The Deceitful Specifics of the Imperial Edition for PS4

Hey guys, me and my brother both pitched in the buy the Imperial Edition on PS4 (preorder) and, to our dismay, we found out that the specifics for how the perks are applied aren't really mentioned and kinda cheated us out. I looked around and I eventually found some more detailed information about the pack (sources included).

The Imperial Edition perks register and lock onto one account, not to the console. This means that if multiple players plan to play on the same system (siblings, roomates, etc.) then only the first one to redeem the key receives the perks. If the others wanted to also receive the perks, they woukd have to re-purchase the Imperial Edition on their own account in the ingame Crown Store.

If you apply the Imperial Edition perks to a player on one megaserver, you will not receive the perks if playing on a different megaserver.

Even on the same account, you will only receive the Imperial Edition items on one character ever. If you wish to have them on other characters, they must be transferred through the bank or such. I assume the Imperial Race will be available to all characters though as it is not an item.

I can see why they would want to implement such (cheap) methods in managing the Imperial Edition, otherwise people could make multiple accounts on the same system or multiple characters to trade off or sell the Imperial Edition items. However, this isn't the best way to deal with the issue and is actually quite unfair and deceitful considering that they never even mention this. A better method could possibly to make all Imperial Edition items untradeable and sellable for 0 gold.

Having to pay for the same thing for all your accounts is pretty much a fact when it comes to MMOs.

I suppose it is my first time I'm really trying to get inti an MMO but it seems that they should consider revising this then as the transfer to console also entails a greater chance or people using the same console. Not that all games must be the same, but we have received greater perks in other games that were still applied universally to all our accounts on the system.

First of all to my situation: I preordered the digital Imperial Edition in Xbox Store and installed it to my console. My girlfriend also wanted to play the game.

And usually the Xbox system works the way that everyone can use your content on your home console. Once you play on another console you don't have access to this content anymore. That's how it works for every game in the store and as Microsoft describes the system on the Xbox website.

Bethesda decided to not keep with this system but only give the stuff to one account. That may not be the best decision for customers but I could have lived with it if they had told me before. I bought the game assuming that it works the same as for every other game in the store and we both would be able to use the Explorer's Pack and Imperial Edition stuff. But once we started the game only I got all the stuff. So I headed to the forums searching for a solution just to find out that there's none as it's intended by Bethesda.

So I'm not complaining THAT they are binding stuff to one account I'm just complaining that you didn't tell us before. There's no word about it in the description in Xbox Store. If you would have told us there I would be fine, but you didn't! How should I know that for ESO it's completly different to the usual Xbox One system? I'm sorry I don't own any crystal balls. I really feel betrayed by you Bethesda. Very undair to not write it in the description. That completly destroyed my once high trust in your company. I won't preorder Bethesda games ever again.

How exactly is his complaint moot? Even provided that we read through the terms and conditions (I've never once done that) we would probably still not have found these tidbits of information that may have been the very deciding point of whether we wanted the Imperial Edition or not. Maybe Bethesda should have attached a "big book of common cheap MMO practices" along with every description of the game, it would have spared us the grief later.

Are you used to how digital copies work on Xbox One? It seems you don't! If you would know it you would know why I'm complaining. It's the fact that it's different to the usual Xbox One System and they didn't tell us. And yes I read the descriptiont completly in the store.

Ever? Well you can't possibly be an authority on everyone now. The majority of dlcs for console games actually apply to all accounts on the system so, at least among traditionally console players, universally applied might be the more commonheld belief (who even determines what's common sense? Certainly not one guy). Also, I don't believe PC players would encounter this problem as often as they don't typically share PCs and may be more familiar with like actions.

I have to agree here. All xbox game comment are sharable on that console.
ZoS most likely decided against using the shared method for potential problems such as a recovered gamertag on another console, then everyone on that console have the special edition as well.
Despite this I believe it was more of an oversight on ZoS part to not disclose this information rather than evil intentions.

Maybe it wasn't an evil intention, we can't know that. But before launch there was a huge outcry about a single use code for that comes with every game. Bethesda stated that it's not the case and that works the same way as all console games do. In this moment they should have realised that this only applies to the game itself and not to Explorer's Pavk and Imperial Edition. And of should have added this to the description in this moment.

So would you have not bought the game if you had known? Also you could always buy the Imperial Benefits from the Crown Store in ESO, that way you don't have to pay for another copy. Obviously this is more money and people are complaining about the worth of their money so it might irk you to spend extra. But think of it like this, there is no imperial "edition" only Imperial benefits and like every other item in the crown store, account bound. You can complain to Zenimax Online Studios but chances are you have to deal with it like most MMO's.

The game was not developed by Bethesda so please stop blaming them for the issues of ESO, they had little or nothing to do with the development of the game. Second, it makes sense that the Imperial edition is tied to one account, otherwise people could sell accounts with access to it meaning less money for ZoS. Also in my experience people tend to share their accounts with friends so that they can download games without buying them (one of my friends has played most released titles without ever buying them by doing this) so that is less money for ZoS as well. TBH the bonuses aren't that great, just the horse and the Imperial race and that matters very little your gf can have a full experience without them.

And to be fair, this is something you should have researched before buying the Imperial Edition, it wasn't a secret as you can see that the OP pointed out that the info was in faqs all along.

@Hellsrelic: If they had told me before I wouldn't have bought the Imperial Edition. But it's not only the IE it's also the preorder bonus. And no definitely won't buy anything in the crown store now. I'm really not planning to rewrd them for this polr communication!

One can not cheat an honest man. The problem here is 1) you are trying to P2W and 2) without actually paying twice for two sets of perks for two different players.
Besides, locking it on machine rather than account would have quite obvious drawbacks too.

I put this link on another post but thought I would also leave it here. Seems like they are unable to make up there minds as nowhere does it state that this only applies to the basic and not the Imperial version of the game

As a console gamer I am used to getting exactly the same game if I buy a disc or the digital version. Whatever I buy I expect it to be available on multiple accounts on the same console. Any perks that are available on special editions of games I have bought have always been available on multiple accounts. Having never played computer games and this was my first dip into MMOs how would I know what is customary in that area. Why would it be common sense to expect ESO Imperial version to behave in any way differently to all other console games.

It did not say that the Imperial version would be account restricted anywhere when I pre- ordered the game or i would have made my decision as to whether or not to buy on the basis of that information. Not having the gift of prescience it only when this actually happened that I started to search the Internet and forums that I found contrary information.

I fully accept that anything purchased through crowns would be account restricted but not the full game.

Whether or not this was an oversight is immaterial. It has still affected and alienated a large proportion of Console gamers and should be rectified

Oh I'm not trying to pay to win, more like I'm just a little upset I haven't received the bonus too (especially since I put more money down). We expected it to be like all other console dlc and though it's not bad to miss the perks I just kinda feel I should get something for the extra twenty dollars. The game is still great, yet if we knew that the IE would only apply to one of us we would simply not have got it.

The only things that you loose out on are

The maps
The pledge of mara

Now the stuff that you pick up in the chests from the maps you can transfer to a different character on the same account by putting it in your bank. (the same as any bound items including armour)

All the rest of the items are account wide.

Mount, Pets, Imperial Class and the ability to change items to imperial look. All this stuff is applied to ALL your characters on the same account.

So basically your whole post is about the ring of mara. I know of 3 people who have used theirs. So I dont think its worthy of the time it took you to type your post.

Or maybe your angry that the imperial edition is only applied to a single account? Which I don't think would actually need to be stated.

I have taken a look at the adverts again, and its all pretty clear to me. I dont think they warrent the term "decietful" but maybe the fact that they have an age limit on the game should mean that anyone younger should NOT be allowed to buy it? This would clear up a lot of these issues

Ohhhhh and we didn't buy it from in game either when we had seperate accounts by the way. We preordered it as the IE. Of course I can't buy something on one account and expect it to automatically apply to an unrelated one, that'd be stupid of me.

As already told on Xbox One content purchased by one account can be used on the account's home console (only on this!) by ALL other accounts. The Explorer's Pack and Imperial Edition DLCs appear in the store as every other content. So you assum that it works as every other game's content does. Oh I'm not a young kid if that's what you're implying (although you're probably not), my brother is about 24 too. I have heard others state that not even the mounts and pets are available but then again you sound like you know from experience. My biggest concern is in fact the single account aspect, which in fact needed to be stated. We preordered the IE, if we bought it from the in game store it would be quite obvious that it only applies to one account. With all the universally applied dlc for consoles any single account content is usually specifically noted. For us, it was just like buying a season pass or such, except this time it wasn't shared.
