Yes. Easy if you want to be a thief. Not gonna do it. I am not a thief. I've played RPG's for almost 20 years now and NEVER played a thief. Never. It's just me.I still can't figure out how people are saying, "Early on, gold is hard to come by" when in fact, it is NOT... IF you put effort into earning it. The problem is, most players don't want to spend time in the game outside of questing, so they won't farm mats to sell at Guild Traders and thereby make tons of gold.
Covered that by stating, "Early in the game (Levels 1 through 30), gold seems to be scarce, unless you're an accomplished guild trader."
It's dead simple, if they can be bothered to try
LIke i said, steal, launder, sell rest to fence
sell laundered goods on a guild store, not hard to do
Log out/in .. do again
Rinse & repeat, not best fun in the world but you make enough to keep yourself in bag/bank space etc easy
Illegal activities are a choice, not an obligation.
I'll just have to settle for being poor.
Making gold in this game is a choice. You can choose to be poor or you can choose to use the advice that many people have provided for you here in which case you'll be fine. Your running around doing quests so you might as well gather resources while your there. Pick up everything and sell it. You seriously won't be poor, unless your just lazy.......
Sheesh guys. Maybe I'll just settle for being poor and not being able to carry anything. It seems like so much work to be rich! That's so unAmerican! At least, once I build this one up, my alt will be a legacy and start off with lotsa mula and stuff.
I will tell you that my first two characters were broke. Not broke in that they could not afford the basics, but none of the good stuff. They were deconning every thing, learning traits and spending skill points on crafting, building up the bank and personal bag space and leveling a horse. They never had much money, I think I amassed about 20K after all was said and done and they became proficient crafters (max level, 6 traits known at the time, now they know 8 going on 9).
However the two characters that came after? They were rolling in the dough as all they had to was vendor stuff. My crafters made them gear that made them deadly. I mean, you put a set of Blues on a L4, nothing in the game is going to stay alive at that level.
So, think of your first character or two as the parents who immigrated to this country, worked hard, skimped and saved so their children could go to college and get a good paying job. Then think of your second, third and so on characters as the children who benifit from parents hard work.
One thing in this game you need to realize is the first 50 levels, you don't need to buy much. You can survive, and survive well, on just random drops. You don't need to buy equipment much at all. If repair costs are getting you down, save spare sets. But even if you're not finding much, you only need about 1500g every 3 levels to buy green BoE.
Beyond spending, the best thing to do is just harvest all nodes you see. Right now, fishing lures are a hot item to sell for each gold. Even undercutting most sellers, you can make about 10g a lure. If you have the patience for it, fish for perfect roe while the market is still there. Some people claim a 100:1 rate, but I'm seeing about a 200:1. Them the breaks about a RNG.
And don't be mislead with people saying millions of gold can be earned later on. If you're a casual player, you can expect to make millions. I've been playing since launch and only recently got 1 character to VR14. In that time, I've probably made about 3 million gold. I've maxed my bag, maxed my bank, and I have 3 Ravanger pieces I bought (2 bands and a pendant). I'm sitting on about 500k and I feel that's a safe number at end game. I make about 100k a week usually, but the glyph market has dried up, and that's where I tend to make my gold.
Is it slowly than a lot of games? Sure. But it's 100% feasible to earn enough gold to get what you want if you take the time to do it.
Perhaps it is just me, but I actually ENJOY farming.

So, I am one of those who support the farmers by buying the mats you sell.
