Solar Barrage: Lame morph or lamest morph ever?

From what I can see Solar Barrage turns a moderate damage single target attack into a very weak AOE. If you want a Templar ranged magicka AOE it seems that Reflective light does a lot more damage (though some is DoT) for less magicka. Reflective Light only affects 3 enemies but has good range so you can get in several shots before they get to you. The only use I can see for Solar Barrage is to face large, very weak mobs but how often does that happen?

Anyway, that's my reasoning. Anyone have a different view?

    It can't be any stronger than it currently is because the synergy it has with Blazing Shield is already crazy. Yes it's pretty weak by itself, but only a select few abilities are meant to destroy on their own.

    Use it with Impulse (if a magicka build) or Steel Tornado (if a stamina build).

    The only time I use Solar Barrage is when I'm facing a Harvester solo.
    It seems to be the only AOE a Templar has that reliably knocks out the blue balls especially at close range.

I however think that extreme hysterical Luminous Shards /Blazing Spears spamamge is all that a templar ever needs for magicka AOE dps. Especially against nerfed below goat critter dificulty mobs like harvesters.

    She was suppose to be a challenge? I threw some some sun fire at her, then finished her with some puncturing strikes. Just a speed bump really. I did not realize she was intended to be significant.

    Solar Barrage used to work differently before the standardizing of de/buffs. It gives Empower now, but before it put a debuff on all enemies hit, increasing the base Power (Weapon/Spell Damage) of the next attack that hit them. It provided a DPS synergy for tanks, as while it did not hit hard, it let the party hit harder.

    Never understood the hate for this spell, it's like being able to put Impulse on any weapon bar you want. It's spells like this that make Templar the best class for Sword and Board and Resto Staff.

    Ahh hadn't looked at it i detail since 1.6 but yeah I like the old version a lot.

    So they were nerfed?! That makes me feel so much better, lol. I ended up taking a 6 month break or so then came back and I've made like 7 new toons and all those fights were a breeze but remember having so much trouble with them on my first character. I remember Doshia and the Halls of Torment fight being so hard at launch but I also had one of the top ten worst builds ever. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, lol.

    Weird, I crushed her back in the beta days with my Nightblade. Did things change when it went live? (I didn't play after release until console)

    Can you imagine the cries for nerf, when they realise that you can do almost on every attack 20% more damage?

    I do find it a bit of a disappointing skill.
    Maybe it's because you start with such a hard hitting skill like Solar Flare (and you have Dark Flare as other optional Morph), and it gets downgraded in damage, even though it becomes AOE.

    Which made me think...
    If they were to DOUBLE the damage Solar barrage did while keeping the current cost as it is, but give it a 3rd effect which will make the skill cost 100% more magicka if used again within 1.1 seconds after the previous cast.
    (Second effect will be the 20% extra damage for the next hit.)

    The 1.1 second counter would function as a sort of casting time (as you might have noticed, its the same time it could take for Solar Flare or Dark Flare to be cast).
    Spamming it would mean that it would cost double the normal price, which would in turn mean that it would pull the same Damage = Cost ratio as it would do now (but in half the time).
    Using it situational, and with more thought behind it would make it as strong as its predecessor, and for AOE builds it would be a less brainless approach then something like Impulse.
    (Spamming it would still be an option. It would just mean that you burn through your enemy (and magicka) in half the time.)

    During late beta, Doshia was hands down one of the toughest boss mobs in the game!
    She was nerfed for launch and then again nerfed after launch.

    Now she's a joke ...

    It would be better if they changed Solar Barrage into Fast Flare: same as Dark Flare but without the healing debuff but WITH the option to instant cast (like Crystal Fragments).

    EVER!

    I was happy with the unmorphed skill, then I morphed it to Dark Flare and felt like that 1,x seconds cast time takes too long, so after a skill respec I tried Solar Barrage - the horror! What does it do anyways besides of looking interesting?
    So I respeced the morphs again and switched back to Dark Flare since it's WAAAYYY better than the other. It does take long to cast it, but the damage is pretty awesome. Use it as an opener, and half of the enemy's health is down already.
