Sounds like a non issue to me.

Nope, it provides a relative sample of the game population, and in a large enough quantity that it would be enough for polling. The simple fact is that the overwhelming majority of people who have expressed an opinion on the subject are in favor of console players having the option of text chat.

It is only a tiny fringe that opposes it like you do.

Do you even play on the console side, or are you one of those "PC Master Race" fellows that are bitter that the game was even released to console? Your posting history clearly shows that at least in the past you played on PC, and your statements about voice chat give the impression that you have never experienced what it is actually like on the consoles.

Tre775. Don't know how to quote you but you quoted me. Want to know the difference between my finding a group with voice and tour post in finding a group with text?

With text I can easily ignore the people trolling. Also the words they type will be there for me to pull up and use an hour later. With voice you would have to ask to repeat it. If asking in a zone, you would need his name to add him, or a general location to meet. With text, the name is right there. Even the spelling. You nay even be able to click it and just access the player right where you are. No repeating. No asking for spelling.

Obviously once I found a group and entered a dungeon, I would switch to party chat. Not game chat which seems to have bad feedback sometimes, but party chat. Why would I try to type in the middle of combat? I doubt of players do that and they have keyboards.

As I have said and many have said. Ill repeat again. One is a window tour eyes can look away from. But I cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, turn my ears away from the loud noises trolls play into their MIC.

Additionally, it is much easier to preserve evidence of someone violating the ToS in text chat than in voice. With text chat, it stays there for a while and all that you would need to do is take a screenshot -- just using the 'Share' button on the PS4 can take a screenshot.

Voice abuse, on the other hand, would require that you were making a video recording of it before and during the abuse.

This is part of the reason why I think that some people are so strongly against text chat being an option, they like it better when everyone is forced to be subjected to their abuse and it is much more difficult to prove that they abused other players.

For the record I'm for text chat. I also see through the hyperbole and realize that's it's not the panacea some people make it out to be. I'm glad that I found a good couple of guilds to run with. It took some effort, but was definitely worth it.

I have to ask: is this the case on PC?

I don't think it is. My own experiences, which may not be hugely representative but were mostly leading up to console release, so very recently, and II never saw one spammer although there was some pointless debate in zone chat it was never as poorly composed as that group example.

So far as the group example goes, I'm pretty sure that's one place that most people are going to go voice chat or bust, but the content is apt to be exactly the same in voice chat.

I realize you're trying to illustrate something but they're unrealistic examples at least based on known player behavior on the PC version. The anti-spam system is pretty effective.

Additionally, they aren't particularly li8kely to be spamming in your guild chat, which is a place that the text chat is arguably more important than even zone in some circumstances.

Hey do any of you realized by turning off your mics you are part of the problem right. If people use Area chat and they see no one using it what reason do they have to use it if they hear nothing but trolls.By not using it we all lose.People will leave since like you all said their no community to keep them playing. Text chat won't save this game and build a strong enough community to save it If you turn on you mics and show the trolls this is unacceptable they will leave.Yesterday this kid was trolling in Daggerfall at the blacksmithing station.A few players told him to stop before we tell his mom and he stopped. If we combat the trolling and build a community with voice chat if they add text chat (which I say they shouldn't) Their will already be a strong community their for all of us the voice chat community and the text chat community. So all I can ask is can we all turn our mics back on and try to keep this game going show people that not everyone is a troll on the X1 and PS4.

If we don't we let the trolls win and this game will die. if you love the Elder Scrolls series and if you love this game do not allow the trolls to win and make sure the mature player base can help make this game the best it can be.

It's the economy that is suffering aswell.
Not being able just say in text that you are selling 100 provisioning mats for 70 gold is just bizaree.
Or that you want to buy something...that you can't seem to aquire yourself.

The trade guilds are okay, but it's only 500 members which some of them aren't buying or selling.
Look at the trade guilders in wayrest for example (EU), people have claimed them and sell nothing on them.... or if they are it's white iron girdle..which no-one needs.

Cyrodill keeps that are owned are by guilds, seem to sell nothing either.

On top of this, the group finder is not working as intended, so LFG would work lovely for getting groups, why it's been left out is just something i cannot understand at this point.

"Need healer for daily" - says more than any voice chat. I'm sorry but the healer who is also looking for a group can't hear you in a different phase across the zone somewhere else.

    Fix it please....

Text chat is seriously needed, can't believe zenimax even thought leaving it out on console was exceptable, I'm loving this game but end up having to mute the chat so often because I've either got someone's TV or there coughing and spluttering or people talking in there native language. Voice chat is fine for group dungeons etc, but please give us normal text chat for everything else.

They might be happily waiting for shiny new content, assassin missions and a bear to ride but little do they know trading ten angry people on the forum are trying to make zos waste their resources and time on that purple sales text scrawl and troll enabler.

Boy would they be pissed if they weren't having the time of their lives playing the game as is. They would probably use voice chat to tell all of the nearby players that ten butt hurt keyboard jockeys took away their bear mounts.

Anyways the forums already exist. Use them to bother people with your sales pitches and troll fights.
It scares me that zos might make decisions based on some of these butthurt complainers angry posts.

I want text chat, but I spent $60 on this game, and I continue to play it. The people who are asking for this, enjoy playing the game. That is why we are desperately asking for it. If I thought the game sucked, I wouldn't care, and move on to another game.

So a business needs to really take that as something that can hurt the business.

This guy doesn't understand how poll works.

If you have a vote and don't invite the concerned population, its a biased sample and worthless data. This is little dogs yapping, nothing more.

If zos asks the people actually playing the game what they want, maybe then you would see there's no real value to adding text chat.

If text chat was added today, you would be in the forums tomorrow complaining it didn't allow you to post in enough colors.
Face it, some people just want to complain about a game and some people want to play it.

    I going to go play.

What game are you playing? I have never come across anything other than the occasional accidental mic noise easily fixed by pointing it out the player.

Its too easy to report trolls for people to be intentionally being jerks. The bars and the blacksmith are clamourous as a real bar or workplace might be.
I like my world bustling with activity.

Just assert yourself if you want to group or pro tip don't try to bother the people fixing and deconstructing armor to stop their activities to serve your whims. That's selfish.

Try recruiting by a way shrine or a city gate or some area where people aren't already doing something. You will be happier, your group will be happier. Also if you aren't in a guild that will help you dungeon, leave it and find one that will. That's a real easy fix.

Plus there's a group matchmaking system on console to get you together with others. Once grouped, be cool and make friends with your impromptu team. They might become your regular team.

Exactly. Their reasoning is extremely pathetic. They clearly only speak for a tiny fringe, and in many cases were arguing against consoles even getting to play ESO prior to it launching, and are now acting as though they are "concerned" about immersion.

It is far more immersion breaking to zone into a new area, have the area voice chat automatically switch back on after you have switched it off a million times, and instead of the beautiful background music and ambience that ZOS has made for the game you are subjected to a bunch of noise abuse with people screaming obscenities and playing loud "music" that scarcely deserves that title.

Its not nearly as bad as you make it sound. If you don't want to play with people and all that involves, playwitcher people say things and have different opinions. Some people have family or roommates. That isn't going to change if you are typing a furiously worded message into the text chat.

    Unsurprisingly incorrect on all accounts.

The sample taken to support the accuracy of your "poll" is not a fair representation of the average console player, playing ESOTU.

The average console player will not visit this forum on a regular basis, and it is also common knowledge that disgruntled customers are more likely to give feedback than satisfied customers. The "poll" is virtually meaningless. Especially with such a small representation. Attempting to hold this up as some sort of proof to anyone outside of your text cult only illustrates your bias & lack of understanding in what this "proof" really means, as well as a slap in the face to polling statisticians around the world.

As for me... you've caught me red handed. I am a member of the hated PC Master Race. I've spent many years clacking & clicking away at my keyboard in the chat pane of virtual worlds, making many friends over the years. Some I still have to this day. Of course, as evolution dictates, we migrated most of our social interactions over voip programs such as TS, Vent, etc. as they are far superior in almost every aspect.

I'll also disclose that I have played consoles off & on for many years. Including MMOs, such as FFXIV, DCUO (which I found to be rubbish) & now ESO. I find ESO to be a breath of fresh air. It's like the punk rock of MMOs. The unorthodox approach to a stale, bloated genre of clones. Yes, I play the console version of the game now & enjoy it more so than the PC version. Which I didn't think possible as console MMOs have historically been inferior to an epic degree, because they try to be PC MMOs on console. This game is a more organic representation of what a console MMO should be. Most of you are still trying to equate it's existence to PC. That is where this whole argument stems from. You want a PC experience on console. I want an Elder Scrolls experience.

So yes, I know exactly what no text is like. And yes, please, let's keep it that way.

I'm only trying to point out that it's not the perfect means of communication that some posters on this thread present it as. People replying that they've never run a dungeon and experienced a chat window with dialogue such as I posted? C'mon, everybody knows that's either BS or the person hasn't played MMOs for very long. It makes the collective argument for text much stronger if people stop trying to paint it as all rainbows and unicorns. Focus on text's positive features, acknowledge it's faults (that you know exist), and then you have a pretty solid argument.

Some people probably dislike several things about the game, they just don't hate those elements enough to come on the forums to write about it.
But just because they can't be bothered to post on a forum, doesn't change the fact that they still dislike these things.

Most of the people complaining about voice chat just aren't giving it a try.
    Best of luck.

You realize am on PC right?

    Just sayin'.

For the record I'm for text chat. I also see through the hyperbole and realize that's it's not the panacea some people make it out to be. I'm glad that I found a good couple of guilds to run with. It took some effort, but was definitely worth it.

One is in a window that you can simply not look at, the other blasts through the TV sound system for the whole family to hear.

On my PC guild, we have started to recruit again.

When we are in Cyrodiil every night on voice chat and a new below 10 player logs in, it's nice and welcoming for us to be able to say hi to them.

On the PS4, unless I'm doing it wrong, you can only talk in one channel at a time, so we are in a cyrodiil group, we simply cannot communicate with the rest of our guild (or any other group in Cyrodiil)

I use about 50/50 text/voice on the PC. I don't pug, I don't buy/sell through text chat, most of the time I'm only interested in guild chat or faction if in Cyrodiil. But those times make text a necessity for me.

I haven't run a dungeon etc for years in any mmo without using voice, but at the same time have often had people along that can't communicate through voice whether for health reasons or whatever, and my groups have always happily accommodated those via text chat while still using voice for the rest of the group.

Sure you get spam with text, but I would rather get text spam than random strangers blaring through my speakers. Like many others, my voice is now permently off on console and I'm simply playing a single player game on it.

I expected to split my time about 50/50 between console and PC, but due to this, I'm rarely playing the console version at all at the moment :(

Bummer that this issue drove you away from playing on console. IMO the game rocks in that format and I haven't touched any of my PC games since launch.

I agree with everything that you're saying here and have a feeling that you realize I was trying to illustrate a point. Of course text is necessary for the situations that you describe. Just to reply regarding PvP, it is beyond frustrating to have no global faction chat in Cyrodil. Raid leaders can't communicate with other leaders and still be in the same party chat as their own raid, small groups have little idea what is happening in the zone, and now (with most players turning off Area chat) getting an invite to a group can be like pulling teeth.

When I'm not running in a guild group, I'd like to arrive in Cryodil, find out where the fights are, see if any of the regular leaders that I like to run with have space, and get down to playing. Without text that's pretty much impossible and has made PvP on the console an exercise in frustration more often than not.

I own both pc and console versions. I am in favor or bringing chatbox over to console. Overall the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion. Voip pros are that you do coordinate better in groups when voice is used. Especially in regards to leadership roles. For extroverts voip can makes things feel much more interactive as well with knowing your actual voice and therefore opinions can be heard. This also cuts out the annoying gold spammers most of us hate so much. People are also far less likely to show their douchier sides when having to play from a more personal level. From outlets like a game chat, these forums or most of the internet as a whole people will vomit out whatever idiocy they please with little consequence socially through text. Now most of the pros stay pros when text chat is used but Voip remains an option which is industry standard anyway. Cutting out chat makes alot of introverted people feel more isolated during times when they would prefer not to be. Losing the chat box makes it harder to trade and group up which is a biggy. I don't miss every ounce of nonsense but I do miss people cutting up on local chats for the most part when I grind something tedious. In short Voip should still as always remain an option and obviously still the best one for any type of focused grouping, but taking text out entirely is not needed. Anyone that is not speaking from their mic using a nicely voice acted race based Tamriel accent is not doing anything for my immersion factor, let's keep it real here.
