GAME CRASHING HAS RETURNED :(

Wow.... talk about the kitchen sink of changing everything in a computer to make a game playable when we are paying for a game that should be installed and then clicking launch to play......

Well going back to F2P as i cannot see paying for a game with this many issues.

Today, every 5 to 10 minutes the entire game becomes non interactive and boots with no error to the log in screen....

Hello @ZOS_MollyH, thanks for your response.
Unfortunately these fixes didn't resolve the problem. As well as the steps @Threemoons wrote. And I did everything "Known issues" thread says except Memtest - my RAM was bought this January, it's brand new, and I've played ESO with it for two months.
I wonder why are the crashes depending on DirectX version. D3D9 lets me play for some time (a short time still) and the D3D11 makes game crash either when loading the location either in seconds after loading finishes. There weren't any problems with games using DirectX 11 before.

Did you try the OpenGL fix?

Did you try the OpenGL fix?

I did after the very first few crashes on 1.6 patch. OpenGL loads the interface, but doesn't load all the graphic part. There is just a black screen, and I can only walk in plain darkness, seeing "E" button on something from time to time. And in 5 minutes the game crashes.

Folks, as an FYI, NVidia pushed down a new driver just a few days ago...things look OK/better with that new driver, you may want to try to do a clean install of that and lather/rinse/repeat...

AMD just released their new beta driver. Was hoping it'd fix this crashing problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Now I just seem to freeze, instead of crash...

If you freeze, try to find a way to make the vid driver timeout longer? Would that perhaps help?

I've crashed or froze over 20 times now in the past day. I was only able to send a crash report for like 5 of them, the other times it never popped up or I had to end the process. I wonder how many unreported crashes there are. I'm unsubscribing until this is fixed, cause support is no help.

Well, just downloaded the latest patch.

Hopefully this will fix the song and dance I have to go through to play. As of now, I have to sometimes reboot my machine because it randomly crashes my vid drivers on launch. Or my status bars disappear altogether.

Oh, and I still get the deformed login and cut screens.

Seriously, Zmax, get your act together please.

Glad I don't have to go through that much. I just get constant freezes and crashes. I've contacted support and all I get is nonsense about addons. They pass me around to like 5 different people and everyone of them says they can't do anything till I try the game without addons, but the problem is I've already tried not using addons, I even reinstalled the game (which took hours) and started it up fresh without any addons and the crashing/freezing persisted. I'm getting the feeling that this problem isn't gonna be fixed anytime soon, they're so adamant that it's the addons causing problems even when told differently.

This seems to be the typical ZOS answer these days... Addons, ISP, graphics drivers.... anything to keep you busy but not solving the issues

Yep, and they can't even blame the players' builds--people with brand-spanking new high end machines that could run Mission Control for the Mars missions are being crashed out.

    Just found this thread tonight.
I've been playing since Beta, and I've never experienced so many crashes during the entire year that I've experienced tonight
    (4/21/2015; 9:00 pm est).
I'm thinking, maybe their server is on the fritz. This is pretty awful. I love the game, but I think they might have broken something with all these patches that have come down the pike recently.

Ditto RE the crash reports--if you crash to a blackscreen, or freeze (which is my issue--total freezeups sometimes, need to control-alt-delete to unfreeze) then you won't get a bug report prompt. Also, the prompt boxes don't have any info in them anyway other than asking you what you were doing at the time of the crash.

Just returned to the game after year long break, and I seem to get the black screen crash where I can still hear the game but cant see it. Sent in a ticket and got a canned auto response.

Well with the console release, I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to sweep this under the rug. Not that they are, there's no gossip spreading here, Mr. Moderators.

This crashing issue has got to be fixed. In the time it takes me to travel (by horse....with Retreating Maneuvers up) from Alessia to Roebeck (Cyrodiil) I crashed out three times. It's getting ridiculous.

There are nights where I can play 4-5 hours without a single crash....then there are nights (more frequently as of late) that I crash every 5-10 minutes. Sometimes it happens while I'm in the midst of a fight...sometimes it happens when I'm just standing there. It's the single most frustrating thing about this game.

I just wanted to add that the random crashes on my rig with ESO have stopped 100% by changing the Power Management setting for ESO.exe in the Nvidia Control Panel from Adaptive to Prefer Maximum Performance. Not only that, but it also fixes random crashes in other games like Farcry 4.

    My specs:

    GPU: EVGA GTX980 ACX 2.0 (Driver 350.12)
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k 4.5GHz Water Cooled
OS: Windows Home Premium 7 64bit
    RAM: 2x 4GB HyperX DDR3

Thanks, I'll try anything at this point.

    From the patch notes:

    * Fixed a commonly-occurring issue after Update 6 was released, specifically affecting Windows 8, where your game could crash.

This could be the fix for this problem.

Some general purpose advice. The weather is getting warmer (at least in the northern hemisphere) so dust out your system and graphics card fans with compressed air.

Mmos and video games in general tend to run computers much hotter than typical web browsing or word processing. A 30-40°F swing in seasonal ambient temps can affect the stability of your system if your fans are clogged.
