What is the proper way to use /Feedback?

Question for a member of the Moderation Team:

If we wish to suggest something that is on the forum via /feedback, what is the proper method?
  • Should we copy/paste the body of posts into /feedback?
or
  • Should we paste the URL of the thread into /feedback?

For example, I would like to suggest that we get a consumable, functional torch item using /feedback. How do I effectively convey the below information?

We have discussed it before but there hasn't been a thread dedicated to it.

The mechanics for torches already exist in game. The /torch emote produces a torch that is functional. A slight tweak to the radius and intensity of the torches and they will be ready to go for dungeon delving. To accommodate this, darker nights and darker delves would be a good idea.

Torches should be acquired through the following means:
  • NPC Merchant
  • Looted from containers
  • Pulled from sconces
  • Crown Store Torch Pack

Torches could eventually be added as a Craft-able item but this wouldn't be necessary. Other Elder Scrolls Games didn't allow Torches to be crafted so ESO could follow suit. There could be different torches of differing quality.

Torch Qualities
  • Duration of flame
  • Radiance of flame

Torch Types
  • Junk: Radiance the same as the current Torch Emote. 30 second duration.
  • Normal: Radiance twice as powerful as Junk Torch. 30 second duration.
  • Fine: Radiance twice as powerful as Junk Torch. 60 second duration.
  • Rare: Radiance twice as powerful as Normal Torch. 60 second duration.
  • Epic: Radiance twice as powerful as Normal Torch. 120 second duration.
  • Legendary: Radiance twice as powerful as Rare torch. 180 second duration.

Torches packs purchased from the Crown Store should be those of Legendary quality.

Torches should be able to be equipped as a one-handed weapon. This way, a player could wield a sword and torch, a torch and shield, or just a torch by itself.

The bottom image would be the Legendary Torch.

Thoughts?

Bethesda started playing with darkness in Morrowind. They did amazingly in Oblivion and Skyrim. Players loved it.
ZOS comes along and says, "Nah."

I would love to see even one or two pitch black caves in this game. It would be a great mechanic if one player needed to keep a torch out lest your group get mauled from out of the darkness.

Thanks @ZOS_AlanG! I was always under the impression that we should /feedback suggestions also. I haven't made a habit of doing so with what I post and really wanted to suggest torches.... i miss torches.

You do know that ZeniMax Media has been around since 1999 and has been developing Bethesda products since then right?

While that is true, Zenimax Online Studios was created in 2007 with the sole purpose of creating Elder Scrolls Online. Zenimax Media also owns Bethesda, the developers of the other Elder Scrolls games. ZOS has exactly one product: ESO.

ZM created ZOS... It's a ZM subsidiary. The only thing that changed in 2007 was that they hired @ZOS_MattFiror. Given his expertise used in DAOC, I hardly see this as a negative thing.

That is a valid point @c.p.garrett1993_ESO. I have no idea how /feedback is managed.

I didn't mean to imply it was a negative, sorry if the post came across as such.

It's possible that the developers considered the need for torches and lighting to be an unnecessary complication to the game play.

There were a lot of features that were deemed unnecessary as this was being morphed from an extremely immersive single player experience into a full-blown MMORPG, subscription and all.

In a single player game, players can choose whatever immersive settings they like and are comfortable with. What bothers me about these types of propositions (and similar items like the difficulty slider) is when you force these things on the masses.

I'd love to see people carrying torches, but I'd also like to see this as a simple option rather than a complete change in gameplay. If they change the lighting as @Gidorick is requesting for every player, they need to provide the option of reverting back to what is expected from a MMORPG.

That's right. Like they didn't expect people to want to sit in chairs.

@nastuug, that's like suggesting a way to opt out of champion points. it would be an evolution of the environment... I do have a couple ideas that may appease those that do not want to use torches. I'm going to post that on a separate thread as its not directly related to torches.

Are you comparing the addition and functionality of Champion Levels to that of torches? :|

I'm simply stating that not every feature added need to have an "opt out" function. There's just not much to choose from since ESO has been light on the updates. Heheh.

By that logic, /feedback gets 0 attention. Just because something isn't responded to doesn't mean it isn't getting attention. If a dev posted in every thread they read, every thread would have a Z next to it and it would lose complete meaning.
