Error 209 - Version Fail Whenever

I updated the game client this morning (Monday, April 6th) and [Played] for about an hour, logged out and relogged in later [still this morning] and played for a little while longer. This evening I start the Launcher and get Error 209 so I closed it several times and relaunched it (maybe 7 to 10 times) and finally got a [Play] button but, like an idiot, I closed the launcher because I got into a rhythm of close/open frustration.

What's going on and will this resolve itself.

...finally got the [Play] button to show after many more attempts of opening and closing the launcher and the game loads and works fine. How long do I have to deal with the launcher problem?

This is my first time ever experiencing this launcher error since I bought the game last year AND most importantly why does the game run just fine even though the launcher thinks I need to Repair (or even Install a few times)? Am I just not getting connected to the "Launcher Server"?

Oh dang! I had the {play] button sitting there but the launcher errored out and went back to thinking it's the wrong version.

Crashed out of the game 5 times in 5 minutes while in Cyrodiil, and was prompted to Repair (with the same error) twice in a row. Not sure what is happening but it's frustrating.

Try this: click on the little 'link' in the error for help. Mine seems to be working after this
Right click on the launcher icon.
    Select Properties.
    Click on the Compatibility Tab.
Check the box that says Run as Administrator.
    Click Apply and Ok.
    Run the game.

I tried this as well as re-installing the version files as listed on the support page. The article associated with the 209 error. Sadly did not work.

Tried that. Did not work so set it all back to how it was being it never had to have any of them steps to use/start the Launcher previously. So far my fix is to close and open the launcher until it finally gives me the [Play] button. Seems to be around 5-15% of the time it *will* work. The rest of the tries (open/close) either want me to Repair or Install (wtf?).

With that said once I do finally get the play button I have to press it at lightning speed before it changes into the Repair button. The client (game itself) will play just fine if I make it to this point.

ZOS should do something about this...but I don't think they are capable of fixing this or they would have by now. With patches every week like clockwork at the moment, the least they could do is offer an explanation.

I started a similar thread to this last week in which a user explained the cause of this to me...I will dig up a link when I get a chance...

I also experience Error 209 - PatchManifestError_VersionFail, but for me it happened immediately after NA Patch v2.0.4 completed.

BTW, I have permanently set Properties for the Launcher to Run as Administrator. In an abundance of caution, I previously had also set the other ESO executables such as eso.exe, etc., to Run as Administrator.

I ran Repair, but that did not fix the problem

I then clicked the KB link on the error box and downloaded the "manifest version" text file "fix", which I dutifully copied to the Program Data folder under the Launcher folder (not Windows > Program Data). Re-ran Repair with the text file in place, but Error 209 reappeared.

Next I searched Support for Error 209, found the KB dated 03/16/2015 and followed the detailed instructions for advanced troubleshooting and repair, and then deleting the various version number files in Client subfolders

Rebooted and ran Repair again. Finally Play appeared!

I successfully logged in (to NA) and played for about 90 minutes with only one minor movement bug, for which I sent a /bug report.. Unfortunately, after I quit the session, when I returned to the Launcher screen, a different Manifest Error message appeared. This time the Repair button appeared, highlighted. I'm running yet another Repair session as I repot this.

During Beta I had several problematic instances of Error 209 around August 2014. Until today, the issue seemed resolved.

Is Monday's instance of Error 209 caused by a fault in the v2.0.4 download? I look forward to a resolution.

I did the update on Monday and got the 209 Error.

I found the resolution guide in the support area and followed it as described.

Deleted the files and repaired... I was able to play for several hours and then I logged out and found a 209 Error waiting for me as I exited the game.

I opened the launcher today and have a 209 error again but his time I deleted the files and the repair is running slower then mud.

Nothing happened to my PC to cause the error to pop up. I hadn't turned off the unit.. only quit the game so why in the world is it finding this error... While I'm playing the game??!!

The repair process is dragging today for some reason and honestly I am getting a bit tired of this hassle.

Something needs to be done ASAP.

Error 209 - PatchManifestError_VersionFail as well. I don't bother repairing as the patch worked just fine yesterday. I closed it, opened it up, and got my "Play" button.

As it stands, I won't be bothering to "Repair".

I have the same error message but I've always been able to hit the play button regardless. I tried run as administrator like the link told us but it stayed there. I didn't troubleshoot any further due to the fact that I can still login and I don't wish to mess it up further.

If anyone has any interest, the article the error provides a link to is here: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6486

Same Here, I keep having to repair and it's quite annoying, It started happening when I started putting ESO on my other pc because my gaming laptop needs a lil TLC work, I never finished on the pc but I canceled it from taking too long but now I keep having to repair my game and it says it cannot verify current version of game while giving Error 209,
It also says that I might have updated before the servers updated,

I don't know how that happends when it's an automatic update for me lol, I had no control when it updates U_U

CSR Thomas provided this extensive document to troubleshoot, repair, and resolve Errors 209, 210, or other Patch Manifest and other errors.

Official response from Thomas, ESO Support:
    Incident: 150407-000424

Response By Email (Thomas) (04/07/2015 03:07 PM)

    Greetings!

Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited customer support team!

We have compiled some information below for troubleshooting that should resolve most launcher issues. If the troubleshooting steps do not directly address your issue, please reply back with a Game Consultant report (instructions below) for our technical support specialists to review.

    Mac OSX Players:

Please be advised, at this time our team is aware of an issue regarding the newest version of the installer for OSX 10.7 in addition to conflicts with resolution on other versions of OSX that are preventing the game from installing properly, and are actively researching a solution. In the meantime, please follow the link below to download and install the previous version of the fully unpacked launcher. This will allow you to install The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited and patch it to be the most current version. Thank you for your patience!

    http://patcher.elderscrollsonline.com/products/BNA_Launcher/TESO_OSX.dmg

    All Players:

Please perform the following steps below before moving on to Advanced Troubleshooting:

    1. Temporarily disable your anti-virus program(s)
    2. Delete the Launcher folder located at C:\Program Files(x86)\ZenimaxOnline
    3. Login to your account at www.account.elderscrollsonline.com and click “Download Game
    4. Run the installation file to ensure you have the most updated launcher version installed
    5. Open the launcher
    6. Select the version of the megaserver you are experiencing problems with (NA or EU)
    7. Select Game Options
    8. From the drop-down, select Repair
    9. Allow the Repair option to run
    10. Enable your anti-virus program(s)

Once these steps are complete, you will want to ensure that your anti-virus program(s) are not hindering the connection to the launcher or the game in any way. To do this:

    1. Open your anti-virus program
    2. Create exception for C:\Program Files(x86)\ZenimaxOnline (please note this is the default directory, and you will need to navigate accordingly if you manually changed the directory during the installation process)
    3. Re-test any issues

*Please note that even if you have already created exceptions in the past, large update such as 1.6, or other weekly updates, can cause the exceptions to become void. It is necessary to create new exceptions from time-to-time to avoid any additional problems. Permanently disabling your anti-virus is not recommended for certain issues due to background security services that continue to run. For instructions on creating anti-virus exceptions, please reach out to the author of your specific anti-virus program(s).*

Many customers have also found that repairing their UserSettings.txt file has resolved several issues, including a black screen when pressing Play and instant crashes upon game launch. Check the "usersettings.txt"' file:

    1. Navigate to My Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live (or liveEU if playing on the European megaserver)
    2. Open the file "usersettings.txt" with Notepad (or some other word editor)
    3. Copy and paste the settings found at https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9128/
    4. Save the document, close it, and re-test the issue

If your computer appears to be missing the UserSettings file, please create one by following these steps:

    1. Open Notepad.exe
    2. Save the Notepad file as UserSettings in My Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live (or liveEU if playing on the European megaserver)
    3. Copy and paste the settings found at https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9128/
    4. Save the document, close it, and re-test the issue

    Ignore the error.

make a shortcut on the desktop to launch the game from the eso.exe file found at \Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client

Use this to launch the game.

    use the launcher for updates

I was receiving the same error but can launch the game via the shortcut and get in
