The console community interaction is amazingly dead

I know voice chat as is, is terrible but I don't see how people think that text chat is the solution. Have you ever tried to type a message using the controller and on screen keyboard? Imagine trying to have a conversation that way in game....no thanks.

They need to improve upon the voice chat and make it push to talk as well as tweak the setup.

lol I've had several conversations that way in game. It's really not all that hard plus there are countless keyboards you can use on your console. Before I bought my mini bluetooth keyboard I just used my computer keyboard. Either way that's beside the point. No one is saying the only way to have a conversation needs to be done via text or that there CAN BE ONLY ONE method of communication.

Text chat is a great way to open a conversation, find others to have a on mic conversation with or just quick one line posts open to everybody and not just those 20 feet around you.

I really don't understand the backlash or negative opinions about having text chat. Just like the PC version, have an option to close it if you don't want it. Kinda like what we have now with voice options. Having more options is never a negative. Why people feel the need to argue the point of having it or not is mind bottling to me. The option should just be there.

    I guess I don't have a grip on this whole MMO/social thing.

I get plenty of invitations to join groups, but I'm afraid of what these people are like. There are so many people that just seem to be out there to kill (or hump my female characters for hours).

I did join a group over the weekend, and went about my business and I lost them. I have no idea where they even went!

Am I supposed to follow them?

I'm not comfortable with headphones and a mic on. As a matter of fact, I don't want to talk to you or even to text you, but I'm happy to join your group and kick a** for you and get you experience, but I really, really don't want to talk, text or interact with you.

    Am I a horrible person?
  • FoolWitDaSnoW
Most people, All of my friends on PS4 stay in a party chat because the IN game chat sounds horrible, plus people playing music and being loud etc. So it's not that people with friends arent talking, It is hard to make new ones with this current system tho, text chat is a must , the game is great but no text chat is laughable.

Area, world, guild and PM's and we would be good, I think the game will be around for a while either way but jesus would it be nice.

Sorry if this has been posted on here already but I just read this from the ZoS AMA on reddit and thought it was quite funny

"Text chat wasn’t added to the consoles because of a number of factors. First, many of our early tests demonstrated what we already knew: it can be cumbersome to type in a text chat with a controller, especially when time counts. This is why we decided to make sure VOIP was integrated into the game from the beginning and why we added our quick chat feature. Second, displaying text for an environment such as couch and TV requires larger fonts. Having small, almost unreadable text is very problematic. A chat window, typical on a PC, just doesn’t translate as well to a living room environment. Having a chat window that was useful, as in legible, meant it was so big it was covering up lots of other elements. These and a few other factors meant we concentrated more on VOIP and Quick Chat. They were the most reliable and best means of communication in the living room environment. "

Seriously? That's their reasoning? Cumbersome to type in text chat with a controller? They are a MMO developer and they've never heard of Bluetooth or Wireless keyboards? The best part is when he talks about the "couch environment". Games like DCUO and FFXIV seem to have no problem with it.

" best means of communication in the living room environment" :/

I'm not trying to be a jerk here or call ZoS out. I think they've made an awesome and special game but I'm sorry none of his points in that post make ANY sense what-so-ever and come off as rather disingenuous. He does say that it is possible we could have text chat but it's likely it won't be a "straight chat window". Why? Why can't it just be a straight up chat window? It's not a crazy concept, a simple chat window, one we can maximize to full screen if we needed or flat out close when we don't. Why over complicate it? Why try to re-invent the wheel? This has proven to work in other games.

Yeah, that quote has been thrown around quite a bit. Cumbersome to type in a text chat box with a controller... lol.

I find that sort of funny because you can stream your PS4 gameplay to Twitch and there is an option to see the Twitch chat on the right side of your TV screen... and it's really not an issue at all, either reading the text or seeing the game you're playing. *shrugs*

That seems to be adapted perfectly fine for the "couch environment".

You don't see what my argument is? Then re read my statement. You can't compare halo to rpg fans and then apply it to all console gamers, wich you did. Most on console are rpg fans and want that tight knit community but cannot get it through voice chat thus far. I don't care how many maps you created or what you've achieved it dosnt change the fact that you made ignorant statements saying console gamers were mostly druggies or kids and that console gamers are incapable of having tight communities. My argument is plain as day if you can read, all console gamers are not halo or sports fanatics, we have a huge rpg fan base that wants adventure with others and immersion

I'd quit while your ahead. He clearly knows what he is talking about, and has the experience to back it up... on both platforms.

p.s it's laughable that you think that most playing ESO on a console are rpg fans. I'd wager while SOME are, for the vast majority a) ESO is their first mmo, and b) Skyrim was their first RPG. Nothing wrong with that either, it's just funny you think that crowd thirsts for a tight knit RPG community... one they have never experienced.

Then please enlightened me why every pvp campaign is almost dead on pc while pvp is pop locked on console? Also why many groups have stop raiding since 1.6 on pc? Just saying pc is dead by what I am currently experiencing and I know what I am talking about.
