A Concern Regarding PvP and Tamriel Unlimited

Times are changing for ESO, as we all can see. While I am still up in the air regarding how I feel about these changes, I do believe I am willing to give things a chance before I make any judgement, good or bad, on what has happened and the future of ESO going forward.

I do have a concern however, that I feel needs to be addressed.

I like Cyrodiil PvP. I am very much so looking forward to the Justice System as well and what will be as close to 'open world PvP' as ESO can get, once the system is in full effect. My time in Cyrodiil will not diminish however as I am also looking forward to the Imperial City as well.

My concern comes in regarding recent changes that were made to the population cap and the attempt to stem the lag issues within Cyrodiil. The reduction in the population cap, while it has reduced the lag and made game-play a bit smoother and manageable, has had the unfortunate effect of saddling the player-base with a queue, especially on NA Thornblade during prime-time. At times an inconvenient queue that can last upwards of 2 hours. This darkens the luster of Cyrodiil, especially if you only have a limited time to play and that time is taken up with a queue.

What is going to happen when Tamriel Unlimited goes live in March, and what one can assume will be thousands of new players purchasing ESO? I assume that Cyrodiil PvP will be accessible by anyone that has purchased the game, whether or not they purchase an ESO Plus Membership.

It can be assumed that many of the new players to ESO will be PvPers and with that we may very well see a significant jump up in queue times for Cryodiil. Perhaps a significant enough jump up to alienate a good portion of the already existing player-base. Prime-time PvP may even see large portions of the player-base never setting foot in Cyrodiil again simply because of the increased queue times.

So my question is this:

With the implementation of Tamriel Unlimited and the possibility of an influx of thousands of new players to ESO, what is being done to ensure that ALL players will still be able to enjoy PvP within Cyrodiil and not have to wait on ever-increasing queue times?

Excellent question. Among the first that popped into my mind as I have no interest in PvE and I don't know how-in-the-heck the Justice System will actually turn out..

I wonder if any increased interest in the game will increase Zenimax's reaction time to bugs, latency problems, and server stability. It'll certainly put them under a brighter spotlight.

I'm kind of the opinion everyone who is currently subbed should get queue priority for the life of their account, then all new subbers, then unsubs.

When the new mob comes to play, I picture a lot of pvp downtime or very long queues everywhere.

I still predict DC will have the lowest wait time, cause everyone loves ad cause all the chars look female and everyone loves buff nords in the ep and the dark elves.

Also given the plus membership is focus on increase char progression, predict they will add one final touch to it ap gains

Would prolly rather look like this:
4 hours later: "***, I got me smth to eat and missed my queue".

I hope they increase the pop limits again. It didnt help with the lag at all. Might as well remove the queues.

As long as there are still nearly empty campaigns during prime time, there is absolutely no need to raise the population caps. Instead of stubbornly queuing for a campaign like Thornblade and cry about population caps, move to a different campaign.

In the case of EU, Azura's Star was nearly empty during prime time last night and Chillrend is still a DC buff campaign asking for a revolution. Take your pick!

They removed campaigns in the past, so they can add them again if needed.

edit: right now not even all of the existing campaigns are full, so yeah. If you're stuck in queue it's your decision. Although it is true that I also hope for more DC and AD players to even out the population balance.

I am guessing that they aren't making AvA part of the paid service right away, but if they did it would entice them to work even harder on fixing Cyrodiil. No word yet on whether Imperial City will be DLC but if not why hold it back so long?

As to how an influx will effect campaigns as they are now, assuming that they are in the same state then, and that there is a large net influx of PC players interested in AvA (recall that many will go from PC to console), then yes there will be overflow into the emptier campaigns but many players will still want to join a 30-day because it allows more sense of investment and a back and forth for supremacy. Plus, at least initially, many will want to go to the "it" campaign, which will likely still be Thornblade.

So maybe something like this during major prime time(s)?

    14 Day Standard
    Chillrend: 1-3 bars all Alliances

    Non Veteran
Blackwater Blade: 1-3 bars all Alliances

    30 Day Standard
Azura's Star: All Alliances Pop Locked/Queue of 22
Thornblade: All Alliances Pop Locked/Queue of 100

    7 Day Standard
Haderus: 2-3 bars/one or two Alliances pop locked

Adding campaigns is exactly what I think will happen. Right now with the PVP populations slowly but steadily increasing, every campaign sees at least two factions reach two bars or more during NA prime time. Thornblade might not be the only campaign to see all three populations regularly locked once 1.6 arrives. More campaigns are definitely going to be needed for the XBox One and PS4 players.

Would adding campaigns that are exclusive to ESO Plus members help alleviate some of these problems?

Agreed. Queue priority is also an interesting suggestion, but may result in quite a bit of QQ-ing.

What I think they might do is close all existing Campaigns on March 16 and start a new round on March 17, redistributing the population into blank Cyrodiils once again. This will kill all existing buff servers, and hopefully spread out the population more evenly. Perhaps they will change the setup as well, and have, say, 3x 30 days, 2x 10 days (averaging the lengths of Haderus and Chillrend, and meaning the score reset is not on the same day of the week) and a couple of 10-day non-Vet Campaigns.

Tamriel Unlimited is going to include all content from Updates 1-6, which includes the Champion System and the PvE component of the Justice System. We're not quite ready to discuss the exact details of what future DLC will contain, but Tamriel Unlimited will be everything up to Update 6.

They don't need to add stuff for console players, those will have their very own servers anyway. So it doesn't affect our PC campaigns.

One of the best improvement to lag is coming into 1.6 with the partial removal of the aoe target cap.
It has been know for months that this was one of the main cause of server side lag and while it won't fix all the issues, it should be a huge step forward.
