It's great that ESO supports player-made add-ons, and it really brings value to the game.Would it be too much to ask ZOS for a rethink of core UI and ease of play elements within the game system so we aren't forced to rely on players offerings?
For me, ZOS is taking advantage of add-on developers to keep from doing their job with regard to a functional UI. I'm not saying every add-on should be part of the game's UI, but:
- Still no text search box in guild stores?
- Still no way to check if a trait is known by your character?
- Still no way to check which recipes/traits you know without going to a fireplace/crafting station?
- Still no way to sort through your inventory using subcategories?
This is just lazy. The truth is, if some of my add-ons stop working, I can't see myself playing the game any more. The default UI is that insufferable.
To a large extent, everyone (or most everyone) knew that add-ons could break with updates. That's always the case in any game. What we didn't know was how hard ZOS was going to make life for add-on developers. They've changed the API a number of times without the tiniest effort to preserve backwards compatibility.
I played the game without add-ons for months because I had experience with other MMOs and broken add-ons. However, I was wasting hours in the game doing stuff like searching through my inventory for a particular item, or trying to see which traits I'd already researched, or trying to find something in a guild store (LOL).
