Racial Passive Ideas

I'm not a fan of having to pick a specific race to get the most out of a class. I don't agree that any race can be as good as any other at any particular class. Some of the racial passives are far superior to others. But I digress, I'm not here to argue about that. 1 of the 2 following ideas would be a better way to "play as you want". Leaving the race you pick a purely cosmetic choice. Yes, I know they're adding Race change to the crown store...eventually. But this still is a better way to do it.

Idea A
1. Change the name of the skill line from Racial to "Maturation"
2. Make all the former racial passives available to all characters in the newly named skill line
3. You only get to pick 4 of them at a time though to max out as you level up with the final point still being available at Level 50/VR 1

Idea B
1. Get rid of the Racial Passives Skill line altogether and add all the passives to the Constellations for Champion Point distribution.

Eh, Racial differences are a TES tradition. I for one wouldn't like to see characters being able to cherry-pick whatever best supports their build - that's what champoin points are for.

Though it might be better if the passives were a little more balanced... some things are practically worthless in the long run (all those "faster advancement in -weapon/armor- skill for example) and then you look at some other race and go green with envy (no disrespect towards orsimerintended) at seeing they get maybe some stanima boost instead... I can understand people going there. But regardless, I wouldn't want any of the OP suggestions, I'd rather have some alterations to the current stuff, make it more useful in all situations... for example, if those "faster learning" stuff instead gave an armor/damage bonus... (or critical hit/resistence)

Eh, Racial differences are a TES tradition.

And I get sick of hearing that because it's not entirely truthful when applied to this game.

Yes, TES games have always had racial differences, however aside from active skills such as voice of the empire these are only differences in the stats you start out with.

Sure, I can pick a Nord and get 140 hp and 80 Stamina, or an Imperial and get 110 for both. It makes no difference at end game.

Races completely defining what your character can do and is good at is unique to ESO.

True, some of it was merely the starting skill boni. And then some abilities, like dunmer ghostcalling, orc berserking, argonians waterbreathing, or khajiit seeing in the dark...
But also, don't forget the resistance stuff too though... that always remained, even once you maxed your skills and attributes.

And those things are the ones I would least want to miss... nords being cold-resistent, dunmer flame-resistent, etc. I guess some fo the abilities got reworked into passives...

Another thing I always enjoiyed was how some races are said to excel at magic (Breton, Altmer) while others were known to have the advantage in battle prowess (Redguard, Orc, Nord)...

So, its not unique to ESO. Though ESO may have aggrivated it a bit too much, that would be debatable...

I can't see them getting rid of racials, nor would I want them to. I actually enjoy the added element of customization in the numbers when creating a character.

I also can't see them throwing all racial effects into a pool and letting people pick. That would just be mental. You'd get 3 or 4 cookie cutters that everyone would use and 90% of the effort would be wasted.

The point of the racials being the way they are is to diversify race selections. Each faction was balanced to have a good magic race, a good melee race, and some other hybrid or a mutant 90's Godzilla swim factor that is supposedly useful in any way. Aside from the travesty that is Argonian racial balance, the current system is actually pretty sweet.

I was ok with it until they changed some skills to morph into stamina based and changed some of the passives in 1.6. As it stands now, I have an alt or two that are maxed in crafting that I will not level because the race doesn't jive with the class anymore. That is the problem. But like I said, I know race change is coming to the crown store.

I have a better idea. explain how your idea needs it's own thread to basically say the same thing many others have tried to argue. Everyone feels the need to create their own thread on an old tired subject.

And no, I disagree with you. Besides tweaking some racials, I think it is great they CONTINUE TES lore and have racial passives. Have always thought having a difference between races made the game interesting. Just because you think something should be plain old vanilla, does not mean the masses will agree with you.

Choose spice over plain old vanilla gaming systems.

I made a thread arguing for the same thing essentially. Make race cosmetic and then have people pick from a pool of passives.

The racial choices people made over a year ago are so far removed from the realities of the current bonuses they are receiving that it renders their choice practically meaningless.

It is more offensive to me to allow someone to change their race than simply changing their passives. Does it bother you that there could be a Khajiit or Argonian with Imperial passives? It would bother me more if I saw an Imperial running around with an obviously Argonian sounding name.

I would like them to significantly dumb them down so they are race defining but not a must have.

Any changes that would break lore don't bother me. Having bad racial passives now because they changed the way abilities morph is a much bigger problem.

Ha, I dont get it either. Why are we comparing MMO's to single player games where you can 1 shot dragons, levitate and have all the NPC ladies run around naked.

There's no need for balance in single player games. Literally nothing matters actually and especially not your race. You can change it in one console command.
