Why dye stations?

Couldn't we have had a dye tub and either keep it on our person or store it?

Yes, we could have, but they gave us this instead. At least when you unlock a dye, it's unlocked on all of your characters, and it is free to dye at any time.

I don't mind it too much. It adds to the regular things my character gets to do when they go back into a city after exploring. Craft, play around with inventory, dye anything new (or try out a new color scheme). It's also fun when I see others who have gathered around to do the same, because I get to take a sneak peak at what colors they choose after dyeing.

Why alchemy stations? Why not just have a cauldron that you carry around?

Why cooking fires? Why not just have a tinder box and iron pot that you carry around?

Why clothing stations? Why not just have a needle, thread, and shears that you carry around?

Why enchanting stations? Why not just have an etching kit that you carry around?

Why woodworking stations? Why not just have a saw and some knives that you carry around?

Why blacksmithing stations? Why not just have a portable forge that you carry around?

Ya, I guess. Just kinda like the way with a dye in your pack. You could still have it the exact same way, where different acheivments unlock colors, just the dye tub would be in your pack... not buying different dyes. I guess after a year of playing I'll be able to remember where all the stations are.

Did not realize looking at the map and seeing the dye station icon was hard lol O_O

It's not difficult knowing where they are. When you use your map, you can roll over the icons to double check where it's located. Very easy to find out, and no memorizing is involved (although you'll naturally remember over time if you use it enough, of course).

Dye stations are almost always found next to, or very near, the alchemy stations. The only exception I can think of is Davon's Watch, which for some reason has no dye station at all (go back to Bal Foyen).

What is up with the immature responses on these boards? This game doesn't consume my life, I don't know the ends and outs of every aspect. I didn't even know there was a marker for where dye stations were. This is probably the 10th time I've gotten responses like this on this board and I see it all the time. Is it really your guys' jobs to point out a question you deem "stupid"? I play a few hours a day... I had no idea the community would be filled with this. The last mmorpg I was into a lot was Ultima Onine some 16 years ago, and used to ask questions in the beginning of that and recieve a lot of help in figuring things out. Next time you go to respond to a "stupid" question, maybe ask yourselves, "does it really matter"?

ok, honestly does it really matter there are dye stations? Why does it matter you do not have a tub to carry around? Dye stations are easy to get to and align with the overall crafting concept use of other stations.

Is it possible to put someone on the ignore list? I'm 33, my idea of fun is helping people and getting along with them. Not hassling someone with a question. What a weird thing, in how people are so much more comfortable online to act childish than in person where you're actually accountable for your actions. I deal with enough of this in the military...

Is there an ignore list on this forum?

Wow... I'm speechless. Maybe a moderator will come in here and clean this thread up. Someone posts a picture of kleenex.
You all know you're part of a community, right? And this is how you chose to interact with people who just wanna start a discussion about the benefits of either having one in your pack, or using a dye station. I've gotten like 3 real answers, about 5 sarcastic/antagonist responses. Really tells me the age group here. Luckily I play on the EU server so I don't run in to this in game, otherwise I'd stop playing. I play video games to escape real life troubles, not bring them in to the gaming world. Amazing.

Okay, I'm sorry. You could of put the same tissue box on all my posts around console launch. I cried on here for 3 days. Honestly though, people are just joking around. I would rather be with a community that laughed together than be all serious. There are a lot of post on here that get serious answers, but others like this one that people joke about. No one is trolling, they are just having a good laugh. If you had a real issue, and not something petty, then you would of gotten more reasonable responses. Anyways, Fartman, I do apologize.

To get back on topic, I like the dye stations the way they are. Inventory space is already packed, I would hate to have to carry something else like this around or bank it and use up space.

You don't have to pay for dyes - they are awarded for achievements associated with gameplay. Having been here before and after dying was added, I think it was added in a way that fits well with the other similar aspects of the game. There are still complaints that weapons, shields, and costumes can't be dyed, but we are all still hoping that will come to pass...

Those were done in Oblivion... Alchemy had four apparati that you had to have in your inventory to do alchemy. Each one conferred a different bonus to your potions. Mortar and Pestle, Retort, Calcinator, and Alembic are the apparati. Blacksmithing, called Armorer back then, involved Repair Hammers you kept and used in your inventory. They would have a random chance of breaking after use, determined by your skill and immediate surroundings. Being near a flame increased the durability restored per use and being near an anvil decreased the likelihood of breaking a hammer.

While I'm at it, when you held a torch near a lock in Oblivion, the tumblers moved more easily and were less prone to snapping your lockpick in half.

Learned all that by reading books on their respective subjects.

Here's the deal, when you joke around in real life you can hear someone's tone, you usually know the person, and see their voice inflections to tell when they are joking. Seeing people's responses on here are immature at best, not funny at all. I'm trying to have a conversation about dye's, if it doesn't interest you, move on. What is the point of posting a tissue box? Seriously? To make you laugh? Because I'm not. I'm trying to have just 1 conversation on here without people jumping in to a conversation they have no interest in and being sarcastic, rude and just generally not fun. If I posted a tissue box on your thread you'd just laugh it off eh? Now be honest with yourself. This isn't a make or break issue, you know when people bring up topics on a GENERAL DISCUSSION board, it's usually so they can DISCUSS the topic, not hear a bunch of rude replies. Sarcasm and joking generally do not work on the internet as per the reasons I stated above. I got 2 responses on here relating to the subject. And the person stuck on my name... Did you grow up in the 90s? And how does that relate to this discussion about dye tubs and stations again? I'll guarantee this same thing happens next time i start a thread. It is just SO fun!

@Fartman I am personally a huge fan of Dhalmora in Bal Foyen. I park alts there, and run back in forth there to do gear swaps/crafting as needed because it's all inside one building (dye station too)

Ofc, it won't help a new player to AD or DC, but its still a lovely little place
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!
