How many people noticed that our food ingredients will go stale

By having ingredients sourced in clear ways and using combinations of food items instead of tiers of ingredients, we will be able to cut the number of ingredients in half while still providing just as many recipes as we have now (if not more). This will require most, if not all, of the existing recipes to be changed to accommodate this new paradigm.

Our current plan is to replace existing recipes and Provisioning items with the ones from the new system, matching quality as much as possible. Any additional unused basic ingredients from the previous incarnation of the system will be changed to “stale” versions of themselves, and we’d like to include some way to offload them that provides value.

...
@Kaer426 pointed this out in the crafting section (I'll let you find the thread), so I was wondering, how many of us realised that our stocks of ingredients might become utterly useless? (I know I didn't)

I copied it direct from the crafting thread, that last bit wasn't included in the discussion, I'm not sure what the method of unloading it is, maybe just selling en masse to a vendor?

Yes, I interpreted that as some sort of special vendor that will buy stale ingredients. Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer to find out what it really means.

Small list, virtually everyone crafts food.

The quote does seem to indicate they won't, but I'm still looking forward to the new recipes too.

Lots of people participated in that developer thread and presumably read those words. I did. I'm not getting upset and raging about it though (yet) since I haven't seen exactly how it will impact me. I suspect most people who are aware are reserving judgement until we see how it is implemented on the PTS.

Edit: If anyone missed and wants to see the full discussion (which started in July)
go to the Provisioning Revamp thread in the Developer Discussions section.

it would be nutz, if they made new mats, we first have to farm in order to be able to use the new recipes as well, that will make those mats the first couple of months worth lots :)

Gina does indicate that it will be "basic" ingredients. The belief would be that the additive mats which you can buy will go away, leaving only a few tiers of those grocer level mats, and all extra mats come from hirelings and drops.

I find it hard to believe that things like Pepper, Salt, Red Wheat, Honey Comb, so forth that are all used in 3-stat will just be unusable. Ya never know with ZOS now a days though, amirite?

I'm not getting upset, it just occurred to me nobody had mentioned it on General Discussion, so I thought I better had. I have far too few ingredients to worry about (even my reserves of red wheat have gone down recently, by coincidence), and I'm waiting to see how it unfolds myself.

Yep, but that appears to be the route they are taking, hopefully some of the new ingredients will be nuts

Personally I'd think the best thing to do would be to convert the unused ingredients to equivalent new ingredients. For example, if pepper is still used in the new system, but salt isn't, all of the salt in your inventory would become pepper (maybe not the greatest example, but you know what I mean).

Having said that, if it means fewer varieties of ingredients in our inventory, I'm fine with turning some types of ingredients stale and letting us vendor them for a fair price.

Up 'til now not really been bothered about the upcoming changes, MMO's change that's just the way they go.....

Now very bothered, I keep my tomatoes at the perfect temperature to keep them fresh!!

Seriously though this is not good, some of us have been farming our ingredient stocks for months. Not to mention those that only come by mail that we all save up. Guess I'm just gonna have to do a hell of a lot of cooking. :(

I now have a sense of the injustice being felt by those who have continued to play their VR14's thinking the earned XP was being tracked.

Nice idea, they've said that crafted foods will be converted, so crafting the foods wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea.

It gets converted as do recipes, so using up the ingredients might be the best option, or possibly not

I said I'm certainly not going to fly into a rage about it. I didn't say the OP was. Those of you who can't make that distinction maybe need to work on that.

The best way to start a panic in General Discussion is to post some vague information about something being taken away. There are a lot of good things coming with the provisioning changes too. I recommend reading the full provisioning post in Developer Discussions.

During the podcast where they discussed 1.6 (Dec 19 I THINK) they showed a few of the new VR10 recipes. The recipes were made up of ingredients that were both currently available as well as ones that were new which would make sense since they are a higher level than anything currently available. Lower level recipes (level 35 to VR5) I would expect to remain using currently available mats. The Alliance specific recipes (level 1 to 30) would be the exception.

I seem to recall it being mentioned somewhere that there would no longer be any alliance specific recipes (recipes 1-30). If that is true then there would no longer be any need for alliance specific ingredients. I would personally much rather have all the inventory space that would free up. I would also much rather have ONE version of a low level recipe for all 3 alliances using mats common to all 3 alliances than a different version of the same low level recipe for each alliance with each requiring mats only found in that low level alliance zone.
If they ever create a Legendary recipe it better contain bacon as one of the ingredients. I'm just sayin'.

So long as we are given something OF EQUAL VALUE to these now obsolete ingredients I'm just fine with it. Now some ingredients have ZERO value in gold with the NPC merchants. Nevertheless, they DO have value: the time you spent gathering the darn things! So I EXPECT something worthwhile for those as well. Frankly I'd be happiest if all my obsolete ingredients just magically turned into their new and improved counterparts.

But what I'm pretty sure is going to happen is that ingredients that currently have 0 gold value are going to stay that way once they're stale. Ingredients that have a gold value will suddenly have LESS value. And we're going to be left scrambling to try to get our hands on the new ingredients and our stockpiles will essentially be worthless because whatever ZOS comes up with as a "reasonable value" is not going to be at all realistic.

Re-reading, I do see where she says, "Our current plan is to replace existing recipes and Provisioning items with the ones from the new system, matching quality as much as possible. " Since I'm pretty darn sure we're going to get the shaft on all of our now stale ingredients I would HOPE they err on the side of GENEROSITY when deciding what they're going to actually replace the other ingredients and recipes with.

Well it's impossible to make that evaluation without knowing the details of how the replacement will work, and how the offloading in a way that provides value will work. Without knowing those things, you'd just be talking out of your ass if you said that it was a bad decision. You wouldn't do that would you?

So, since you wouldn't talk out of your ass, you must have insider information on exactly how the provisioning changes will affect what we've got in our inventories! Please share that info with the rest of us!

Does anyone have a list of the ingredients that are planed to go stale after the update?

If not can a DEV release one so the player base can use them up before the patch.

As I see it the only "value" potentially would be selling off the Food/Drink created from the soon to be stale inventory before the update hits.
