Why was RP completely blacklisted on consoles?

Between having no text chat and using gamertags as display names at all times there is exactly zero immersion on consoles. (I like how I still need a unique character id even though it's never used.) I'm curious as to why avoiding immersion and RP seems to be a bullet point on one version of the game when "immersion" was hammered in at every chance for the first version.

Different target audience? Changing directions? Should the pc players who enjoy immersion and rp worry?

I wouldn't take it as a personal slight to that particular group of people. I would be more willing to be they just couldn't figure out a workable solution and they were already delayed by a year for console release.

Just look at how the game released on PC and how it stands now. A lot of the quality of life stuff got added down the line and I would be willing to be they're looking into these things as well.

    .

I find it very hard to believe that a company associated with Bethesda can not program a workable text chat when Perfect World and Cryptic was able to on console.

Sorry, but if that is what we have here I for one am going to cry now.
Anything useful that players are wanting added into the game all fall under the category of "Yer ruinin my 'mersion!" Sallington

Text chat will be patched in once they find a way to make it workable for consoles. Considering all the backlash they basically have to.

Given the history of ZOS so far, I don't find that hard to believe at all. They seem to be short on skilled developers for what they are trying to accomplish on several platforms at once, they were probably rushed for time and short on funds for the console release, and they have demonstrably failed at several other programming tasks for the game in the past. Their job is difficult, but I think they overestimated their capacity and bit off more than they can chew. Some balls are clearly being dropped along the way, but hopefully they will pick them up further down the road.

the game rocket league has text chat on ps4. it's not even an MMO, it's basically a sports game.

DC universe, the most minor of MMOs out there has text chat on ps3 and ps4.

there is literally no reason NOT to have text chat atm.

I don't want this to be another thread about just the lack of text. It's a basic function and a decision was made to not have it. The pc version also puts your character name forward to the public while the console version uses only gamertags. Another conscious decision. Both make eso feel less like an RPGmmo in my opinion, and completely destroy immersion.

I'm just asking if it's going to be a trend.

This game won't last without text chat. Simple as that. A game like this NEEDS it to have longetevity.

dc universe is about as mmo as god of war or devil may cry but without the depth of either game, which ain't saying much.

dunno why they chose to not implement chat. could be something MS and Sony asked? without an official word all we can do is speculate.

if it is really that big of a hardship, play the pc version.

I genuinely feel they ran out of money , time , and someone higher up said this thing is shipping X date , end of story.

Cutting text chat , cutting out remapping of buttons , just using in place gamer tags etc were all less things that they had to make sure worked right , and less things they have to manage in patches as time goes forward.

It just feels like they decided to go the cheaper and easier route on many things on the console side.

I also agree it really makes the console side feel much less rp like with the gamer tags instead of character names.

Their excuse implying Microsoft was to blame doesn't hold water because Neverwinter and other games use character names.

dont see how txt chat is any less immersion breaking for rp. surely its more realistic to have characters actually talking to each other rather than communicating via a magic window they can all see instead.

You know its not hard to RP on consoles just try .Am apart of a RPing Guild on Xbox 1 We are called the Goldmane Roar and I came across a few other while PVPing,Tuesday a player was RP as a Khajiit Mercenary who left the AD because of how High Elfs treated him and his people. Also she aid the only way he will help us defend Glademist is if we give him 1,000 Gold.He would later on explain to us how his Guild works and that his entire guild is a Guild of Mercs and they will fight for the highest Bidder.

So It's not impossible to RP without Text Chat its different and sometimes harder but not impossible its pretty funny Hearing people try to talk like a Khajiit.

Why this insistence that RPing can only be done via text? Of all the arguments for text on consoles, this is one of the weakest.

Rp is better in voice chat.
I saw a group of black cultists worshiping a guy in a chair. They had backstory and kind of a plot. It was weird like community theatre but with the emotes and actual voices it was kinda cool.

I think text chat will eventually come so relax.
You can try to fit your 'I place the weird meat on my head's in between hacky sales pitches in no time.

The consoles are basically running windows Operating system so don't know why they just didn't add voice recognition software from windows to just speak and type to the chat window as an option at least. Seems like kind an obvious add needed to communicate without keyboards.

Yes, you can rp over voice...If you don't mind everyone in the house hearing your one sided rp, can come up with responses on the fly in realtime, and enjoy acting more than creating a story. They're about as similar as tabletop gaming and LARPing.

I don't know why there's hate for people wanting the same game on multiple platforms to actually BE THE SAME GAME. It's like that's some foreign concept worthy of scorn. If the path will continue to diverge, I'd like to know. If the pc version might inherit this mood for future changes, I'd also like to know. I own both, but my time is worth something and I'm not likely to be active in both games.

You'd think so.....until you are RP'ing and see a lovely, lithe, little female elf and walk up to her and strike up a conversation and there's the voice of a 30 year old neckbeard on the other end.

Some of us play toons that are not the species or sex (or both) that we are in real life. And we don't want to sound stupid in a vocal RP where our voice clearly does not match our toon . Of course the reason the poster mentioned above, is another good reason.

well, people should stop trying to get virtual dates in a MMO.
