Addonocalypse?

I wondered if anyone knew what is going to happen with add ons when we first start playing? I've become quite used to add ons making a lot of of the more irritating 'ease of play' aspects of ESO bearable, but I'm guessing that we will need to wait until the providers of these add ons decide to update/adapt them to 1.6 out of the kindness of their hearts?

And what happens if they decide they aren't going to play until there is new content, or that 1.6 was just not worth it for them to keep subbed, or that they don't like b2p and aren't going to continue etc.

Would it be too much to ask ZOS for a rethink of core UI and ease of play elements within the game system so we aren't forced to rely on players offerings?

Cheers.

Using Minion, I notice that LOTS of the good addons I was using have been updated today. I presume they've been working on the PTS to get their code up to snuff.

    ^^^

A lot of the more consistently updated addons seem to tend to have designers and programers who play PTS so they can have tentative patches ready quickly.

FTC has updated twice today, just leave minion open on your other screen so you can see if it updates.

Or alt tab every two hours or so if you still play on a single screen. *shudder*

To a large extent, everyone (or most everyone) knew that add-ons could break with updates. That's always the case in any game. What we didn't know was how hard ZOS was going to make life for add-on developers. They've changed the API a number of times without the tiniest effort to preserve backwards compatibility.

I played the game without add-ons for months because I had experience with other MMOs and broken add-ons. However, I was wasting hours in the game doing stuff like searching through my inventory for a particular item, or trying to see which traits I'd already researched, or trying to find something in a guild store (LOL).

For me, ZOS is taking advantage of add-on developers to keep from doing their job with regard to a functional UI. I'm not saying every add-on should be part of the game's UI, but:

    - Still no text search box in guild stores?
    - Still no way to check if a trait is known by your character?
    - Still no way to check which recipes/traits you know without going to a fireplace/crafting station?
    - Still no way to sort through your inventory using subcategories?

This is just lazy. The truth is, if some of my add-ons stop working, I can't see myself playing the game any more. The default UI is that insufferable.

It's great that ESO supports player-made add-ons, and it really brings value to the game.

But that doesn't mean ZOS should slack off on making the unmodified game more user-friendly and feature-competitive with other contemporary games.

ZOS should hire some of the better add-on makers to improve the game's playability if they can't find the time or talent to do these things in-house.

Completely agree, their UI is the crappiest I have ever used in a game, it's pathetic for 2015. What is even more pathetic is they are launching the game again without much update to chat or ui at all, it's pure lazyness and lack of willing to cut into profits and spend time polishing and updating the chat system, party system, ui functions etc.

In a game in 2015 not to have these basic functions nailed down a year after release, there is no excuse for it.
