SO...is it pay to win?

No. It is definetly not pay to win. They're not selling any sets or stronger items. Selling motifs via Crown Store is fine. Achievements like that are unimportant anyway.

I'd go even further. If I were Zenimax, I'd implement some achievements that can only be achieved if you buy stuff from the shop. Like buying x amount of mini-pets, mounts in the store and then you'd get like 10 points and a dye. I mean, why not? It unlikely that people will start buying them just because of the new achievement (even though some might), but it would just show that your purchases are being appreciated and rewarded with symbolic rewards.

Honestly, I'm getting pretty excited about ZOS' business plan. I assume they will keep filling the store with new stuff every few weeks up until the console release. So we're getting barber shop and stuff like that pretty soon, imo. After that, I hope, the newest items in the store will be DLCs.

Its a huge downer for some people that I know that farmed their way to getting these motifs, but since their bound I dont see any harm in this. Opens up some new looks that you would otherwise have to wait for, and saves some ingame gold for pieces of gear.

I dont know. ZOS always said they would put time savers in the crown store. This is clearly a time save.

I am annoyed because achievements take a long time to get. I literally had to buy everything with gold as they never dropped for me though.

I am relieved because the drop rate was so crap and the RNG was so broke that I never ever got 1 to drop. So in this sense its good.

At the end of the day I would rather not dumb down achievement and have the damn RNG and DROP RATES fixed. But you could always buy this stuff in game anyway. So what does it matter if you use crown gold or in game gold ?

[My only reservation is ZOS can control the drop rates control rarity and price. So this is as close to price fixing as it could possibly get]

In contrast......Can you buy XP with ingame gold ?

the moment potions were in the store, in any forum, the game was Pay to win.

im at least grateful that so far nothing in that aspect has been equal or lesser than anything you would get easily via normal play.

If you are too cheap to pay the sub, then you hardly have a voice on what goes into the crown store

If you dont like the game, then dont play. Dont sit there playing something you dont like and think its some kind of "statement" on your behalf. Really thats a pretty sad place to be.

This is not pay to win, it is cosmetic only.

That said, if I were ZOS, I would have started out with the basic racial motifs first, then added the rare and top end ones later. I would have also made the latter ones a recurring limited time to encourage the sense of "need it now" that would spur sales.

I would have made the motifs the same as the ones in the game. Either all the motifs are usable at crafting Rank 1 or all of them follow the current rank restrictions.

There is some sadness as a god steps in and takes a cut. They are actually selling for 5000 crowns the rarest item in the game, by their own admission. I would not put the Dwemer all-in-one motif in the store at all, and certainly not for 5000 crowns. But, gods rarely have people in mind when they act.
