Can't tell if you're saying that wanting an environment where multiple styles of play can be really strong is stupid or if you're saying that people thinking a lack of a text box will cause zerging is stupid.

Right now I'm under the impression you are implying the former and that just leaves me confused. If you're implying the latter my mistake and cheers mate.

Can't convince my long-time MMO buddies on PC to come and play ESO with me on console when it's lacking the most basic social feature.

So far for me it's been a singleplayer game with lots of extra NPC's with weak pathfinding skills.

I hope ZoS for once stick to their guns and don't add chatbox, never know, ppl might actually figure out that conversing with others and socialising can be beneficial.

Doubtful on both tho, ZoS cave in way to easy and generally players only care about their own little world
ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing

So you would deny hearing impaired players the opportunity to socialize in the game? Your obviously only thinking about your own little world.

I haven't come across a single person within gameplay saying they hate voice chat. Ps4. 25 hrs played. The op is just wrong.
Oh god. Please zos don't make us have to play with the controller in one hand and A keyboard in the other. Pleasssssse. No text chat.

I know its ironic that I'm typing this. If zos forums had voice chat I wouldn't have to hen peck out that joke.

But if people aren't around to hear what you day right then, then nobody could respond.

I don't see why people are so against text chat. You don't have to use it. People who are demanding one or the other are the problem. It so should have both and be entirely optional with ways to turn them off like you can in PC (text).

If you want voice you should be allowed to use it entirely with options to work it how you choose. But people who want text should be able to entirely turn off voice and rely on text chat.

It's the same as people who don't want to pvp or pve. You don't want to do it so you don't. Text vs. Voice is the same bloody thing! Use the chat you prefer and let others play the game as they choose.

I have an idea. Make text chat a paid dlc feature. If a player can prove a disability, they get a free code. Then zos can make some actual money off the only customer who will buy or want text cha t, gold farmers and not spammers.
Then zos can use the money raised to hire a guy to jus ban and delete gold farm accounts, troll accounts and bottled accounts.
    Everybody wins.
This game is fng great just the way it is.

I know its ironic that I'm typing this. If zos forums had voice chat I wouldn't have to hen peck out that joke.

    There are problems with this:

    1. Those of us that hate chat, remove ourselves from it. First thing I do in the game is leave of Area chat. This then leaves me with no way to communicate with other players; because I don't want to deal with the annoying people in voice comms. No communication is never the correct answer, so we ask for text chat to give us an option besides listening to people's whole living rooms at once; or listening to squeakies, or blaring music (I've run into all of these in game, I gave Area chat a chance, and it was just annoying, so I left it).

    2. Most pro-text chat people are not anti-voice. You know where I do use voice comms, with my friends and guild. So it isn't really even people are against voice, we are pro-text. These concepts are not mutually exclusive. Use voice comms where appropriate and use text chat where appropriate. It is ignorant to believe that each method does not have pros and cons and scenarios where they are better suited.

    3. Precedence says controller and keyboard is a very viable and often preferred method of playing a game, one simply needs to look at FFXIV:ARR (on any of the systems, PC, PS3 or PS4) to see many many many people using this exact setup.

    4. We live in a society that increasingly uses text for basic communication (one simply needs to look at how people use phones and the internet in general), even though voice options are available. This game is now bucking that trend for absolutely no valid reason.

    5. You don't speak for all console gamers (this is in response to your other posts in the locked thread); I am purely a console gamer, and I desire text chat. So please, avoid generalizing us, you can speak about what "you" prefer, but don't say console gamer this, console gamer that; because I exist and disagree with you on this completely.

i have played both console and pc versions of the game,i dont think text caht is NEEDED, But i certainly do think it will help... A LOT! i have read a lot about people enjoying voice chat, thats great, it dosnt have to be one or the other, all i want is the option to have a chat box where i can type, and be able to turn off the mic, since my experience with the voice chat so far has been horrible...plus look at FFXIV: ARR console has text chat, i played that game from release right up until ESO came out on ps4! and it makes guilds, grouping, trading a hell of a lot easier!

    YES FOR TEXT CHAT!

I do find it funny that so far on voice chat most people that are using it that I have heard have been doing one of these things:
    1.Playing music (annoying)
    2. Acting stupid arguing with people over nothing (annoying)
    3. Mic is constantly breaking up (annoying)
    4. People running up to you constantly bothering you then when you turn to them they run away (annoying)
    5. Have a tv running in background (annoying)

Seems like no one is using voice chat right out in open, not sure about dungeon and PvP stuff yet.

100% Agreed.... i think i burst an ear drum when there was some europeon dude shouting...another day with voice chat : off

Just want to add my 2 cents as a console player. I think it's ridiculous that there is no text chat in this game. For me this is the biggest disappointment and what will ultimately have me going back to FF14, a MMO that I can be on a console and use text chat just fine on. Voice Chat is just horrible and low quality in this game in my opinion and I never use it. I use the PSN party chat if I do want to voice chat as that comes in clearer. Almost might as well have no chat I almost feel the way things are now. I never get group finder groups where people actually use a mic. Even if I did, honestly I would rather not use one anyway. I, like I'm sure at least a few other MMO players, have some social anxiety and can't stand using voice chat. I'm not bothered by annoying mic use in town so much as with there being another, and in my opinion better, console MMO out that doesn't force you voice chat, I just don't see a reason to stick around here long term.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Zenimax, take this mans post, print it off, laminate it, and distribute it to all your console staff to put up on their fridges at home.

I and many other people fall into at least some, if not all, of these categories. Personally, I think this game feels more like a single player game with 20 people running around in the same area, not an mmo. Why? Because I dont feel connected to the game, I dont feel connected to its community.

First day experience of the game there were people trying to talk into their mics in the tutorial area and near the crafting areas in the starting area and all I heard was an awful blaring sound that just sounded like white noise mixed with a blow horn. Later on after I saved the queen in Aldmeri Dominion I found this one guy being annoying trying to pick a fight for no reason with this other guy. The other guy wanted nothing to do with it and tried to leave but the annoying guy just kept following him until the other guy decided to turn off his proximity voice chat. Seeing this, i wanted nothing to do with blaring mics and annoying people so I did the same, rendering me communication-less except for the couple of people I'm now usually in a party with who I've decided to play the game with.

I feel very disconnected to the in-game community. I cant talk to my guildmates without abandoning the people in my PlayStation party to join a chat channel; I dont know what items/equipment are in demand; I dont know what items are going for what prices other than werewolf and vampire bites; and I cant efficiently talk to my "looking for group" party or guild to organize a dungeon run if they are all over the world and not standing at the door. I could keep going but I'm sure you get the picture.

We really need the basic text chat mechanics that all proper mmo's require; quick chat and voice channels just don't cut it. Zenimax please take posts like the one above seriously and reconsider.

I'm very much for a text box i'll admit, but then i use voice chat as well, even if no one is particularly listening.

Figured I'd throw my 2 cents in.

I find voice chat to be less social and far more restrictive in meeting new people than text chat.

    1. More people can talk in text chat than in voice chat. Voice chat causes people to be cut off, confusing if there is more than one conversation going on

    2. I am restricted. A) If I am doing a dungeon with my group - I cannot talk to my guild. Well, if my group was in guild chat, sure I could, but I'm sure they wouldn't enjoy "heal me" "I need a res" "I'm out of magicka" being yelled. Comparison: On PC, I can be on voice chat with my group, and still view the guild chat. If I see a question come up and nobody answers, when I have a moment I can answer that question. On console - I would have never have even known that question was asked. B ) Let's say I am enjoying hanging out with my guild, and I meet a random new person who seems to be doing the quests with me. I must abandon my guild chat to speak with this new person in the area. On PC, I could use /say and never leave my guild chat. It's also a lot slower having to go through the menus on console to move voice chat zones.

    3. I don't find voice chat to help meeting anyone better. A)Many people keep saying to go into Party Chat so you don't need to listen to terrible things - well.. that's not very social. You have now effectively cut off just chatting with someone you meet up with in game B ) Once again, see issue of choosing guild over area or vice versa

    4. I can't listen. As in - I cannot listen to the great voice acting I enjoy so much. Well, I can... but that means I need to be anti-social and turn off voice chat - I can't tell the entire guild or area to be quiet while I listen to an NPC. On PC, when I want to quest and listen - I don't use voice chat, I use text.

    5. I have ran into many many people who don't have (or won't use) mics. Well... now I don't ever get to know them I guess. PSN messages are not a viable way to chat, and neither is mail.

I'd rather quit ESO and play something else. I will not use the voice chat to speak or listen to random people. After a week, I'm pretty much convinced that I don't even want to hear other players's voices/sounds anymore.

It would be great if they at least add an option to auto-leave area chat whenever I switch the zone.

And this! SO much this. I respect if people prefer not to use voice chat. As I've mentioned before. My guild has teamspeak, and not all members use it - they are not comfortable. You know what? Some of those people are the funniest, most chattiest people in TEXT chat. Previous to being on PC and getting to KNOW people first - I didn't like voice chat. I honestly paid and set up our TS3 server, but did not use it. I wasn't comfortable. Once I became comfortable with everyone, I started using it.

Also, back to my point on leaving guild chat to meet someone, when I've played on PS4, SO many times I have done that to try to meet someone, and guess what? They don't respond. Maybe no mic? Maybe they have area chat off? Maybe they are in their guild chat?

@Ace-2112 Are you pro addons? Might want to check this post out too.

I think that Zenimax will find out just how large a population of players are already considering this , or very quickly will.

After one or two experiences of screeching , yelling racial obscenities , or just running through areas playing crowded music , many , many people are just turning off voice chat and playing it as a single player game that others happen to be around.

I expect the console population to plummet much faster than most mmo's do after launch.

feel the same blossy :( playing ff14 until ( maybe ) things get adressed.

Or they will maybe shut down the servers, release each zone as offline dlc for singleplayer, and make the pvp a 4 vs 4 :p

    Honestly worth re-quoting again.

I sadly think this will be what finally makes Zenimax reverse their decision.

    $$$

Once enough leave , there's less to spend in the cash shop.

The question is , will it be too late before they do it.

They've shown they can make a fun game , but at the same time make stupid decisions that add up to not making it worth it.

I'd add in that not allowing consoles players to remap their own controls because they thought it was too confusing for console players is at the top of the insulting decisions they made.
