Race changes

I can't remember, did ZoS say race changes would be available when game officially goes B2P? Just wondering. I was pretty much hardcore against it since launch, then 1.6 came out and the removal or soft caps makes me realize that now race DOES actually matter. Before it really didn't matter. Getting to soft cap was easy regardless of race choice and choosing your race was more for fun because that's what you wanted to be. Basically who would of known there choice a year ago, based on information at the time, would end up crippling us in the future? Think it would actually be fare to let us change, not to mention the fact we are the ones paying for the game.

Now, it's clear race makes a big difference. Even before the game came out I was a bit perturbed by the fact races were faction locked. I mean, in every elder scrolls game you could find any race any where. I mean, if you were a nord born in the Aldmeri Dominion, you'd probably want to defend your homeland not abandon it just because your not a race that usually comes from that area.

Anyways, it's not like a deal breaker or anything and I am not complaining. If they let us then YEY, if not O WELL. I just wouldn't mind changing my Wood Elf into an Altmer since I am magicka based lol. WTB race change hahaha.

    No. Just no.

And talking about "if you were a nord born in ..." should probably give clue as to why.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Then they should have stuck to the "we won't mess with Racial passives" instead of wrecking some of them.

Half the people here want race change options, and are busy clamoring for it to be added to the crown store someday...
...and the other half the people hate it and want to burn everyone who might even think about implementing it at the stake... ;)

In the end, it might come, or it might not. Personally I don't really see any value in it at this point... though I see no reason not to have it for a high crown cost either. I mean, if someone pays 20 bucks to change their race, that's 20$ added to the developers war chest to finance new content for the rest of us...

I think of it this way. Letting people change race let's people play how they want, change things up so they don't get bored, paid money for the game, 1.6 totally screwed up racial choices, and the fact there is more than three races in every area of tamriel in every other elder scrolls game.

Those who are against it have no legitimate reasons for it not to happen. It doesn't affect them in any way shape or form. They don t have to change their race. It won't make anyone OP. Ex. Altmer Magicka NB's already exist. So if you have trouble beating one now, its not going to change the fact you can't beat someone who changes their current race to altmer. This also works in reverse. If you have no problem beating an altmer magicka NB now, you won't have any trouble if someone decides to change race to altmer.

It doesn't mess with lore so all the RP people, who honestly represent the minority, can't complain. Again, no one is forcing you to change races.

I've never actually read one sane or reasonable idea to why race change shouldn't happen. Its always "no, just no" with zero reasons given. Any silly reason besides that I have heard is easily refuted.

I would be very surprised if race/name change doesn't pop up in the store at some point. I'm also hoping for a faction change, though I'd rather it be a questline than a store option.

Your choices should matter and should have consequences.

So in this situation, ZOS's choice in not implementing race changes or rebalances in racials should have consequences, and the consequence is that people like me have already left the game due to being fed up with it. Obviously, imbalances in racials wasn't the only reason I've left, but being a pet peeve for months, it was a factor for me. Honestly, I just can't take this game seriously when racials skew character performance to the extent that is in the game right now.

Race changes should only be possible after approval by a self-appointed panel of players who think they should be the ones to decide whether other players can change their characters.

The system is already being tested in the forums. :p

I know right? I think it's hilarious when people talk about "choices should have consequences" when this is just a game and the hardest choice they make on a daily basis is what to shoes to wear.

I bet the majority of people saying this would be singing a different tune if they didn't already know about getting the Oghma Infinium book from the Sheogorath quest and choosing the other choice. They'd would be (and were) up in arms about how they thought it was a rip off that their choice didn't reward them. Bunch of Hippocrates.

These people against a race change feature are nothing but selfish kids who have no clue what they are talking about lol.

These people against a race change feature are nothing but selfish kids who have no clue what they are talking about lol.

Even better, you obviously think that the best way to present a decent argument is to assume the opposing view is purely based on selfishness and lack of maturity.... while using "lol" in a sentence. Classy.

On the other hand we could just go ahead and try using that pesky forum search function. Shall we? You never know, you might actually see some of the arguments written in support of, and in opposition to, a race change option. In the last few weeks. At length. By several different people. In multiple threads.

Bottom line: if ZOS sees there is a high enough player demand to pay cash for it, it will be put in the cash shop for you to pay cash for it.
I've been muted since November 2017 because of the whiny crybabies on this forum and the liberal ZOS employees coddling them.

Sadly probably true.... with all of the attendant problems that have been spelled out in the threads I linked.

After all, ZOS has already made it perfectly clear that this is about maximising profit and not, for example, making the best game they possibly can. The most recent answers to the ESO Live AUA reinforced that impression only a couple of days ago.

This was pretty much my train of thought:

Gidorick: "NO race change! Absolutely NOT! Never allow this! It's lore breaking. If you want to play another race, roll another character."
ZOS: "ESO is going buy to play and will support itself with a crown store"
Gidorick: "Ahh... let them change their race... but make 'em pay for it!"

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

My main is a Breton Nightblade, was stealth based magicka build.

The recent changes to certain class skill morphs mean my Magicka stats are useless on the morphs I took (both of my openers happened to be the ones that went stam based - Surprise Attack, Ambush).

So I could pay for a race change that will help me maximize the potential of this character after Zenimax changed everything that put me into this position; or I could tediously grind the other morphs and stick to the magicka build, which was never my intent with this character in the first place, it was a concession made to continue enjoying the character.

Or I could just stop playing because Zenimax changing the scaling stat for a skill and changing racial skills without giving a solution such as the ability to change race (even if only one time) is ridiculous.

I would love to see a race change option. Normally I wouldn't support it, but considering all of the changes ZOS has made to magicka/stamina builds, I think an option for a race change is in order somehow.

I rolled a Breton NB because at the time the NB class NEEDED magicka regardless of build. Well now that NB is V7 and I am struggling to find ways to use magicka in order to validate my race. I am using a stamina build and there is very little I can find useful using magicka. I am forcing myself to use Funnel Health and Sap Essence for no other reason than because I want to somehow get relevant contributions from my racial traits.

I would change my race in a heartbeat if I could. And if stamina builds would have been viable when I created this NB, I would never have chosen Breton to begin with.

Wow. Look, as I foretold! No actual reason given! Just links to other posts that also don't have logical reasons!

There is a difference between not giving a reason and expecting you to do your own reading. I honestly didn't expect that I would have to hold your hand through this. In those threads are dozens of posts that give opinions and reasons from both sides of the fence.

You dismiss them because you don't agree with them? Fine. Your choice.

You dismiss them on the basis of "no actual reason given"? That is down to either your own bias... or a failure to comprehend what you are reading. Either way it is about your approach, not the links.

I don't personally care if they're ever implemented as I'll never be using the crown store for anything outside of maybe future dlc depending on how badly they try to gouge for it, but race changes/gender changes/cosmetic changes are all in the lore, the only ones who ever cry immersion breaking are those who a.) have never played an ES game before and b.) haven't gotten very far in this one ( hint: there's a quest where you have to rescue a male elf who was changed into a female goblin by a dark sorcerer and is about to be *** by a goblin chief in this very game ).

Those little thieves refuges under the cities now that seem to be a lot bigger than they need to be? Plenty of space for a coven of dark wizards looking to make some easy money by employing a bit of simple dark magic for a discreet and discerning clientele.

What are you, the Oracle of Tamriel?

It's been said in multiple interviews, they are currently looking into things like changing appearance, gender and race, using the store or in-game features. Doesn't mean it's happening soon, but pretty damn far from "never".

We dont know bugger all about the future, so people needs to stop making stuff up, because they disagree with a topic. Take that fact that ESO is dropping their mandatory subscription. That was never going to happen, according to hordes of overly confident forum users.

Loads of "never" that might be in-game in the future: PvP battle grounds, cosmetic cloaks, faction change and floozy or lore breaking outfits. Than there's fat and hairy men in white wedding dresses...totally didn't expect that one myself

Personally, I think that if you are that upset about the direction the importance of racials are playing, then you can't be upset when someone turns around and says, "You nerfed my class. I want the ability to choose a different class." I myself wouldn't move heaven and earth to ask for this.

There are two classes of people here, I think:

    1) Those who made a roleplay choice on looks and backstory rather than passives.
    2) Those who made a choice on passives as it may benefit classes.

If you are asking to change your race now there are two responses.

    1) You made a choice on roleplay other than passives. Nothing has changed. Reroll a new character.
    2) Now that classes have a more balanced (skewed to magicka) selection of magicka and stamina based options, your passives as they exist still allow you to lean on them to some degree. Nothing significant has changed. Reroll a new character.

I"m not trying to be mean. Just being a realist. The game changes. Parts move. If ZOS has to give you the option to change virtually everything at the drop of a dollar, then where is the incentive to roll more than one character?

Browse through the forums. There are people who are wanting to change names, change appearance, change race, change class, change alliance. Perhaps ZOS should just limit us all to one character slot with 8x inventory bag and 48 hirelings, just because this morning you were a dark elf dragonknight in the Ebonhart Pact and by tonight you'll want be an Imperial Nightblade in the Daggerfall Covenant.
