Ok so with crafting patterns now in the crown store and collecting them give achievements do you consider this a form of pay to win?

Not pay to win but cheap, very cheap on ZOS' part. It'll directly affect the value of motifs in game and should never have been done.

    No.
Now, if they start selling a Greatsword of smite Foes that let you kill any boss in-game in only one hit for 10 000 crowns - THAT will be pay to win. Or armour that makes you invincible, that stuff.

Yes. The achievements unlock Dwarven Brass and Motif Master Brown. The two dyes are so shiny that they stop being merely cosmetic and increase the miss chance of all attacks making a player with these dyes perform significantly better than one without.
    Spoiler
No. Achievements do not do anything other than make a player feel accomplished. People paying for a false sense of accomplishment is not the same as paying for an actual edge in game.

Cheap? Somewhat. Pay to Win? Nope. All the motifs do is make it so you can craft a different looking style of armour that has no additional benefit. Purely a cosmetic thing. Is it annoying to see as someone who has all the motifs and put the time, effort and gold into getting them? Absolutely. Do I agree with what ZOS have done, in some ways yes. Will I buy a motif from there? Only if the Imperial Daedric is on there.

Of course. All "cosmetic" offers in the crown store are P2W.
What do you think you are trying to win by playing? More gold and AP? Simply used for better gear. What are you going to do with better gear? Kill things faster for more gold and AP? Ultimately it ends in being able to get more interesting looking stuff for your character. MMOs are merely a dress-up game with a bunch of arbitrary hurdles between ou and your dress. Selling looks is P2W.

    I'm not sarcastic about this.

I hope this thread won't let any zos employee ragequit! If you think any cosmetics or motifs are pay-to-win plaese just leave and start playing games which are monetiesed by advertisment. If you count the comming motifs as anfair just keep subscribed and pay the price the game is worth and everyone can afford them within 3 months. I can also farm ingame some gold within 2-3 days and buy even the rarest motif aswell. So where is the Problem?

In my view the shop is till now, the fairest offer i ever saw since gw2. It is just standard as in any other mmo with an item-shop t there are offered items which saves you time. So yes you can save the time to search for the motifs or farm the gold for it. And yes you will be saving some time if the xp portions will come.

Of course you will need longer in the long run for all things in the game if you plan a 0$ eso budget. And of course those are the ones which wine the most about missing content and unfixed bugs. This "I-WANT-A-FREE-GAME-WITH-UPDATES-AND-NO-ADDS-WHERE-ANYONE-CAN-BUY-ANY-ADVANTAGES"-attidude is just out of touch with reality and a slap in the face of the developer telling their work is worth nothing.

How does this let you win? And what do you win?

    Nothing. so not P2W

I don't give a rat's hairy @ss about achievements, and even so it's still not p2w. It's cosmetic. You can look different, well whooptidoo.

@Zos, Good going. These are the things that make a crown store usefull.

Since they made the game free, there has to be some kind of income.

Powerfull weapons and 1 shot skills = no
Useless stuff = yes, but I won't buy it
Cosmetical stuff, rare motifs, or achievements for my part = yes. I would consider buying it

The Op obviously has some sense that this game is his right to play for free, and that someone else should be picking up the tab.

He/She probably expects to walk down a road and have it perfect, but not pay tax for the upkeep. I woldnt be suprised if he dosent buy his round in the pub (if/when he/she is old enough), expecting his mates to buy it for him/her.

Seriously, most people are cheap, I doubt many will bother with the unlimited subscripton so how else are Zenemax going to keep the servers open?

Im a master craftsman, got 100% in the achievments off my own back, im not making money from the skills, but purly supporting my guild members with them. Currently thats costing me 3-4 hundred K a week. I feel im am well placed to judge the point of having motifs on the crown store as being pay-to-win.

Not an advantage and not a sign of things to come. Purly cosmetic.

Anyway, noone ever wants the crappy dorf stuff, wish I could swap the hours I spent farming them for the chance to pay some crowns. Oh hang on!! I made more selling the motifs than I ever did making the sets to see which ones peolple would like to use.

It depends how you define "win".

How does anyone ever win in an MMO? There is no finish line.

We would be better talking about advantages and disadvantages.

Previously any crafter who could make a rare and in demand style had an economic advantage over one who did not. That advantage can now be levelled out with hard real world cash.

So it not pay to win as such - rather pay to have advantages within the game that you did not have previously.

Pay to progress might be a better term.

That would be true, but in reality, people only want a very few styles, and they arn't expensive to buy now. 50k gold gets you them in game. (actully, those that dont ask for Daedric or the very few ancient Elf heavy curasses want breton)

People are welcome to pay 5k crowns for something that an hours farming would get them.

If however a new style came out and was IMMEDIATLY availiable in the store, I would probably feel aggrieved. I think a time delay of a few months between availiablity ingame and on the crownstore is fine though.

It is pay to win, as you do not have to spend gold to buy them, you save time and can spend that time on getting experience and champ points. You can craft in styles to sell as well. You can use saved money to buy "martial " items or Kuta and tempers.

Its not a master weapon but it might as well be. I will continue to play without sub until CU goes beta in August.

There is no way on earth putting cosmetic items in the store is "pay to win." The outfit you're wearing doesn't change the way your character plays the game one bit. I suppose one could whine that some of the prices might go down from selling motifs, but it's a fluid economy. If the prices go down other things will adjust to make up for it.
