Or they will maybe shut down the servers, release each zone as offline dlc for singleplayer, and make the pvp a 4 vs 4 :p

Nah. That will be the next standalone installment released in 2017+ lol.

I want voice chat, and I want text chat. Text chat works great in towns and public areas where people are trying to sell there wares. I don't want to do a search at a guild vendor to find something to buy, I want to see text pop up and when I finally see that guy selling that piece of armor I have been looking for then boom.

That would put me into a very happy place. This game is not the first console MMO. Everquest Online Adventures on PS2 did this without voice chat. That was a very successful game that was played for many years. Stick a wireless keyboard into the usb slot of the console and presto, you have a new controller, with a massive amount hot keys that are easier to use. Adding voice chat is very integral to any console game, and they did that pretty well. But, many aspects of an MMO need to be done with text chat. Or the people who are shy can still get things done without talking over their mic.

The possibilities are endless with a voice and text chat support. As it is right now, the possibilities are not endless. They are not endless, because we are limited to how we perceive and share our experiences across the world that we inject our characters into. The characters that we created with our heart and soul, and then only to be held back in the most simple of ways. This game was made so well, you can basically choose anything you want to do. The one error is the limited possibilities on how you can interact in the world you created for us.

Please support text chat as a secondary form of communication. It is much needed.

The game is a lot of fun. But not having an effective way to communicate certain things easily is making me very tired of the game. Some examples are:
    • Finding people to trade for deconstructing
    • Finding people to run dungeons
    • Finding people to trade
    • Gathering up people for dolmens/bosses
    • Gathering guild members to do an activity
    • Being able to be part of multiple conversations at once (have to keep leaving one voice channel to another to talk now)

So please add text chat to the game. I know I probably won't be sticking around if I can't find people easily to do content with at higher levels.

    EDIT: Typos

I agree, the current system is very limiting. I had a lot of fun with people on the PC version and I elusively used text chat. I'd just like it back and this game would be the perfect Xbox One game in my opinion.

Both Voice and Text are vital for different situations and of course, personal preference.

I'd love to have Text Chat for trading, selling (as mentioned before me), etc.
Where as voice chat I'd want for dungeons, raids, or general grouping with decent people.

I mostly use PSN's Party Chat with my friends though. That way I don't hear all the random fans, kids screaming, table pushing, and other odd sounds.

It seems like an anti-social perspective in the thread. Or those who are anti guild store and feel that text chat is their place to use as a market.

Ppl pay to block pop-ups and adds...why would they put this into the game for an alternate communication purpose. Maybe a limited 25 character chat bubble but nothing more (with a limit on how often the chat bubble could be used)

I get the response to players who don't use etiquette with their mics but after mute it's not an issue.
I just ask nicely or let them know everyone can hear their background noise and ask them to mute their mic.

If they are rude, I mute them. If they are over the top and intentional or do so with malice I report them on Xbox.

Otherwise, it's a great feature that's far better way of communication.

Anti-social to me is limiting me to only being able to interact with people in my vicinity.

I will never be able to have a discussion / make friends / get to know anyone that isn't in my immediate vicinity or guild.

With area text chat in the huge zones I often carry on a conversation with someone no where near me on the PC.

I'll never have that opportunity with the current system.

Again , no one's asking to remove area voice chat.

Seems to me it's more anti-social to not let those who want to communicate with MORE people MORE often and in LARGER areas that want to.

Instead , turning off voice , playing it as a single player game with occasional group , until you just quit (as others have noted in this thread they are ready to do ) is going to be widespread.

Currently I cannot form a group manually with the 3 other friendly players just outside my voice area chat.

That's about as anti-social as I've seen in an mmo.

Yes muting people repeatedly is a blast... No, wait, it is not; what happens is people just get fed up with it and remove themselves from the voice comms completely; leaving exactly 0 ways to effectively communicate (I'll concede those quick chat options as communication when you can describe a boss with mechanics with it) with these people, or with other people if you remove yourself from the voice comms.

No communication channels is never better then multiple communication channels. Many people are abandoning voice chat with randoms in this game; my social guild (http://alessianorder.enjin.com/, 145 members currently) has many people who instantly remove themselves from Area chat.

Finally, you must be ignorant if you do not see that text chat and voice comms both have pros and cons, and there are scenarios where one option is obviously superior to the other. For example, text chat has voice comms beat hands down when it comes to multiple channel communication. I can have 1 chat window showing me messages from multiple channels at once; I can also type to multiple channels at once. With these voice comms, I can hear only 2 channels at once, and can't communicate effectively through those channels without monkeying around joining/leaving channels. There, off the top of my head, I can name at least one scenario, common to MMOs, in which text chat is the superior option; nullifying your last statement.

Last note; I've been lurking on this board since PC launch, just an idea, but stop speaking for "console gamers"; I've seen you do this way too often when there were no console gamers here (because we couldn't post until we owned a copy of the game); limit your opinions to yourself, I am a console gamer and disagree with almost everything I've seen you stand for on this site.

I've heard more microphone static, yelling parents, barking dogs, background conversations, pestering girlfriends, background television shows, potato chip bags, front doors being answered, and children trying to get their parent's attention than I have heard players actually talking into their microphones as intended. I had the same issue with Destiny. ESO & Destiny have been my only online console games in over a decade.

Having played PC games using VOIP for over 15 years I never experienced but a tiny fraction of such occurrences on PC games, nor did I experience those issues with PS2/Dreamcast/Original Xbox online games using headsets. And many of those games mentioned (or uses of teamspeak/ventrilo) were not push-to-talk, just like ESO.

What has happened? Why has voice chat etiquette gone down the toilet on consoles? Is it just a lack of instruction manuals or something? Or do players just not care?

And on that topic, why do we have to block people's PSN/Live accounts just to mute them? Can't we get a 1-button point-and-press 1-hour mute option?
End the tedious inventory management game.

My first post on here and as a console gamer not only do I want text chat options but damage no.s displayed or some sort of combat log. You need these things in an mmo I'm a 4 year DCUO vet on console and they're pretty much essential for end game content. I didn't care for text chat or damage/heal/power no.s displayed but I didn't have a clue how mmos worke being a console gamer.Didn't take long to realise though . This game desperately needs lfg chat , guild chat and proximity chat . Damage nos are important too it's impossible to test things without them. Please don't treat console gamers like 2nd class citizens due to our format give us the full shibang we can handle it. Apologies if this is repeating old ground didn't have time to read the whole day thread just my quick opinion on the matter i have to say I was amazed at these omissions. Gonna be ridiculous running the guild with no chat box and 50 plus online .

BTW shameless plug for the guild but massterror are recruiting all on PS4 dagger fall are welcome. We're a top tier guild from dcuo check us out on yt. Top end pve and pvp are our intentions we Intend to be the best.

If this bothers you, why not turn it off as everyone has recommended turning off Area Chat in-game if that is irritating to us?

^^^It goes beyond "irritating" to the average console player...we like our controllers and headset for coms.

And that's perfectly fine too. Adding text chat does not stop you from doing exactly this. And you could turn it off, as mentioned above.

^^^Keeping text chat on the PC and out of consoles does not stop ppl from rolling the game effectively either.

Nothing you just wrote helps the situation for selling wares or grouping up for non-dungeon content in the least. There are a number of in-game systems that are entirely obtuse to actually use in-game, and that is an issue.

^^^ I bed to differ. Trading guilds, the fourms if needed (that are very active) taking a chance and speaking with the many, many ppl in game around u, being in a guild with others who would surly help other guildies quest etc..

Your solution of "just ignore it" simply isn't good enough for many of us.

^^^ I said "ignore it"? Wat is "it"? u lost me on this one.

And soon, PC will also have optional Voice Chat, making it a far more versatile experience for gamers. Consoles should not be left out of this flexibility, as each avenue of communication excels in different situations. VC cannot replace text chat for certain things, just as text chat cannot replace voice communication in other examples.

^^^ Idk about that, seems a lot of pc players are complaining about ZOS not fixing etc much since launch...wat makes adding VC to pc a top priority above gameplay bugs fixes and new content etc? Teamspeak or vent does just fine for vc on the pc.
We console players do not feel "left out" by not having to text chat.

What a silly example, considering that this was an entirely 3rd person game before players complained about no 1st person view being available, and ZOS was wise enough to add it prior to launch for those who enjoy that style of gameplay. And the game has been much better for it, as it allows BOTH walks of life to enjoy their time in-game.

^^^ I don't think it's "silly". And I wouldn't have rolled any of the Elder scrolls nor ESO had they not offered 3rd person view.I wouldn't have went on the devs page/fourm complaining either..I'd just simply buy wat best suited me and my needs/wants.

That's all that we are asking for here, a way that players of BOTH preferences to enjoy their time in-game, especially in light of how wonky the systems that were originally designed w/ text chat in mind have become w/out it.

^^^ All we the console controller using players are asking is to keep it in line with wat we are used to...controller and mic. PC gamers are used to keyboard and mouse and texting/typing. Again, this game is on the PC for those who have to have text...no complaints from most console players as to wat or wat is not available with the PC version...I think it should be the same for the console version.[/quote]

You don't speak for me dude . You wanna play an mmo do it right you clearly don't have experience in this avenue . I'm on here posting right now cos no text DIRECTLY affects my enjoyment and ability to play effectively these things are needed and in no way a hindrance . Can't run a guild with no channels. Not everyone mics up yknow. Good luck discussing raid strats etc . Some people use text for a second language in mmos but can't speak it clearly as I've experienced alot. Toggle it off if it bothers you but don't speak for me or anyone else like its some b.a console Vs PC thing.

    Wait wait wait.

We were told by the self appointed speakers for all console players ( there's about 3 of them that seem to share that role ) , that all of these people that want text chat are PC players.

That the poll that got conveniently closed by Zenimax that was brutally in favor of having a text chat option was because of PC players on the console.

So you all must be lying , I mean no console players use or want text chat.

The console leaders have said so.

    +1 for text chat

Also I find the in game chat to be pretty good most times expect it does seem to bug out when changing from group to guild or other channels. Sometimes you get grouped as a pair when there are 15 other people all talking but you cannot talk to them, you can see their mic and they are talking fine.

    Relogging fixes that.

I think text chat will get used and could be a good tool for getting a global message out to the guild like LFM X Dungeon etc.

I would only use text chat to make looking for groups easier, other than that I would not use it.

That being said I do not see why people are against it as an option you can turn off or on.

As long as I can not have it on my screen I am okay with its implementation.

If they insist on limiting us in this way, many will simply opt-out altogether and fail to make the connections necessary to build a real attachment to the game and the sense of community here is going to suffer terribly.

We connect in a variety of ways through a basic text chat system. Many of my great mmo experiences started that way and progressed to voice chat. But NEVER replaced it entirely. Often we're in a group channel for voice and still interacting in guild chat and with the wider community through area chat and personal interaction with PMs. You can do this with text chat, voice chat cannot accomplish this.

I think it's a huge mistake to think that the console community doesn't want this feature to 'clutter' the game. I've personally been waiting for a console mmorpg with exactly this and lore behind it that I enjoy. Many console players who are not used to this will either find themselves enjoying the added depth or should be able to turn it off and play as they like without it. The game can really cater to both here.

Not knowing if they ever intend to implement text chat, has really soured my groups experience of the game so far. I love the game, the elderscrolls lore and it just feels awesome to be playing it on my couch. But with no push to talk, I'm always leaving area chat. The voice chat is a great idea, but making it the only form of communication? It makes no sense.

It' a shame to think that this could be such a great mmorpg on the console, one of which I'd be a longtime subscriber, if they'd only given us this basic feature.

    Okay...I will be honest...
The REAL reason I prefer using Text Chat over Voice Chat...
When I was just a young boy, my family and I were just about to have supper. Suddenly the door burst open and these...Voice-Chatters stormed in and started stealing our stuff, destroying our house, and MURDERED my entire family! All the while they did this they casually "chatted" amoungst themselves!
Luckily I was adopted shortly after by a nice family of Text-Chatters. Oh...the long lovely nights we had peacefully reading. I cannot imagine how my life might have turned out if not for those kind Text-Chatters...
I might have ended up in The Dark BrotherHood! *gasp*

I can only share this very personal story with you because I can type it out, and you will not hear the tears in my voice.

Today in Reaper's March there were literally dozens of players just running around the towns, wayshrine locations, banks, crafting stations, and especially werewolf/vampire shrines and spawn locations just screaming, making loud artificial digital static with their microphones all in protest of their inability to get a bite. Since so many players were in the area with their microphones open it was impossible to tell who to mute. It was necessary for everyone to disable voice chat completely. Muting them is very difficult task which would result in blocking... realizing it's the wrong person... unblocking.. then trying again and again.

WAKE UP DEVS!!! Are you actually playing your own game?! Area chat and guild voice chat is a disaster. Guilds which are small enough to have voice chat be viable will forever lack the more important benefits of additional players for trading, PvE, and PvP. Thus disasterous guild voice chat will continue. Area chat? It's just trolls, crying babies, screaming parents, background noise, microphone feedback, and other undesirable results of not having push to talk. The only ideal scenario for your current voice chat system is dungeon groups and trials and PvP teams up to 12 players. A PvP group of 24 players is just too much when all those players have open microphones.

Remedy the situation! Here are some suggestions.

    • Give players opt-in text chat for guilds.
    • Allow players to set default guild voice chat channels.
    • Do not automatically re-join us to a voice chat channel after loading screens.
    • Allow players to assign the cycle quest button to push-to-talk and consider making it the default choice. Holding the button down could be set to switch between push-to-talk and open-microphone.

Also, hearing and speech impaired. Do you not care about those customers? They have no viable means to communicate with other players. Quick chat certainly doesn't suffice.
