That way the dwemer are still a mystery as you wouldn't know if the 'dwarves' were descendants or copied the style of the dwemer in their crafting
In ES universe dwarves= dwemer. There are no little bearded man on Tamriel there were only bearded elves, who were called dwarves by Skyrim giants and later man started to call them in the same name.
Maybe in some other continent there are little bearded man but there are no records saying that they have ever visited Tamriel!
Yes I know, I used the name Dwarves to explain that I was talking about the traditional type as a race to be introduced, sorry for the confusion. In Tamriel they could have a similar sounding name but be different so that would be another link to the dwemer without flat out saying they are the same, it could be coincidence that the names of the two races are so similar, the little bearded people could have found one or more of the dwemer holds and based their advancement around aspects of them, like crafting style and adopting a similar name for themselves, or they could actually be the dwemer themselves but changed like the snow elves (just into a less unfortunate form). I know not everyone would like this to happen but I have always loved traditional dwarves and they are one thing I have always missed in ES games (though I do like what they have done with the dwemer). This is just my idea of how to keep a lot of the mystery of the dwemer while still having dwarves in the game
I don't read much into Elder Scrolls Lore, but aren't Dwemers existing in this time period?

1) the end of the story culminates in the Dwemer disappearing (although the IP owners have given themselves the "out" of events/history being fluid, so the player could make a choice at the end for their individual game);
or
2) the story takes place in a time that has the Dwemer, likely the Snow Elves in their full glory as well, and the Dark Elves BEFORE their change, and you are just playing a distant past in which these races are available (thus mixing up what will become a stale race mix eventually.)
I would like eventually to have one of the ES games be in this time period and feature this; or have an extended time-hopping adventure that lets us see the world as it was in that past time

ESO already broke the lore spine a few time and it defnally does not need to shatter it with the return of the Dwarves. Also please love of Kyne don't turn this into a "want" thread like dragons.
But there is a cash shop now. They have to make money since the game is "free". I'm sure ppl want dragons..so there can be purchasable dragon mounts in the cash shop. For that matter maybe they could also add dwarf mounts in the cash shop. Think of how much money they could make with rideable dwarves!!11
I wouldn't really call paying £45 for the game and having to buy DLC zones to continue the game free exactly ...

They were elves, probably as tall as the altmer.Caligamy_ESO wrote: »So I'm confused.. were the Dwemer dwarves, or were they another form of elf? From my understanding in ES the term 'mer' is a suffix for elf. Altmer, Bosmer, Chimer, Dunmer, Falmer, etc..

I know that there was only one of them left in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, but that was like 1800 years later after the events of ESO.
Yes, they were elves. Their name translates to Deep Folk. While the did usually live underground and were great mechanics, just like typical fantasy dwarves, they were more like nihilist steampunk tech whizes and soul researchers than drunk bearded little guys with axes.Caligamy_ESO wrote: »So I'm confused.. were the Dwemer dwarves, or were they another form of elf? One of the biggest lore-breaks ZOS could pull would be this.Headberg2174 wrote: »I kind of hope we see Dwarves come to ESO. Fun fact the reason he didn't go away with the rest of them is that he was more machine than mer. Deep isn't it only way to save his humanity was to become a machine.
