Race changes

I have Imperial edition, but no Imperial toons. I probably would, begrudgingly, re-roll my Khajiit nightblade to a more magicka based race, probably Breton, and re-roll my Dunmer templar to Imperial, maybe. My Dunmer DK would stay as she is, as she is beautiful :)

How about just remove racials or allow you to choose 4 passives from the pool.

    How about http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Races

Why do you keep posting this - I don't read anything in there that supports some races getting screwed by botched updates

Race change doesn't make sense. Just start a new character and be what you want to be.
My main is Altmer who does lots of damage with fire, but since healers are in high demand for group dungeons - I started Argonian character who I will use mainly for healing.
Character development and progression is there for a reason.

look obviously you have no idea about endgame and optimizing to change altmer to argonian for healing is such a bad idea i can't even(go breton if you want a better healer but the difference will be super low altmer are a good magicka race).... which is ok play how you want to play i have 4 alts and because i actually want to optimize and zenimax changed some stuff (and i altered my playstyle) i want a race change and am willing to pay good money for it. Rerolling just for racials is of course no option I want to spend my time doing endgame and leveling 4 alts and another one in the making was tough enough before zenimax killed xp.

I don't understand why people would even think to chance race? Choosing your alliance is very important if you see it that way, so why thinking in changing it? That is dumb idea, there is better things that can be in the CS than race change.

I'm not talking about that, I am talking about the players and their choices not the company. Besides if we talking abut that option I don't know why they either have that available and in fact if they have that available why put that option of race change in the CS for that matters.

ok i want an endgame char i have the adventure pack form preorder i have choosen my races and classes exactly for then playstyle i want them ( i don't care about lore or whatever in my case) to perform. i leveled all classes to v14 which took forever. to stay competitive i have to play my vr chars to gain champion points. Keep those points in mind:

Zenimax changed major parts of the game mainly softcaps and race changes in general which made certain races a lot more desireable to have then i could ever know back then(or a lot less desirable). Furthermore they changed skills which i relied on and have choosen my race for it (nightblade pvp melee magicka) which i can't longer play like i want them to play and would love to change them to stamina because it now does the same i did before with magicka. Of course i have the wrong racials for it and would throw away a too large percentage of stats if i ignore racials to ever stay competitive on a level i want to play.
You can not really expect from me to relevel my chars just waiting for zenimax making another change i have no influence in.

This is exactly why we need race changes. ZoS doesn't have to stick with their decisions or make up their mind, they keep changing major parts of the game a few times a year. But than the also need to offer us tools to deal with the changes or make race have lesser impact on play style.

For example, you had people making argonian healers for the potion strength. That got gutted. I also picked a magicka based race to play mele NB assassin, but that playstyle no longer exists after changes to stamina. People picked a dunmer to have synergy with vampire, but vamping in PvP now you get 1 shot by siege lol. Someone wanted battle mage and picked a stam race for their sorc, but ZoS nerfed Crit Surge and failed to deliver good stamina morphs. So much this all the time. Yet, we're supposed to stick with our choices. To bad the stuff we choose back at character selection screen, no longer exists.

I mentioned it before, I'll write it again - I don't really see the need for race changes until they add new race options. But I wouldn't begrudge people having the option for a hefty crowns price either. Of course... I don't care about the "best" passives for my choosen class anyhow, since I build my characters are characters, and not as collection of numbers... so it won't matter to me how they change passives around.

The racial passives... well, some of them are debatable. For example, I really hate all those "gain experience with weapon/armor faster" since in the end, that one is practically worthless. You gain enough experience to get there anyways, and once you got to max its of no use whatsoever anymore. Now if those had an "...and also gain bonus armor/damage"... that would be worth something even at the end. But I guess that's something TPB decide...

I however would be very vexed if they just went with "choose your personal passives" since that would then cater to the min/maxers and leech out all the elder scrolls racial flavor. All those passives mean something after all, in long standing TES tradition. Sure, its a bit different here then in other eso games, but still meaningful - bosmer are still sneaky and good with arrows, redgaurds are still blade-happy, Bretons and altmer still much into magic, argonians still semi-amphibeous-ish... etc. Wouldn't want to miss that.

They actually said during beta (yes, back when there was testing every other weekend) that race and name changing would be implemented into the game... and were to be shortly after launch, if I recall correctly.

I am sure they have had many other things to deal with since (snickers), but this came from the top, so I hope they hold true to their word.

With all the changes that came in 1.6, race changing has more merit than ever, so @ZoS should really look into it asap - and it's fine if they charge a few $ for it.

"Play like you want to play" and all that, right?

Well I was browsing along and came to this exchange:
    AngryNord wrote: »
Just for the record - I play a Nord Templar in Heavy armour and two-handed weapon, going mostly as a tank-dps-self-healing hybird. And no, I don't want race change.
This pretty much sums it up. You obviosuly don't care about optimizing your character, which is your prerogative and absolutely fine in itself. Nobody will force you into it. Now please don't try to force your playstyle onto those who want to do so.

Keeping this excchange in the back of my mind, I will start with a few points.

I will say that I am generally against a race change. I have a few reasons/thoughts on the matter.

1-the RP part of MMORPG implies that we are rollling up "characters" - and I have not yet found/played or even read about a reality/story in which race change is an option. Given the low-grade, but incredibly pervasive racism that is a part (perhaps not a well-loved part, but definetly a part) of ES lore, this just doesn't make sense. If you really want to see some quality ranting on this general issue of playing "individual characters", take a peek at the threads about account wide alliance points.

2-Since starting this game, and dipping my toes in the world of online play - I have been informed many many times (sometimes politely, sometimes not) that such games are pretty inherently in a semi-permanent state of low grade flux. That there will always be upgrades, changes and tweaks and that this is the nature of the beast. So this week (or month)'s "best race" may be next year's "worst".

3-and ... well... insert heavy sigh here. The whole PvP thing. I just cringe at the whole subsection of players who cannot describe their gaming without heavy use of mathematical jargon - and "optimized play" is a key concept that tells me that this person probably has no backstory for their character. If that is truly fun - I can't see how this game, with it's rich culture and history - and being that it's new - it's state of developmental flux - is a place where such players are going to be happy.

So to Guybrush, and folks that want a heavily "optimizable" character - and want changes that aren't reasonable in this games context - between the lore and the new/tweaky-ness, this may not be the best game for you.

On the other hand, those folks (um ... I'm actually sorta thinking of Deltia's Gaming & his myriad videos) who dive into each new variation and tweakage as a challenge and enjoy the heck out of it - well maybe this is the right place for you.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Luckily much of the community does support this and I just read an article interviewing a dev and he stated that this isn't off the table.

Play some more, get to Greenshade, do every dwelve, pay special attention to the quest you stumble over in the northernmost one, when turning it in to the khajiit-envious dunmer, listen to what is supposed to happen and watch what actually happens, and you shall see... ;)

That said, I for one would not want to change any of my characters races - I did pick them with a character in mind, not a bundle of stats.
(I might get tempted if they added more races... without adding more character slots... one of my characters might be more fun if he was Maormer, but that aside...)

But I wouldn't deny it to others, provided it carries a hefty price in terms of crowns. If someone was willing to put down, say, 3000 crowns for a race change - let them have it, more money in the developers warchest to finance more content for the rest of us all the sooner, right?

    Emphasis mine.

I see this assertion a fair amount and I have to ask, does it?

Is there anything in ZOS's recent behaviour that leads you to believe that any extra money they make through Crown Store offerings will be put towards the production of new content at a faster rate? Rather than, for example, greater returns to investors and a possible consolidation of the existing Dev team.

Your choices should matter and should have consequences.

So in this situation, ZOS's choice in not implementing race changes or rebalances in racials should have consequences, and the consequence is that people like me have already left the game due to being fed up with it. Obviously, imbalances in racials wasn't the only reason I've left, but being a pet peeve for months, it was a factor for me. Honestly, I just can't take this game seriously when racials skew character performance to the extent that is in the game right now.

The only consequence from my point will be considering different game. Since I put a lot of effort building my main and I do not consider fun doing exactly the same again.
