reason they ain't using guild v.c and it's a common thing in these games. Until it's added the guild stagnates or straight up dies when we get pissed off with it . If people aren't comfortable chatting I'm not gonna try n force them. Gaming should be fun after all. This isn't just aimed at you but any mmo virgins that think text is old format for p.c only. A successful mmo needs Both text and voice chat. Ofc most PC mmo players use team speak or something similar while using text chat . It baffles me why anyone is against the OPTION? Is it a fear of being frozen out? Perhaps in the same way guys are currently being frozen out because they either can't or won't use mics for whatever reason but I'll say one thing , the guy that never mics up cos he has constant background noise but is always listening and responding In text gets my respect and I've known plenty over the years like that. I used to say only thing worse than no mic was a bad mic ( in raid/dungeon/pvp scenarios)
    Jungleim
    Stamblade extrordinaire (for now)
    Mass Terror /elders of anarchy ps4 e.u
    Daggerfalls finest

Always looking for serious pvpers not afraid to mic up. See below

It's not coming based on those statements and not being considered at this time at all.

This is incorrect, they've said multiple times that they would consider text-based communications, but that they weren't likely to make it a straight up text chat window like on PC.
It kinda comical that people in the thread attack anyone who doesn't agree or who suggest the thread is dead due to official ZOS live responses...the thread as all are here for discussion primarily.

It's about time there was some truth in what you write. This, I agree w/. There's no point in becoming discouraged or even getting hopes up. We're here to hash out the merits of the idea and ZOS is just checking out how the more vocal / forum-savvy members of their community feel about it.

In the end, it's up to them what they decide to do.
At times threads are linked when ZOS asks about different topics and concerns so MAYBE at some point in 2016 or 2017 this will be reviewed

Aw man, you were almost on a roll there, but I guess it's back to spouting baseless nonsense again. So close.
