The Way of Playing ESO

Am i a fool to think that playing ESO should feel like the playstyle i (or we) used for other TES games.

So far ive been extremely satisfied by playing this game like it was a single player TES game...i dont even care what my lvl is..i just enjoy the combat and the story so much..and the scenery is amazing even on my bad bad laptop...

The quest are awesome, combat is awesome, and i dont even care about endgame or lvling cause i thoroughly enjoy the game as it is...

But im a huge fan of TES and when i saw ppl online bashing ESO so hard i almost didnt buy the game..but i took the plunge and im really enjoying it.

Don't ever confuse people giving the game and ZOS a hard time with people hating the game.

Some of us get annoyed and rage a bit because we want it to improve and we're disappointed with certain things.

If we all told ZOS everything was fine with sunshine and rainbows then nothing would get fixed and it would slowly die due to people getting bored and/or annoyed but not voicing their concerns.

The biggest threat to any game are players that constantly praise and never call out on bad decisions.

I have played all the elder scrolls and I think ESO is just a much a part of that franchise as any of the games, it feel like an elder scrolls game to me, yes it is a bit different in some ways, but I like it. :)

No people online just always think they are special and there for whine all the time.
And right now the forum is a little extream on how many there is..

Enjoy the game and play it as you like and don't listen to the others that tell you otherwise or bash the game. Hopefully the leave when the game go free.

    Oh really nice feedback...

And yea i agree you NEED to point out flaws,,,but sheer number of youtube videos dissing on ESO could potentionly discourage ALOT of ppl away from the game...i was "brave" and got it cuz i like TES and i found out a GEM in this sea of Recycled mmos out there

MY opinions on what you're seeing outside of the forums would be wanna be players that are upset that ESO is a MMO and not co-op. Anyways, you will find a lot of rage here on the forums, but honestly it's just us players that love the game and want to see it done right by ZOS. If the game makes you happy, and it really is a good game, than just avoid threads where the rage may be taking place. Glad you decided to join the game and I hope you have many years of fun!

I played Oblivion in a manner not that dissimilar to this game, obviously I played Skyrim Differently, but I think my point is each game was different, so you can't say you played all the TES games the same.

In other words i dont care that it took me a week for lvl 12... ;)

I played Morrowind, tried Oblivion and just didn't like that it wasn't Morrowind. My main appeal in trying ESO was two things. First to get a revisit to Morrowind with better graphics. Second to be able to play it with my spouse (we used to RPG in a Morrowind based campaign, but our gaming partners moved outstate).

Since trying ESO I will say that there are some things that I miss. Being able to drop piles of loot in various places and be able to come back to them. Being able to have long conversations with NPCs (I don't care that many overlapped each others info. In any given town that SHOULD happen). Gathering stuff and doing alchemy (I'm dissapointed, but on the other hand I'm amazed that it managed to translate at all).

I like the storylines, I like the world. I like the NPCs. Heck I even like some of the fanfiction (yes, there is ES fanfic from every version of the games).

I don't like the remaking of armor as you level. I don't like the lack of 'robes' or 'skirts' that could alter a players look without altering their armor protection. I don't like the idiotic appearance of cliff racers (too birdy, way too small, way too safe). Same for mud crabs, alits and kagouti - nix hounds are just depressing.

I don't like how hard it is to get a good looking PC; and how appearance in "character creation" is NOT the same as apperance in the game (actually how did this happen? It makes no sense to me).

I like taking my time. I have ... err ... I have 8 characters on my first account (no 'alts' no 'toons' I play them all and they all have backstories) and so far I have 4 characters on my second account (yes, I'm sick, clearly). My highest level PC is 33. Lowest just started last night (after a discussion of the merits of a Templer "healer" vs a Templer "paladin"). My spouse and I (I'm playing a redguard Templar and he is playing an Orismer battlemage) wandered all over Cold Harbor practicing our various healing/fighting arts on feral shriven and flame atronachs.

Anyway, we were up till 11pm and that's why I drank red bull this morning. Which had no effect on my posting. Really. I'm always this chatty.

    Err ... done for now.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.

    Awesome post newtinmpls...

But i have to remind you this is an mmo game...and the bad things u mentioned had to be this way..maybe not exactly this way but fairly close...its just a nature of mmo games that forces developers for alternative way of presenting the same idea

You always have players that race through content & max level in rapid time. Gw2 was no different in this regard. Bet the same happens with games like Oblivion & Skyrim.
Oblivion took me a long time to finish. Loved the game so much, never wanted to beat it. Often restarted the game, without finishing the main story.

Took 5 months for me to get one char to vr14 in this game

I think I'm taking about ... 3 months or so to get to lvl 11-13 with any given character. I'm not gonna race through. If I'm in a dungeon (and I'll be there with my husband, since I don't care to play 'alone') and some spaz player comes charging through swinging at everything in sight including us, we will sit and chat or wander somewhere else to let them go where they need to go, then wait and chat more (to allow respawning) and then wander in.

If someone asks for help, such as the other day in Cyrodil someone was having trouble getting a particular boss to respawn, we'll help. Most fun are the folks who will chat/talk and possibly exchange semi-obnoxious dancing and cheering at things.

As for the previous games - never did "finish" Morrowind. Partly because my husband started DMing an RPG based in that world so I delayed because of spoilers (although to be fair, he changed a LOT of the stuff I did "remember"). I still sometimes go back there. Still have my collection of screenshots. I fondly recall Matilda the curious Kagouti, and the bonewalker that liked getting his head rubbed (see - I take these pictures - and they never come out like I intended - and then I get weird ideas ..... )

It's possible I'm still slightly caffineated. But that is not affecting anything

Yeah, thats how I play ESO too - like any other TES game. To me it might ss well be 1-player as the world is so huge the only time I see people is at banks/markets.

All I do is expore, do quests and immerse in the story and world and read all the lore

That's exactly what I've been doing since the days of early access! And I'm still enjoying it tremendously. Even better, the way things are going now, I think I'm going to enjoy it even more, for a long time. And while I plan to keep my sub up, the very possibility to keep playing without it is a good thing.

And you say this like it matters.....?

What I want is to have fun in a "play" universe with my best friend/spouse. Our DM moved to Oregon, so this is the next best thing. And on occasion we skype with buddies and all go to Cyrodil so the differences in levels are minimized.
