We're looking for additional details to help us track down and fix the longstanding bug where a group has no designated group leader. If you've recently encountered this issue, any details you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

We're looking for things such as: Did this happen after someone left the group? When someone was invited? When your group zoned into another area? Did it happen after someone in your group disconnected or logged out?

Thank you!

I had that yesterday... I am not quite sure but it was after I left the group after someone logged out. And then back in. It could be that there is a bit of code that related to who is who in a group is not purging as it should.

This post nearly brought tears to my eyes.

I will keep a diary of every time this happens, and report back!

This often happens while I'm actually trying to form the group (invite one person, immediately go to invite another.. no leader) I will try to keep better track of what goes on in those seconds.

I have seen this issue if I invite a player (responding to my zone chat advert) while the grouping tool was running. If I kill the grouping tool search BEFORE I actually invite a player manually, I do not see this bug. After inviting the player, I then fire up the group tool again....

My group leader got it twice yesterday, we were not using the group tool as I dont know anyone that is using it actually.
When the leader decide to start the invites, got 1 to join and the star dissapear, invite the 3rd but he isnt leader anymore.
both left the group, he tried again with the same order and got the same result.
As a workaround we do all the time, someone else started the invites and it worked fine.

In all of my cases, it occurs when I invite someone to a group... usually we start a group and the crown just disappears like no-one was assigned leader when it formed.

I can't remember if the crown appears when I send out an invite, and then disappears when the person accepts... or if it just never shows up. Usually we have to reform the group.

Once the crown exists on my head, inviting new members doesn't appear to cause any problems for me.

I've also seen it happen where one person in the part logs off, then logs back on... something happens and the group leader vanishes. Although, it's hard to pinpoint because you usually don't notice it until after it happens.

    Hello @ZOS_JessicaFolsom,

This issue can occur at any time while creating a new group. There's nothing specific about it. You can right click someones name and invite to group and then check and there's no group leader. You can hit F on a player and select Invite to Group and there's no group leader. Sometimes it takes 3-4 tries on inviting to a group to get the crown to show up. Sometimes it works fine on the first try. I'm sorry that this information doesn't help pinpoint it.

Last time it happened to me was just a few days ago. I invited another player to start a group. When the group was formed there was no group leader. I had to disband the group and reinvite the other player 3 times until I finally was group leader of the group I had just started. So it can happen right when you start a group already (and it does happen quite often, like once every few days).
If I'm not mistaken the method by which you invite other players does not matter (you can press F, right-click on the name in the chat window, right-click on the name in your friends list or in the guild roster; the bug may occur with all these methods).

most often, this happens when we try to form a group.

    1) "groupleader to be" starts inviting people
    2) 1 or 2 people join the group
    3) when trying to invite more people, groupleader gets the error message "only group leaders can invite"
    4) groupleader notices his group no longer has a leader
    5) other group members usually still see the group leader as a group leader, but that does not help him invite more (or promote someone else to leader)

So... Several things I've noticed with this bug:

Happens mostly when the would-be leader invites people in other zones than himself.
Mostly the leader will be lost after the first invite, rarely after that.
If you disband the group and invite the people in the same order, you can sometimes repeat the bug several times.
If you invite people in a different order than the first time, it mostly works.
The other party members will still see who is group leader, but the leader will not.
If the leader goes to another zone by wayshrine, or other load screen like entering or exiting a dungeon, the leader will again see that he is the leader.

I can't remember if I have tried to reload the UI when this happens.

This happens to me when inviting one or more people, when I'm not in a group. As soon as the first one joins I lose group lead about 30% of the time. It seems to be especially common when we are in different zones from each other.

Thank you for investigating this, it has been such a plague for a year now to have to deal with this every day.

The bug often happens if you invite just one player. If you are quick enough to invite 2 it's like this:
    1. Invite 2 or more players
    2. the first will accept. (the bug may happen)
    3. the second player will accept and the bug "disappear" for ~80%

But in my opinion its not a bug that there is no group leader. In most cases there IS a group leader. So it seems to me just a "UI" think.
Its very often that other members see a crown on the leader but the leader itself sees no crown and cannot invite. I guess its an UI bug because of:
    1. Sometimes the crown comes back if you change the zone
    2. If the leader has "no" crown (so the bugs seems to be there) and log out an other member will get the crown.

As Panda and Robb and Zap noted, this is not a repeatable snafu. But, if it were, it would have been fixed long, long ago *sigh*

These variables used together can make it occur:

Happens when players are in another zone from each other.

Happens when players are vet characters.

Happens when neither players were previously in a group.

Happens when adding players from Guild roster.

Happened twice in the past week; both times were when I was invited to group, joined group, and group leader zoned to me. Once they zoned in (to Mournhold if that matters) we had to drop group and reform.

for me it only happens when i invite the first person into a new grp, if that works everything afterwards is fine too.
Also the other person usually still sees you as grp lead only you yourself dont see it (and the system doesnt recognize you as leader too), after zoning/relogging everything is fixed.

Also the most effective "workaround" is to invite everyone before they accept then it never happend to me.

I generally get it anytime I invite one person to the group. If I'm forming a party of 4 or 12, having the first few invitees wait until I've sent out more than one invite will fix the bug after I lose group lead when the first accept. ( The first person accepts the invite, and I lose group lead. If I happen to already have a second invite out there, the leader bug will fix itself when the second person accepts the invite ).

This happens to me sometimes when using my AutoInviter addon. If it's not doling out multiple invites at once, I'll usually get the bug and have to drop group and reinvite manually.

    IE:
    When starting a group:

I use 444 as my invite code. Put it out in /zone.

    So&So: 444
    Other people: blah blah
    That Guy: blah blablah blah
    etc etc
my auto inviter shoots them an invite. They're invited, and BLAM, no group leader. Then I have to disband, and reinvite manually

I never notice it happen when I already have a group, OR when multiple invite codes pop at once.

    IE:

    So&So: 444
    That Guy: 444
    Ohter People: 444

All are invited near-simultaenously, group comes together fine, no bug.

What will it take you guys to start working on other longstanding bugs of grouping tool? Like the part where it doesn't make groups?

I know there is a way to avoid it.
Lets say I invite one person to the group however, before they accept i have to invite another to the group. After i invite the second person then the first person and second person can accept the invites and there will always be a group leader. Hopefully this can help!

I've had this happen with completely new groups also. I invited someone who was standing next to me into my group. He joined, and neither of us was listed as the leader, so we had to disband in order to invite more players.

    Party leader problem:
If we send group invite to 2 or more ppl successively, then it happens and not the first invite accept first.

If we send group invite to only 1 ppl, and wait for accept it, and after it send invite too, and wait to accept it again, then the party leader ok.

Happens all the time. It's hard to nail down precise details other than you invite someone and after they join the group there is no leader. It can happen on1st, 2cnd, or 3rd invite.

Always seems to happen as a group is forming. Invite 1 person, and it's fine, invite a 2nd person, and it bugs out. If everyone that wants to join the group waits until all invites have gone out, then accepts, it won't bug.
