I kinda hope this game turns out like Destiny where all the complainers left and all the players who liked the game stayed and the Devs didn't Ruin it for the Majority who actual are playing it and enjoying it.Destiny doing Great right now I still remember when People said it would Die in a few months if they didn't add so and so and the game have about 20 million active players I believe the Devs said at E3 I could be wrong but am pretty sure it was more then 10 million.So if ESO can have Half the success Destiny had I'll be happy.So all the players who said their leaving Goodbye have a good life and I will continue loving the Game as it is.

If text chat would ruin a game for you, maybe it isn't the game for you?

The "complainers" left because they were tired of having to use external means to organize for raids, but also because it has the most incredibly weak gear progression imaginable.

New expansion came out? All your gear is now crap. Refarm the exact same gear with slightly better stats or go farm items to upgrade the exact same gear to have those slightly better stats in the raids that all the elitists kick you out of if you don't have raid gear already. Which you have to raid to get.

Anyway, I suppose if you just want to keep the game to yourself and not let anyone else enjoy it any way but the way you enjoy it, that's your bag. You can take your ball and go home.

How would adding text chat ruin the game for anybody? Are you serious?? smh. Like I said before, people asking for this enjoy playing the game. So your comment makes no sense.

Voice Chat = Flint

Yeah...they both can start a fire, but if you want the BEST OPTION...use the frelling MATCHES!

And, for the less attentive... Matches = Text Chat

im in 5 guilds and find myself constantly having to leave the voice channels because other people either love the sound of there own voice so much or have far to much background noise..the game has become almost a solo experience for me in the last 2 weeks, which is really not what i was expecting.

the lack of push to talk just makes it even worse ..i cant really ever remember hearing people sneezing/burping/clearing there throats etc over voice when i was a PC player.
even during my years on PC using vent/mumble/TS etc i would join the server for group runs ...and then leave

options are what is needed, forcing us to use 1 badly implemented system is just a bad decision

Heh - I almost changed it to a lighter after writing it but didn't think you'd bother. At least you can read & comprehend, which is more than most ppl posting. So thanks for that.

So to continue the theme, you'll find that the matches you receive are finite & all wet. So when it comes down to it, flint is better. You don't get pc matches, you get the crappy paper console matches which are always less robust.

This is what I see happening with my friends too.
The ones that bought it looking for a co-op game are playing ESO.
The ones that expected it to be an MMO (Like it is on PC) have left already due to not having a simple basic function.
Which really sucks for me...I like the game and wanted all my fiends to play it with me.
Oh wucking fell.

They will keep (SOME OF) their console customers, but lose (ALL) their MMO customers.

It would be nice to have a text chat within the game. I'm not sure if adding a text chat is possible or if it would slow things down for the console versions but it is a nice thought

I have noticed that there are simple preloaded text in the emotions section (...somewhere...) which are helpful at times (I have them quick saved at the moment and can't recall where they are exactly).

This guy is awesome. Playing the disability card is a weak way for gold farmers and used car salesmen to try to argue for tacky text chat. Shy people are engaging all over the PS 4 console voice chat and its really awesome.
Text chat is needed by the PC transfer guilds to wrench any possibility of newer console guilds gaining control.
They could care less about people who might need it, they just want to overcharge shy people for purple items.

What? No offense, but I couldn't care less about disadvantaging Joe New Player on PS4.

I'm arguing from the standpoint that it would be better overall for the game and help its systems to mesh more fully together once again instead of the bandaid fix that VOIP feels like.

Now, if you have an issue w/ the option of having a text box or something that you can minimize easily, I'd love to hear what that actual issue is.

Because you didn't really bring anything to the table but a bunch of whiny namecalling and that's not really a discussion at all.

"OMG, you guys are all jerks / ignorant / whatever else" doesn't help anything whatsoever, on either side of this debate.

Bring points, solid points, about what you feel the pros and cons of adding an optional text chat would be, and we can discuss those. The rest is just a bunch of noise.

I've come across several reasons to add text chat such as inability to communicate effectively when multiple players are near by and complete inability to communicate with non-team and non-guild members in the game. Also, constant background noise from TV,babies, dogs and bodily functions.

I haven't seen an actual reason to not have text chat. The only responses I've seen against it are "go play pc, we don't need text"

But why not?? It doesn't have to replace voice if that's what you prefer, especially not in groups.

Even as just an option, it needs to exist in game. I was on a team yesterday and while talking to my teammate (the one team I've managed to join with a stranger in this game,because of communication) i walked near a group of people who were trying to become vampires and l lost all ability to understand my teammate until i mounted up and sprinted out of voice range, away from my objective.

My favorite part is how every other time I play voice chat is down. And then when it is on all I hear is background noise, eso music from people with high volume, and random music through mics. Oh, and since so many turn it off because it's terrible, when I actually need it in pugs to explain things no one has it on. I have to send text messages through xbox gamercards.

I don't understand why anyone argues against having reliable communication, or easy socializing in an mmo.

I 100% Agree with this, especially the part about no actual reason not to have text chat. More options for the player can never be a negative and it's only a positive.

I turn off voice chat pretty much automatically. Some people are so loud and annoying. Please add text chat, at least text chat in the cities. I would like to be able to sell/buy items through chat. I'm in a couple of trade guilds but text chat is more effective at buying/selling certain items or services.

I honestly don't understand how people can even have voice chat on in this game. My experience with it has been 100% useless and annoying. If it isn't game sounds, level up dings, soundtrack echos, or NPC chatter that I'm hearing through someone's mic, it's crap music (that they seem to think is so super awesome that everyone else should hear it too), family conversations or coughs and wheezing. And that's just when it's intelligible. The majority of "voice chat" I'm hearing is unintelligible noise, static, clicks, beeps. And presumably everyone is using some cheap mic so that, even when I can hear a voice of some kind in amongst the random noise, it sounds like it's either in a tin box or it's at a window-rattling volume so that I jump out of my skin and have to rush to turn it off before I get a nosebleed. I've turned it off and have no intention of turning it on again unless it's a small group.

There's no way any sane and sensible person can enjoy the "voice chat" I'm currently hearing. Does it get less useless and less annoying in the higher level areas? Because that's the only way I could understand why people are arguing against text chat.

Up to Eastmarch currently in Ebonheart, the 4th major zone. The situation is unchanged from anywhere else, it's just less frequent and less laggy. But when I forget to turn off the voice chat I'm either met with nothing but silence or cacophonous noise pollution with almost no in-between.

I've really gotten into this game, but my boyfriend and I agree that it needs text chat.
I like communicating and making new friends in my MMO's but I just feel incredibly awkward talking on mic to total strangers for the first time.
I've somehow made a few buddies in the game mostly due to spamming emotes with each other, but none of us really like voice chat so that leaves us PSN messaging to chat with, please please add it. Then this game will be perfect.

I'd say encourage them to come on here and express their opinion on the subject as well. The more unique voices the better.

This is just rediculous. It's a great game, but I spend each evening astonished at how much our enjoyment of the game is affected by the absense of a simple text chat feature.

Normal running around the game world is PAINFUL without disabling voice chat.

I play a healer and if my friends or guild aren't around I use the group finder, when this feature actually works.. (often popping me in a group of 3 and never finding a fourth!) I jump in the group voice chat and most of the time, I'm lucky if one responds.

Even in full groups, my ears are blasted with all kinds of inappropriate noises because there's no push to talk function.

This is a problem even in the most respectful and considerate guilds. I could stand that if it were only for the duration of a dungeon etc, but it's incredibly annoying to have no other way to communicate.

I used to sit in voice chat all the time in other games, no problem. Because text chat could be utilized for guild announcements, interacting in area chat, private messages and mundane tasks - If text chat were in this game, I could choose to sit in area voice chat while doing these things too, if not already grouped.

Voice chat is so much fun when used appropriately. But remove text chat, force us to process every communication through voice chat and it is just plain irritating.

Give us text chat and it'll vastly improve the quality of voice communication in the game, instead of just alienating players and making this game play like a rather boring solo rpg. Because while I love playing the game with friends, your voice chat only stance is making that difficult and annoying, when it should be enjoyable.

I'm leaving this thread. How Zenimax allows the same couple of people to Troll and Troll is beyond me.

I'm happy for others to have a different opinion to me and disagree, but having a different opinion and trolling are two completely separate things.

Anyway, if they ever add text, I'll play the console version properly, but for now, I'll use my PC for the TESO mmo and occasionally the PS4 when I feel like a bit of laid back ESO solo play.
