ZoS,I am dissapointed (Text chat on consoles)

ZoS,Please listen to this,I have been supporting you since the beta,Been giving feedback to the game and overall enjoyed the game,Loving the game. Been excited for the console release,But as soon as i heard there werent any text chat in the console versions i felt so let down,Why? why in oblivion would you do this? This is an MMO for vehks sake,Dont give console players a dumbed down version,The arguments that text chat doesnt work on console is just silly,Why wouldnt it work? everyone have a keyboard and they can use textchat on other MMOs on console,I feel like ESO community wont be the same as the pc ones if it doesnt have text chat,The voice chat seems cool,Yeah.

But text chat is a must for every MMO out there,I just cant believe it.. Please listen to us ZoS,Its not just me who is upset over this, Dont remove a social aspect from a game that is already lacking social aspects. Removing text chat removes so much from the game...

Final fantasy does an excellent job on Ps4,it even has crossplay which i hoped ESO would have (but i understand it isnt that easy when tis realeased both on ps4 and Xb1 so its not a huge problem, would just be something amazing to have ) And it supports text chat,so does every other console mmo.
Console players is not against text chat,i hope you realise that.

Everything else looks fine with the console version,i am still looking forward it but i hope you realie that it was a huge mistake to remove text chat.

Bad design idea. Isn't it that most console players don't own a headset for it? There are also mute players. There's no way for these ppl to communicate.

There have to be a text chat. Even if its just a basic one.

I seriously doubt most Console players do not have a mic. At the very worst most of us have... bare minimum.... the mic that came with our console. Which having both ps4 and xbox one i can attest to both having really cheap mics in the box that while not great do absolutely work.

That said i know of no one that plays multiplayer games as multiplayer games that does not actively use their mics. They may not always use them but they do have them

Don't worry, disappointment is just starting.
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Fair enough then. Never owned any consoles and prolly never going to.

But I agree that you need a text chat. For like zone, guildchat etc. LFG gonna be non existent or a pure struggle without. Also as I said. There are also mute people playing the game.

Do most console players actually have a keyboard for their console?

I mean, yeah you could use the onscreen keyboard, but you're not going to be exactly fast with that, even with predictive text.

Not having text chat is like tearing a hole in the game, unless you get spammed by chat invites off random people, and only 8 can be allowed in a voice chat (PS4) so without this element how will players communicate with each other? its tearing a hole in the traders, looking for groups, everything. I love the game on PC but to hear of this being taken out of console is a big negative.

Every xbox owner should should have a headphone with a mike because they comes with the console. Now I know on xbox one you can party chat and you can use the voice chat that is in game. You also have messages via mail which we can send text and vocal text and you send this to any player in game because their gamertag is attach to their character.
So I think there are plenty of options to communicate.

I've been labelled for commenting on this topic but anyways...many make a lot of great points for why they want it but it's not necessary considering the majority of reasons tend to surround people's choices to avoid using certain systems already in the game.

How about asking for a voice trade channel, lfg channel and whatever else

I'm not 100% against having it but 99% against having text chat channels due to the garbage that seems to come with those text chat options.

Let's just imagine...recruiting for a trading guild without text chat....to get 50 people to just be able to bid on a guild store trader...yea..goodbye economy, no way it's going to work without text chat.

How are you going to communicate in a guild of 500? Voice? Yea...right. Good luck with that.

Or how about Cryodiil without text chat....how you gonna know where the attacks are? How you gonna get a group invite when in Cryodiil?

This is going to be a solo game, with multiplayer elements like group finder dungeons and proximity co-op. Far from a MMO where you can buy and sell goods by interacting with the community in game.

Well I just find it strange. I appreciate that this game isn't as hand holding as a bunch of other mmos. But if I wanted to be immersed in my own world or with just a few people in private chat. I have offline rpgs for that on PSN.

Can't play with other people and communicate unless you are on the same server and same system. Can't type to other people unless on PC and they play on PC. Can't see any stats precisely on PC without add-ons and not at all on consoles.
You have to guess on locations for important things like skyshards or lorebooks unless you have an add-on or google it. Then there are the gameplay issues like lag, graphical hiccups, quest being lost or not starting.

It seems at every turn. Players are being driven apart, in a genre that is supposed to foster community(communion)not separation and isolation. All because of money of the powers that be or this notion of immersion. Almost like Zeni doesn't want to draw in a larger amount of players just hardcore fans.

I agree with all of that. Everything you mentioned and many other multiplayer aspects of the game that will be severely diminished due to lack of appropriate communication, will only continue to further blur the distinction of what ESO is supposed to be. Because without zone chat, guild chat, and group chat, it certainly isn't an MMO.

Even the RPers will get the shaft because they can't /say or enen /emote.

This has disaster written all over it, both for console and PC players because now zos will be forced to split their resources in two in order to deal with issues that are platform dependant.

Can you imagine using the lfg tool, getting a pug for a vet dungeon or DSA, and not being able to even explain the fights. Man this is a terrible terrible idea for so many reasons.

Lol - To read this thread, one would think that the only form of communication is the text window of a game. No voice comm or guild websites, mobile apps or access to any other forms of online voip or messaging.

I'm playing the beta. Grouping. Chatting. PvP.

Not a single problem, whatsoever. It plays just like every other multiplayer game I have on the Xbox One, and every game I have seems to be multiplayer. I'm even joining guilds and yesterday a guildie organized an event.

Sometimes MMO players forget that the world of multiplayer is no longer defined by them.

Even caught two cats in a tavern roleplaying.

He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

This is an multiplayer game. I should be able to log in, join a dungeon, join a battleground, queue for a dolmen or world boss or delve, teleport in, play for 20 minutes, and not worry about getting kicked, failing to join, having perfect voice coms, or being unable to complete content because someone's lagging behind. Group Finder and matchmaking is broken. Take a note from Destiny and build a system that allows from drop-in/drop-out functionality and quick play.

Guys, console isn't even released yet. They might be able to squeeze in a chat system before launch, but chances are they have every week planned out now, and don't have any time to make any major changes before release. If they happen to find less bugs than they had planned, and other things go far more smoothly, and find a small window of time, they might start development on it.

After release, if it's still a major gameplay issue, they will add it in. Remember the outcry for textbubbles? And they eventually gave us that?

So really, just chill for a minute. There's nothing that can be done now.

Understand, I'm expressing my honest belief in how this is going to work, as a veteran of not just MMO's, but consoles in the last three generations.

    - Trading Guild Recruiting. Old way, spam zone chats, or word of mouth from current members inviting a few good crafters. New way, posts on ESO forums, or word of mouth from current members inviting a few good crafters. Outcome? Less annoying to players in-game, more likely to get players looking specifically for trading guilds, also probably do more recruiting from word of mouth than either spam or forums.

    - Guilds of 500? Guild voice chat for those online, as most people will never see more than a third of that online at any one time. Larger guilds will have dedicated forums to send messages or transfer policy information. Guild MOTD will become more important.

    - Cyrodiil? Attacks and scrolls are highlighted on the map, even on PC. Looking for Group tool works. PvP guilds will communicate via guild voice to those interested, and we may notice group commanders hanging out to switch between group voice and local voice, coordinating bigger attacks. Zerging may be penalized a little, as players on console may seek out smaller fights instead of there only being one fight on the whole map.

I agree that this will be a single-player focused game (already is with the method of story and phasing) with pick-up elements in the open world (dolmens, public dungeons) and limited small-group interaction (regular dungeons, epic dungeons, trials, arena, etc).

But I think this is already the case, and exactly what ZOS designed, and that players have tried to make it a more traditional MMO, with a lot of failure.

It will almost entirely revolve around players of like playstyles putting each other on their friends list. This usually works when you do a pick-up group and someone is chatty or friendly and a decent player. The silent, uncommunicative one's usually don't get friended in my experience.

There will still be trading guilds. There will be first-person sales, but more likely players will have a 'sales forum' somewhere that sees the most 'I need this crafted' content. There will still be PvP guilds. But the Friends List will be a cornerstone of activity, as is standard on Consoles.

I don't think Consoles will have any issue at all enjoying the full breadth of this game without ever needing a keyboard. But I already play Console games that are just as complex and task-intensive as any MMO, so I know how those things are accomplished.

Playstation players have DCOU and FF to give them their experience of MMO's on Consoles, but Xbox ... well, we have a lot of great multiplayer games, and never a need otherwise.

You can ignore chat on PC in Neverwinter, too.

To my great dismay, you can't ignore it on Xbox.

To the real point, on PC the game only supports keyboard chat. This prime function forces players to use this feature, which is standard on PC's, and thus it's something we all rely on. When, or better if, voice chat is every put into the PC, it will be a back-end and only used to a limited degree, and thus when a console convert switches over, they will find the voice system lacking and underused according to how they see it.

In the consoles, the prime function forces players to use voice chat, which is standard on consoles, and thus is something they will rely on. If a keyboard is added, it will see little use by dedicated console gamers, and those PC converts will feel it's a broken function or needs 'buffed'.

DCUO or FF are two examples for PS users, but on Xbox the PC migrants are already complaining about the Neverwinter keyboard chat not being a big enough focus and groups not forming in the traditional way. Traditional console gamers are playing how they know, and converts aren't happy with this focus on voice chat and ignoring the zone chat spam.

The moral of the story? By adding keyboard chat, which is a useful function and I'm not particularly against as long as I have the option to turn it off completely (and the chat box, just like on PC), the developers would be helping split the community further between the PC players and the Console players. By limiting it to voice only, not only are they avoiding the issue of making the text large enough to be read from across the room by players who are not sitting two feet from the TV/Monitor, but they are in essence forcing ALL players to unite and communicate in the same way.

Maybe not the best reasoning, but it's the one I understand.

The voice chat works really, really well. If they do add keyboard chat, I hope they do it through a compantion app on smarphones, or at best, it's off by default (just like voice chat is ON by default). Options are nice. Just don't make us have to have it up because it's definitely not necessary.

He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.

Based on a limited amount of ppl testing in BETA, it went well.
I made a long post in the beta forums about my position.

I think and through many discussions it's a lot of valid concerns and great points why people would like text chat added but....I still feel personally that not adding it drives a very different and socially engaging experience that will never happen if it's added in any form.

Many times we forget we are in Tamriel at a time before cell phones, email, etc.
I'm totally up for a new engaging voice only experience that will drive the use of the base systems in the game and also create brand new awesome social interactions and experiences.

Ppl will adapt and make it work...It's definitely a shock but I'm open to it and supporting ZOS on this

    * not saying some social tweaks won't be needed down the road tho
