Remove casting through blocking.

I know this is not your area, but be the champion of this because solving PvP problems is. All the things you have suggested or brought out are not having an affect, because guilds will always travel in large groups, and for that matter, like on Thornblade, PUG's run in 'rangerX' (x being the variable for multiple groups).

This change does so much for the game too. Far to long casters have had advantage by permablock, and melee (stamina form) cant even do normal attacks with a shield block up. The effect for lag issue is it will stop the spammers by forcing a choice, do I defend on the flag point, or do I attack. NO MORE METEOR LOCKUP SPAMS since they have lost their ability to not take damage from block.

    The game, both pvp and pve, is tuned around block casting. For better or worse, it'd take a massive retuning to change that.

    Block casting is here to stay.

    Also, too, it wouldn't fix the lag.

    I am not 100% convinced that it's JUST stacked players. I've been in some big battles, some fighting enemies using those very tactics and no lag but when certain other guilds/groups do it, lag... kind of weird. Stacking players doesn't help I bet, plus AoE spam with all those effects in one area but... just weird that it pretty much always shows up when certain groups/guilds are in the area. Not sure what will fix things.

    • Fix Volendrung (spawn location - weapon white on the map causing the wielder to keep it forever - usable with emperorship)

    Actually, according to ZOS, the issue is too many people stacking in a small area.

    Your opinions that this wont work do not hold merit, because the reason stacking is possible is permablock. If they are spam casting, with no permablock keeping them alive, they will die at some point and thus no longer be stacking.

    If they choose to stand there with block, then I believe most likely it will help because it cuts down on animations overloading the area.

    Block casting is a bad mechanic all around, and defenders are short sighted, and I believe it will go away at some point. It is known to be OP.

    As for other contributions to lagfest... well ZOS is targeting small area stacking. Thats what they say is what they are trying to eliminate. Instead of trolling, try to offer something that will solve stacking. ZOS hasnt, and the trolls here I dont think are up to the challange.

    Block casting has nothing to do with stacked groups.

    The lag is caused by bugs or flaws in the server and client software. Removing block casting will do nothing to solve the problem.

    I have seen plenty of zerg-balls running around and I have never once noticed them block-casting. Their group would be moving a lot slower if they were blocking. Instead they move around with great speed, crushing everything in their path.

    I would think that the solution should be pretty obvious, we need a zerg-buster ability. Like many have pointed out in various ways, magicka detonation should scale upwards in direct comparison with how many enemies are in the vicinity at the time of detonation. The ONLY problem with this is that it is exclusive to magicka users. Stamina would need an equivalent to be able to bust a zerg.

    i don't care for block casting either, but that's not what is causing blobs... here's 3 simple things that would work:

    (1) nerf purge, it screams "blob together to be immune to siege"

    (2) flag flipping timer is the same whether it's 1 guy on flag, or 100 guys on the flag

    (3) buff keep npc siege shields and AoE damage, and remove npc single-target CC

    a more adventurous solution... remove all aoe caps/reductions and add an amplified AoE ability or siege engine... hit 2 guys, do 2k damage each... hit 10 guys, do 10k damage each... if a whole raid blobs on crown, you can one hit kill the whole crew

    I don't think people are block casting like the used to. It takes over 2k stamina to block an attack without some form of reduction. 1.5k with s/b.

    Taking away block casting is simply another way to make the large group win, do you not realise this? The fact that you can no longer build ultimate off of AoE abilities was one step towards this already, now if you can no longer block cast, when its 40 against 20 what do you expect the 20 to do? Just stand there not being able to use skills because the moment they try they'll drop block and instantly die?

    Removing block casting is a terrible idea, especially when you already have petrify, fear, spear shards, and whatever that sorc unblockable CC is. Of course Im not allowed to complain since Im a permablocking DK, but it is kinda annoying trying to tank then one nightblade fearing you and you're dead before you can even break free since you've got 15 people focusing you.

    block casting has 0 to do with the lag.

    If they added a calculation to the detonation to make it check for # of targets before calculating dmg, expect a login screen next time 10 ppl arm up and charge into a zerg.

    Not as much block casting going on as there used to be as stamina gets drained really quick and you are dead if you need to break free or stand up and dont have stam. So, I doubt it would effect lag much at all.

    You see large stacks of players on, the now constantly pop locked, BWB (NA) with minimal performance hiccups. So the lag could very well be tied to some of the skills associated with mass stacking playstyle that aren't easily obtainable on Non-Vet characters. I would recommend for ZOS to look into optimizing the calculations behind every skill requiring a assault/support level 5+ and any weapon or class skill requiring a skill level of 30+. It could have nothing to do with skills all together, but I feel it's worth consideration.

    While I have my doubts that this would get rid of lag, I do agree with the remove casting through blocking part.

    I doubt stopping blockcasting will do anything, but I do think its silly for people to be able to keep shield up and be instant god mode provided they have enough stam. What if they converted some skills to being 'block-breakers' if the defending player were below a certain % of stam, this ability would damage them disregarding blocking. This is based off of games like Oblivion and Skyrim where you couldn't just turtle up and block. Unlike ESO, you couldn't just mash the block key and be impenetrable. The enemy could wind up a power attack and send you staggering, so you'd have to drop block and dodge or counter-attack. I know it used to be a valid strat to toss caltrops on an intruding DK in a keep, but the past few times I've seen DC launch their DK bat squad, the ground can be littered with caltrops and they'll still have their shields up with 10 ppl beating up on them simultaneously.

    Is this a troll thread? I think getting rid of grp damage shields and healing springs would spread ppl out.... when you really think about it those are the entire reasons ppl stack and can take ridiculous amounts of damage due to it.

    Exactly this. Entire game is designed around stacking as the main composition to be effective as a group. You want buffs, AoE heals, shields, purge and synergies, than you have to stack. There's no way around it, because range. Spread out and you're not getting any support from your team, besides a few HoTs and maybe a Breath of Life if you know a nice templar.

    No problem in PvE, since instances are capped at 12-players spamming on top of each other. But in PvP the servers cant keep up.

    They need to redesign a lot of skills and possibly also synergies, if they want people to spread. Doesn't matter if you make so called "zergbusters", when basic combat mechanics still requires stacking if you want access. When not stacking means you're at disadvantage.

    Actually block casting can most certainly add to the lag problem. Just like animation canceling and aoe spells. The more the server has to calculate the more there is a risk of lag.

    However, it is not block casting alone. It is all of the above. Putting a bunch of players in a confined space then ramping up the server calculations through aoe spamming, animation cancelling, block casting, aoe's being fired at the the group, seige being used on said group, the character doing nothing but running around in a circle all of it contributes.

    Players are going to stack together tightly until something prevents it. At this point the onus is on ZOS. Just asking the players not to stack is not going to work.

    I remember someone in another post saying they should make damage from some aoes actually increase with number of targets hit.

    What if they could convert the Lightning Ballista to something like a Chain Lightning ballista where the damage scales with however many people are in the aoe. This is based off of some oldschool (and very punishing) WoW mechanics where you absolutely HAD to spread out during certain fights or else you were pretty thoroughly toast, and it prevented people piling up in one spot and stacking aoe heals+shields and =win.

    So far most of the EP breach teams I've ran with go up the stairs and clear the top deck, only venturing downstairs once opposition is severely winnowed/eliminated alltogether. As it stands the current flag mechanics don't reward clever play or strategy, just mindless zerging.
