I hope the developers re-think this decision.
Aside from the fact this is mostly due to PS+/ XBL policies it would also cause a significant amount of over-crowding/ lag.
Maybe overcrowding for consoles but I doubt it for PC. In fact, the console launch is likely going to cannibalize the PC population to an extent that it may not recover from. Think about it. The PC version has been out well over a year so most PC players that were interested are already playing. Add to that the the B2P launch has already happened so anyone who was interested but was not playing due to pay model has likely started playing (or will have by the time console launches). You could safely assume that the PC population has for all intents and purposes plateaued. Add in the fact that a good chunk of people will be transferring to console from PC and that means a reduction of PC players that won't be easily replaced.
I would love to see your facts behind this assessment...
What did I say that you think is in dispute? It's pretty much common knowledge that people are transferring from PC to console. How many is still unknown but do you really expect a huge influx of PC players *after* console launch? Seems highly unlikely.
I highly doubt you'll be seeing "a good chunk of people" transferring to the console. I guess that depends on your definition of "a good chunk." From PC (text chat, addons, superior graphics/performance, invested hundreds of hours) to the extremely limited console... yeah I don't think so. You'll see the console kiddies head that direction, but that's about it. Sorry @NewBlacksmurf @Heromofo I still love ya though
I agree that the amount is debatable but realize that many console players who would have purchased that version had it released with PC ended up buying PC versions with the sole purpose of transferring over when it became available. I don't think it will be 50 or even 30% of the PC population but with the PC population flat or decreasing..even 5, 10 or 15% would be a noticeable loss and contribute to future population issues on PC. Many complain already about many zones being empty.
The way me and my mates see it that the pc version was a year long beta test for the consoles. So the console version is the final product and its time to get into it. I am not bothered i bought a ps4 and paid for a ps4 transfer. I love my pc but i love the consoles as well having most of em already. We figure the consoles will be the main priority and its best to just follow the heard.

Basically, for me personally? If there is no way to communicate with someone, I'd rather not play with them.

Yeah thats strange isnt it? I mean wouldnt be fair pairing up paralympics with regular olympics either. Two different things just not meant to be togheter. Same problem between console vs pc. PC players are too powerful.

You are thinking ten years ago XBox and PS/3. Get with the current technology.
If guilds start thinning out in the PC version after console launch . . .

what is dumb is that internet posters with zero business experience think that this is the fault of the game publisher.
the last game to allow cross platform play was final fantasy XI. you can do your own googling after that.
tell you what you can go google... but I will play nice. Even though you don't really deserve it.

What is also dumb is when people do not do research at all about games, then act like they are experts.
ff14 is cross platform between PS4 and PC, and It is belived they are TRYING to do the same with DCUO. Sony never seems to have issues with cross platform between their consoles and PC. It is only when it involves microsft do they have issues, and even then, from the sounds of this, Sony would have been fine with it, and it was MS that refused to do it.
this was never going to be cross-platform, ever.

Also the consul players don't play together either the console is separate from the other
DCUO is in the process of amalgamating the PC and PS communities. FF online games are all cross -platform. This lame excuse from developers that the "infrastructure" or whatever might be the excuse-of-the-day hinders cross platforming is becoming increasingly transparent. It can be done, and successfully. If anything it increases revenue and keeps the community alive rather than fracturing it.
I wouldn't be surprised if they merged the servers in a year or so and made it cross platform. A loss of revenue could do just that.
