I wouldn't take it as a personal slight to that particular group of people. I would be more willing to be they just couldn't figure out a workable solution and they were already delayed by a year for console release.
.
Given the history of ZOS so far, I don't find that hard to believe at all. They seem to be short on skilled developers for what they are trying to accomplish on several platforms at once, they were probably rushed for time and short on funds for the console release, and they have demonstrably failed at several other programming tasks for the game in the past. Their job is difficult, but I think they overestimated their capacity and bit off more than they can chew. Some balls are clearly being dropped along the way, but hopefully they will pick them up further down the road.Funkopotamus wrote: »I find it very hard to believe that a company associated with Bethesda can not program a workable text chat when Perfect World and Cryptic was able to on console.
the game rocket league has text chat on ps4. it's not even an MMO, it's basically a sports game.
DC universe, the most minor of MMOs out there has text chat on ps3 and ps4.
there is literally no reason NOT to have text chat atm.
I don't want this to be another thread about just the lack of text. It's a basic function and a decision was made to not have it. The pc version also puts your character name forward to the public while the console version uses only gamertags. Another conscious decision. Both make eso feel less like an RPGmmo in my opinion, and completely destroy immersion.
I'm just asking if it's going to be a trend.
Why this insistence that RPing can only be done via text? Of all the arguments for text on consoles, this is one of the weakest.
Wouldn't RP be better with voice chat?

The consoles are basically running windows Operating system so don't know why they just didn't add voice recognition software from windows to just speak and type to the chat window as an option at least. Seems like kind an obvious add needed to communicate without keyboards.
