I guess most posters here forget that you cannot count on your observations ingame. Because we are still instanced. Or why do you think that it still happens that you have to travel to player even though you are at the same wayshrine? Its just not that obvious because the megaserver tries to put you close to the people in your contact list... Or so it often seems.

Public zones, regular "world", are not instanced UNLESS you're on different factions. Which there are 3.

    Just FYI.

ofc they are instanced, or do you think it would be fun to start a char if there are 1000, 10000, 100000 Player doing the same?

    no they're not.

if you're in a megaserver, if you start on the same faction, you WILL see each other.

    that's the whole idea.

but yes, see above, there are "chanelling" and other stuff... or phasing... that is similar and that's how certain quests work.

k let me think back to pre Load. Lets assume 10k Players EU or NA preloaded the game, 10k / 3 = 3,3k Players each fraction.
so there would be for SURE atleast 1,5k Player starting the game at the same time (other have to work watever).

Sry i didnt saw 1,5k Player in auridon, and you?

i think you dont get the "megaserver-conecept" right.

    there we go http://www.tesoelite.com/2013/04/elder-scrolls-online-mega-server-explained/

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying at all lol but perhaps that's my fault.

Yes, that article is correct. There's phasing. Especially for starting zone. But most areas, such as world zone, you can see HUNDREDS of players in, say, Stonefalls' major city.

The whole phasing thing kicks in where it doesn't make sense to have everyone running the same "quest".

So yes, if you're EP, and I'm EP, and we want to meet, 99% of the time you won't have to "travel to me". We just simply meet. It won't be in a different "layer".

you dont really 'need' the numbers, if your friends wanne play an other mmo, and they like what they see from vids and such, they should give it a try, otherwise not, theres still many players so no lack of finding preople to do dung/trials with, the amount of players will not change the fact if someone likes the mechanics/questings and such
and lastly there is no knowing of the amount of players,
but if u want a number: 268549.2, there ya go,, have fun with it

But still the server has a treshhold wath max ppl can join world 1,2,3 of each region, and then every world can be splittet in different phases.

so lets take the biggest city imho, carg, do you rly think there are in primetime just 20/30 ppls at the same time in and run around, well if it is so we could shut the server down....

Let's try to make an estimate based on some data:

    • According to Compete.com Analytics forums.elderscrollsonline.com saw 138,424 unique visitors in March 2015. From USA Data only. We will multiply this by 54.6% to account for Europe / Rest of World (75580), in accordance with Alexa.com Analytics and add the result to the US Data value to come to a total rouded result of 214,003 Unique Visitors
I will estimate that 75% of these people are active players since they are browsing the Forums.

    My estimate: 160,502

    • The ESO Subreddit has 45,374 as of May 20, 2015.
I will estimate that 65% of these people are active players considering some people may subscribe on throwaway accounts or only used Reddit for ESO Subreddit at the Game's launch or just stayed subscribed even though they no longer play

    My Estimate: 29,493

    • TamrielFoundry
Since this is a site dedicated to builds, guides and all things ESO, I will assume that 90% of the 74,977 March 2015 Unique Vistors are active players

    My Estimate: 67,480

    Important:
Now I am also going to assume based on the Graphs and Data provided by these websites which evidently show these websites gaining popularity around the time the game went B2P, March 2015 that a lot of these visitors were considering purchasing the game so these values are extremely skewed.

Buuut we're just gonna roll with it for now...
The average result would be an active player value of 85,825
The summation of these values would be 257,475.
This doesn't account for people such as myself who visit / have accounts on all 3 sites.

Also, the players that use these websites at all must be only a fraction of the overall playerbase.
So we can probably multiply the 85k value by something estimatable value. Perhaps based on other MMOs and their forum / playerbase ratio if we could find out.

This is admitedly a poor evaluation in terms of actual research and statistics but for the 15 minutes I spent doing this I think it might give a rough idea and hopefully allow others to give it a go at calculating the player value also.

here are some easily attainable number:
The game had 772,000 subscribers in June 2014 according to SuperData Research.[39] It was later reported in October 2014 by the same company that the game had generated around $111 million in subscription revenue, indicating that the game had about 1.2 million subscribers around that point.[citation needed]

As of April 3, 2015, the game has sold about 150,000 copies on Steam

you do realize that the number of mmorpg players that actively engage in forum activities is a single-digit percentage, right?

that's not a number i pulled out of my hiney, either. google the research. i have been tempted to link it for people but i enable enough lazy turds at work i don't need to at home.

I don't mean to necro an older thread (2wks...) but I just have to say it:

We need something powerful to attract new players, not just bring back older ones. It is my personal mission to "recruit" 1 or 2 players each month. If we can increase the revenue stream I think we can push for faster DLC and better fixes for the game.
We desperately need a recruit a friend program, or a TRY IT FREE weekend for all new players.
I really think the negative reviews are a roadblock for players on the wall about purchasing the $60 game client.

This is a quote from the most recent new post on eso's website. elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2015/06/11/esotu-console-launch-update

"At launch, millions of players around the world were eager to explore Tamriel. "

This is in reference to the console launch. What i take from this is that there are millions just on console. and most likely millions on pc... But, who knows.
