Not only that, but the blocking feature on PS4 is wonky...

    EQUALIZE ALL PLATFORMS!
IF ONE HAS IT...ALL SHOULD HAVE IT!

I don't care what platform it is on...an MMORPG without Text Chat is NOT an MMORPG!

ill admit i dont play all that much, but during launch week i was basically on all day. And granted there was some people who played with their mics, but i wouldnt really warrant it as bad as people make it out to be. some people throw party eg play music and dance. i guess people have to ruin other peoples fun. if its that bad why not mute or have a party chat with just your friends?

Every night is open mic night on console.

That kind of defeats the purpose of an open chat. The point there is to be able to communicate with other people in the world you don't already know, or to seek help or have your help sought or the like.

However, as is, by your admission there, it is a completely defeated purpose. Just mute or go into a party chat with your friends.

I don't care what random people do with their mics myself because I long since abandoned area chat in its entirety. I assure you that the horrific experiences people describe are just one wrong turn away at essentially all times. Most of them would've been solved with at the least a push-to-talk button.

I almost never use game chat. I have a few friends i play with and we use ps4 voice, the quality is 10 times better anyways.

I have used it the couple times i suffered through a pug dungeon group. But since hitting vr and getting numerous people queuing as all 3 roles for a vet dungeon and not being able to do any of them I decided to not use group finder anymore.

Obligatory comment about PC master race. Shouldn't have got ESO for console is all I can say. You should have known what you would be in for given the average age of console players.

Please refer to the OP on the page. It's not kids doing this or kids are smoking way earlier, getting married, and beating their dogs at a disturbingly young age. However when I message them that hey just cauz ur wife is mad at you doesn't give her the right to take it out on all of us and for them to check their mic settings, they do act like kids

Leave Area Chat and Join Guild Chat. I believe it drops you back in Area Chat when you fast travel, but leaving is only a few button presses away. I never stay in Area Chat.

the problem with that is a lot of guild chats are no better !!

i cant for the life of me work out why they didn't make all voip push to talk by default

The only thing that really bothers me are all the screaming kids. Those open mics have convinced me that there are a LOT of awful parents with PS4's.

Hey, how about you put down the controller and figure out what's going on with your damn kids, Mr. Parent of the Year?

This is my OP in another thread. I will post it here because this thread seems to be getting more attention.

    Original post: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/188251/xbox-one-how-to-turn-off-the-kinect-microphone-and-make-eso-better-for-everyone#latest

If you have a Kinect, please follow these steps to make this game more enjoyable for everyone.

    1. Go to Settings. To do this, press the Menu button on your controller, or say, "Xbox, go to Settings."
    2. Select Kinect.
    3. Uncheck 'Use Kinect microphone for chat.'

If you are using a headset, please mute the headset when you are not using it.

This way your living room will not be in my living room and the living rooms of dozens of other players. Many people have complained that there is no way to not auto-join voice channels such as Area chat, this will hopefully make this lapse in judgement more bearable for the time being.

For anyone that follows these instructions I thank you sincerely, as do many others.

You have something against the 30 to 40 demographic? Because a quick google shows that as the predominant age range for all gaming, even consoles.

Please. Not google. Anything but google. I wasn't prepared for that!

Next you're going to tell me that violence caused by video games is widely over-exaggerated and I just can't handle that.

I'm 36 and I play on console with a bunch of guys my age. Honestly I have to agree that the average age of console players is lower than PC gamers but I don't think ESO is the game they're all whining for their parents to buy them.

So far my experience has been largely positive...

But yes, area chat should be off by default.

When I can't hear my NPC quest giver because of someone playing Justin Beiber over voice chat there is a flaw in the system. It "Breaks my immersion"

Edit- Let's break the system. Everyone play terrible music 100% of the time until something is done

Today people have no consideration for others. You'll just have to turn off public chat to save your ears from noise. I really hope they include a mute option someday.
