Everyone I've seen seems to be assuming that we will be able to buy the DLC with Crowns. Has this actually been confirmed anywhere? Are we certain that the DLC won't be made solely available via the website, where you'd be forced to pay actual cash, and couldn't use Crowns?
If someone could provide a link to a source that definitively states that the DLC will indeed be purchasable with Crowns, I'd very much appreciate it.
They said it a long time ago it would be in crown store, but you know the way they have been in the last 8 months it wouldn't shock me if they do make it like expansions and put it up on the web site.
So yes, unless they change their minds, DLC will be purchasable with Crowns. How can I get downloadable content?
DLC will be available for purchase in the Crown Store on an a la carte basis. DLC purchased on an a la carte basis will be available to you for as long as The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is available. Members of ESO Plus will receive complimentary access to all DLC game packs for the duration of their membership.
Do I lose all items and rewards earned from DLC if my ESO Plus membership ends?
No. You will lose access to the DLC areas and quests should your membership lapse (unless you purchase the DLC separately in the Crown Store), but you will keep all items and rewards earned through the content.
Not a thread but the official page.

"While you’re a member, you’ll enjoy faster progression thanks to the helpful buffs to XP, gold, and crafting, and you’ll be able to access any DLC game pack that’s available. If your membership ends, you’ll still be able to play ESO (and keep any items and rewards you earned playing within DLC), but you won’t be able to access DLC game pack content that you haven’t purchased separately."
They have been very open about this.
You said there were tons and tons of threads about this...that isn't a thread. IMO, that is still unclear. If I'm ESO+, and DLC comes out, IMO, I HAVE paid for it.
You'd think so, but probably the reason they don't let you keep it is because they suspect a lot of folks would subscribe the month DLC hit, only to then immediately unsubscribe.

Thanks. I had never seen it explicitly stated anywhere. I'd still love to see a link to somewhere that they did say it, even though I agree with you that I wouldn't put it past them to change their minds, regardless of what they said in the past.
I'm actually pretty convinced that they are NOT going to make the DLC purchasable with Crowns, and I can't wait for the ****-storm that's going to ensue when they announce that, given how many people are currently assuming that they'll be able to spend their crowns to buy the DLC.

Sure, here are a few where it's specifically discussed that the DLC access is only while subscribed:

There are plenty more, that was just the first few that a quick search showed up that actually talked about it. I know I've brought it up personally in many different threads about ESO Plus.

So?
They'd get a huge upsurge in revenues for that month, a significant percentage of player would forget to cancel the recurring subscription, and then after a couple of months things would settle down to the "normal" levels.
All The Best
So I just figured this out today, and it's not sitting well with me, and based on responses to another thread, this is not common knowledge...or maybe it is and I just don't read notes close enough. Anyway here goes.
Did you know that, if you're an ESO+ members, and DLC comes out, you get the DLC for free, but if you ever cancel your ESO+ members, you LOSE the DLC and have to buy it?
Cause I didn't, and this could impact my decisions moving forward.
If they didn't do it that way, anyone could just sub for a month and get every piece of DLC for free in perpetuity.

A large surge in subscribers one month then 90% less subscribed next month makes the game look like its a complete waste of time to everyone else who doesn't know the people are subbing for dlc.

That makes this game look like its terrible where that is not the case. The best businesses have a steady income. Not drastic up and downs certain months.

No doubt, but my plan was to at least stay sub'd until the first DLC. then after drop my subscription if I wasn't happy with the new DLC knowing that the game was a lost cause...but could at least still play it.
Now, what the hell am I waiting for to drop my subscription? there is no reason, i'll just buy the DLC when it comes out.

Not arguing what's best for the company, arguing that there was poor communication on this.
Basically, 3/4 of the game will be f2p, and 1/4 will be b2p. That's all they had to say. Stating ESO+ members get it included is misleading.
they should have said "ESO+ members have access to DLC content. Dropping your ESO+ membership removes your access to all DLC." The way it's written now is that if you drop your ESO+, you will not have access to FUTURE DLC. Not PAST and FUTURE.
Dagoth_Rac wrote: »I HAVE paid for it.
No you have most certainly have not paid for the DLC. You have paid for 1,500 crowns and some XP/AP/Gold boosts. Want to spend those crowns on DLC? Go for it. Want to spend it on XP boosters or ice horses or wedding dresses? Go for it. Want to not spend crowns at all and just keep subscribing to ESO+? Go for it. Saying that a subscription to ESO+ pays for total ownership of DLC is like saying a subscription to Apple Music should give you total ownership of every song you stream that month. No. That is not how subscriptions work.

ESO is not f2p. f2p means the client is downloadable for free. ESO's client software is not free. So ESO is not f2p nor even 3/4 f2p.
Psychobunni wrote: »Yes. But so "many" wanted this game to be non-sub, so now you have it. Rent to play or buy it. Welcome to Tamriel Limited
No, it's not. You bought the box and now can play for free. This is B2P by definition. At no point was ESO ever F2P, not for new players, not for those of us who have been here since launch.
Whatever, pick pick pick. f2p is an option for me and everyone else that's been playing the game for quite some time.
Actually, it's a pretty perfect analogy. The way it's worded, make it sound as if, by paying a sub, you are buying the DLC.Dagoth_Rac wrote: »Saying that a subscription to ESO+ pays for total ownership of DLC is like saying a subscription to Apple Music should give you total ownership of every song you stream that month. Terrible analogy.
What are the benefits of ESO Plus membership?
ESO Plus offers members exclusive in-game bonuses, a reoccurring allotment of crowns and access to all downloadable content (DLC) game packs for the duration of membership. Certain features, such as new areas and dungeons, will be released as DLC game packs, and players can either purchase them individually or have access to all DLC game packs by becoming an ESO Plus member.
1500 crowns for use in the in-game Crown Store at the start of each membership period (Players can use crowns to purchase cosmetic and convenience items such as pets, mounts, and costumes.)
Access to all downloadable content for the duration of membership
Exclusive character progression bonuses for the duration of membership
10% bonus to experience point gain
10% bonus to crafting research
10% bonus to crafting inspiration gain
10% bonus to gold acquisition
That's pretty explicitly stated, though I will admit that it's at the very bottom of the FAQ.Do I lose all items and rewards earned from DLC if my ESO Plus membership ends?
No. You will lose access to the DLC areas and quests should your membership lapse (unless you purchase the DLC separately in the Crown Store), but you will keep all items and rewards earned through the content.
