Friend today informed me that console players will not be able to play with PC users. If this is true it's pretty dumb.

I hope the developers re-think this decision.

Aside from the fact this is mostly due to PS+/ XBL policies it would also cause a significant amount of over-crowding/ lag.

Maybe overcrowding for consoles but I doubt it for PC. In fact, the console launch is likely going to cannibalize the PC population to an extent that it may not recover from. Think about it. The PC version has been out well over a year so most PC players that were interested are already playing. Add to that the the B2P launch has already happened so anyone who was interested but was not playing due to pay model has likely started playing (or will have by the time console launches). You could safely assume that the PC population has for all intents and purposes plateaued. Add in the fact that a good chunk of people will be transferring to console from PC and that means a reduction of PC players that won't be easily replaced.

I would love to see your facts behind this assessment...

What did I say that you think is in dispute? It's pretty much common knowledge that people are transferring from PC to console. How many is still unknown but do you really expect a huge influx of PC players *after* console launch? Seems highly unlikely.

I highly doubt you'll be seeing "a good chunk of people" transferring to the console. I guess that depends on your definition of "a good chunk." From PC (text chat, addons, superior graphics/performance, invested hundreds of hours) to the extremely limited console... yeah I don't think so. You'll see the console kiddies head that direction, but that's about it. Sorry @NewBlacksmurf @Heromofo I still love ya though :)

I agree that the amount is debatable but realize that many console players who would have purchased that version had it released with PC ended up buying PC versions with the sole purpose of transferring over when it became available. I don't think it will be 50 or even 30% of the PC population but with the PC population flat or decreasing..even 5, 10 or 15% would be a noticeable loss and contribute to future population issues on PC. Many complain already about many zones being empty.

The way me and my mates see it that the pc version was a year long beta test for the consoles. So the console version is the final product and its time to get into it. I am not bothered i bought a ps4 and paid for a ps4 transfer. I love my pc but i love the consoles as well having most of em already. We figure the consoles will be the main priority and its best to just follow the heard. :D

I'd rather not have to encounter someone who was restricted to no text chat communication, when there is no VOIP option here in this game to communicate.

Basically, for me personally? If there is no way to communicate with someone, I'd rather not play with them.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Yep...I choose not to unless it's very clear that they can hear and play as such. It's not always important for them to talk back

Yeah I was heartbroken to hear this too. I understand people have lag concerns with Cyrodiil but I also think having more players in the gaming world is always a plus.

They will never be able to play together. Console-players are usually far behind when it comes to actual gamer skills and only slows pc players down.

And to think, people call PC players "elitist."

Yeah thats strange isnt it? I mean wouldnt be fair pairing up paralympics with regular olympics either. Two different things just not meant to be togheter. Same problem between console vs pc. PC players are too powerful.

You are thinking ten years ago XBox and PS/3. Get with the current technology.

If guilds start thinning out in the PC version after console launch . . .

Really? Ten years ago, eh? So...you can use either an XBone or Piss4 to make PC games?

Didn't think so. PC's still create console games and THAT is what makes them superior.

"But I can play my console on my huge TV!!"

    News flash:

You can hook a PC up to that very same TV.

Get with the current technology, why don't you?

what is dumb is that internet posters with zero business experience think that this is the fault of the game publisher.

the last game to allow cross platform play was final fantasy XI. you can do your own googling after that.

What is also dumb is when people do not do research at all about games, then act like they are experts.

ff14 is cross platform between PS4 and PC, and It is belived they are TRYING to do the same with DCUO. Sony never seems to have issues with cross platform between their consoles and PC. It is only when it involves microsft do they have issues, and even then, from the sounds of this, Sony would have been fine with it, and it was MS that refused to do it.

this was never going to be cross-platform, ever.

Irony is when you started this thread when the info on the subject has been out for 2 years, but then you suggest to someone that they should use google about facts on another game...

ffxiv and dcuo are cross platform pc and ps3/4. ffxi was the only game to interact on all three platforms.

the tech is easily doable. trion worlds showcased it with defiance before that game released at E3. but sony will not allow Microsoft interaction and Microsoft will not allow sony interaction. not anymore.

Microsoft would allow cross platform between xbox and pc - but there are no pc games that are only released to xbox and not also to playstation. and then when you think about the xbox exclusives which could be candidates for pc+xbox you are talking almost entirely fps and tps games, where that mouse+keyboard would have an immediate edge over the controller scrubs.

Microsoft really wants their xbox system to be it's own thing, whereas sony has no qualms about it being a companion or extension to the pc gaming experience.

ye cross platform would make this game so much more popular i would love to play ESO with all my friends on the ps4, War Thunder is a cross-platform and FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn is cross-platform this would make ESO the best ever cross-platform game ever made IMO !

Hardly dumb IMO to split the player base, I can imagine that a good number of players from either side of the pond would not like to connect to a server that is far away, e.g I am in the UK and would not want to connect to the NA server, (no offence), and I would imagine that it would be the same for many on the NA side.

Not to mention a number of issues that would drive people insane, like OTT competing for mats, or my personal favourite being worse

    The lag....

And then PvP would be a utter nightmare.

    Ah well.

And about console players with PC players, sorry no, you would get utterly dominated in PvP.

PC Master Race ftw, the only thing I am elitist about.

Cos lets face it, KB n mouse will dominate controller anytime.

Also the consul players don't play together either the console is separate from the other

DCUO is in the process of amalgamating the PC and PS communities. FF online games are all cross -platform. This lame excuse from developers that the "infrastructure" or whatever might be the excuse-of-the-day hinders cross platforming is becoming increasingly transparent. It can be done, and successfully. If anything it increases revenue and keeps the community alive rather than fracturing it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they merged the servers in a year or so and made it cross platform. A loss of revenue could do just that.

I checked DCUO's official home page. They have separate servers still. They've been talking about it on their forums, true. But you also have people who don't like the idea of cross-platform servers (most often console players complaining about the advantage PC players have over them; macros, sticky keys, botting, sharper reticule interfacing, and so on or PC players complaining that the digital representations of enemy players are smaller than those played on a console [larger screen]).

FF does have crossplatform play, but it's only between PC and PS. Xbone isn't in the equation. So we can't consider that one for this scenario as it's not an exact example of how it would work.

In fact, looking into it, Xbone cannot support a cross-platform server at all (even between current Windows PC players) until Microsoft finishes work and distributes Windows 10, which they state will be their last OS ever. Lastly, Xbone and PS will not likely ever consider supporting cross platforming between even those two consoles in the foreseeable future because they are in heavy competition with each other.

Don't blame game devs for something that is out of their control. It's embarrassing.
