Like battles with hundreds of players on screen at once.
The reason the Devs have said no is it would make the game crawl. To make things move realistically, you need an animation frame behind the skin, as the frame is what really moves. Each part of the frame is called a Pipe. When the devs tried to add more than 2 pipes to the frame, it caused huge lag issues. I don't remember how many pipes they need to make a decent looking frame, but it was in the double digits. Compare this to say the arm of your character, that is one pipe.
So, basically, the Capes they could give us would just look terrible, and the capes people would want, would just cause huge performance problems.

I remember City of Heroes had great capes.
Wonder how they managed those...

Because City Of Heroes had all the complexity of a couch from Ikea....

Yeah, that's kind of my point.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not pushing for capes, I don't need one, I'm just saying that a relatively simple game was able to create really good looking capes because, I think, it was simple.
I don't know anything about programming or game design but I imagine the complexity is really in the mesh and animation, but the visual beauty is largely in the texture. It doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to implement a simple cape mechanic/mesh/animation similar to City of Heroes just with more detailed textures.
I guess, to me, it sounds like the Devs are overthinking this one when there might be a simple solution right in front of them.
I could also be very wrong.

Can I ask what engine this game is made on? Do we have any info on other games made with the same engine?
