By their own admission, which could have been a slip of the moment, they have already revealed that the console version of ESO has "millions of active players" in the game right now. That puts sales in the 10's to 100's of millions of US dollars just for pre-order and first week sales.

I know they posted that statement here: http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2015/06/11/esotu-console-launch-update

But somehow I doubt there actually is millions of players. ESO was #7 on Ps4 on Amazon, and #1 on XboxOne last I checked today. On Ps4 Destiny sell more than the basic game version, and Destiny does not sell in the millions anymore.

Xbox sales are probably due to the Xbox reddit thing yesterday, since Eso was #4 on Xbox 24 hours prior.

A month ago ESO was #40 on Amazon both on Ps4 and Xbox. Nothing of this adds to millions in sales to me.

Destiny was #1 for months prior and after launch. I don't get the numbers to match, it sounds like a excuse to explain the trouble they have. But if it actually has sold in the millions then that's great. Then they'll have the economic freedom to wrap the DLC's up and actually have incentives to do so as they will sell in high numbers.

It is not the update it is the lack of information. Like now we hear E3 wait till E3. A little more info wouldn't hurt of what we will hear about and not just on consoles.

Now I know this is just a PC/MAC game but this is exactly what people (gamers) like me are looking for.

"During EA's E3 2015 Press Conference scheduled for next week on June 15th, more information will be revealed to Star Wars: The Old Republic players and what they have to look forward to as the year progresses with the just announced Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion."

Just a little fluff would be nice and shut a lot of us up. You have a great game here but you really need to work on that communication. We can wait for E3 but give us an egg or just the white of the egg. Then you will end up with a great game and a great community!

I just don't know how else to let you guys know the one area you are failing in.

No am not advertising for SWTOR republic, this game is 100% better than them.

If you think that any company with the same (similar) name is an entirely different company you're from another planet.....
Or for that matter any company associating with the 'same' product but different name.....

Tax liabilities, asset distribution and corporate responsibility makes them appear on paper to be run separately but trust me they are linked , all the timeframes on release dates and updates will be carefully managed on a singular board room level. They would be daft to do it any other way.

The reason they dont say anything cause what they would say would be something like this.

"We are currently devoting all of our resources to the console launch and extracting as much money as possible on the console box sales. There are no resources devoted to making the PC players happy because we really don't care all that much about that segment of our game. We will get back to developing content as soon as we think we can release content and the consoles players don't get upset and think that it should have been included in the box price of the game."

So... Almost 4 months and not a single update, the game went F2P as I predicted, And then also ceased to receive updates (Beyond a console port). So.. what happened to all the promises you made SOE? Where is spellcrafting, and all of that other cool stuff you said was coming?

From what I can tell it seems like you all just abandoned the game after it went F2P.

You predicted it would go f2p? Well its B2P smart guy, a big difference as a business model.

first all its called B2P not F2p so you didn't predict that and as has been stated many times by Zos and people on the forums about these posts nothing until after Console startup which means probably around first of July or August since Console startup can take a bit of time. But, I guess your prediction abilities weren't working then also.

B2P is an F2P model. Any game which requires one Purchase, or has Micro transaction with no purchase, or Is "Free to play" every month without needing to pay a Subscription, is Free to Play, by definition.

So my prediction abilities are just fine. Also ZOE never actually stated "When" they would start working on things, they used words like "Probably" and Maybe" and It might be", and Were not sure.

Link me a statement where ZOE states "For a Fact and Definitively" that work on other features "WILL" begin in July.

You can't, but what you can link me is something ZOE saying that most likely features and updates and content won't be added until after console release and fixes etc, which means it could be years depending on how they define that statement, or maybe not at all.

So all of these games I bought on Steam that do not require a montly sub are Free to play?

I don't understand, how is buying free?

Ya, that guy doesn't get the difference and is trying to make himself seem right. B2P and F2P VERY different.

LOTRO was a paid subscription and I had to buy the box when it first came out. Then down the road it became F2P... its a F2P game.

ESO was a paid subscription and I had to buy the box when it first came out. Then down the road it became F2P... its called a "B2P" game.

If ESO is "B2P" then so is LoTRO.... Let me tell you guys a secret... In about a year or so after a DLC or two the starter content will be free, but they want their MILLIONS off the console players. So Zeni in a way is cheating you out of money on content that is F2P.

B2P is a scam to make fanboy players feel better that their game is not as bad as the next freemium game. The fact that they added a crown store to buy items is proof of this. True B2P games dont try and milk money off you after you buy them, like my steam games they dont have stores and advertising to keep me buying items to make them more money.

yeah this is not true at all, perfect example is Guild of Wars its B2P it has a store. Heck even WoW is going to B2P I could be wrong but I though I read somewhere awhile back on gamefly that WoW is heading in direction of B2P (again I could be wrong on this) though I do know that you can play up to lvl 20 for free.

F2P means that the game is exactly that free meaning it doesn't cost anything to download the game that is F2P its free you do not have to pay anything to download the game. B2P is not a scam, I guess if you want to look at it that way well I can lead a horse to water but I can't make the horse drink it. B2P is imo a trend that seems like a lot of MMO's are going to as it allows them to still make money on the initial game and perhaps makes longer sales in the long run with store and paying for DLC content. Also seems like B2P model is the best model if you aren't sure you will like the game or you grow tired of it at some point in time you don't have to worry about paying monthly fee and can sub on and off as you see fit. I'm assuming like most DLC content it will only be about twenty dollars as that seems like the norm.

Just curious, but how do you consider paying $60 to play the game, FTP? I am really not trying to troll you or be rude, I am sincerely asking this question in hope for a legitimate answer.

Sure, it has many aspects of FTP like the crown store, but you still have to purchase (BTP) the game to play it. Other FTP games you can just download and start playing. Then you make in game purchases to unlock new content or extra crap.

B2P and F2P are two paths that lead to the same place.

Let's say ESO had gone F2P but removed some of the features it has as B2P, maybe say less character slots, less inventory space etc. To get those features would cost, let's say $60, after which you're left with the rest of the cash shop content of cosmetics, pets, potions and, eventually, zones/quest packs. Which, after buying ESO for $60, is the same as we have now.

So, F2P or B2P, you arrive at the same point. F2P will bring more people in but many of those might spend absolutely nothing and put up with the restrictions, B2P has the initial price barrier that F2P doesn't have but each sale is a guaranteed spend of at least $60. After that both models operate pretty much the same.

Like another poster in this thread, I played LOTRO (I too bought it when it was still a sub-only game) and, honestly, don't see much variation between between their cash shops. Granted, beyond cosmetics and pets, there doesn't seem to be anything in the Crown Store that can't be obtained in game somewhere or somehow but I expect this will change down the line and more like the LOTRO model where new game features were introduced and had some exclusive element of it tied in to the store.

Eso is not F2P. Everybody still has to buy a cd-key to create an account to play the game.
Lotro is F2P because you can just download and play without spending money at all.

If ESO in future will be able to create an account and playing without paying then it will be a F2P game. But, right now it's a buy to play game.
