Dynamic and Epic Events

So I recently just watched the live stream of the SOE Live presentation for EverQuest Next, and it sounded really awesome. One of the cool things they talked about were called rallying calls. They were huge events that were completely optional, and could take weeks or even month to complete. They are events that require many, many players to participate in.

So what happens is that the player may get a request to help a village. The player base bands together to help said village, and it grows into a defended town. While helping the village, the players may have enraged a goblin king and his army attacks the village.

Stuff like this could be really cool to witness and this kind of thing could really influence how the game world is.

This is something that Dark Anchors should be turned into. Instead of having static locations (which is very boring, I think), they could drop down on a town or village at any moment. The Daedra would attack the nearby village, and it is up to the players to take it back.

Just something I am thinking about.

Thanks

I agree that Anchors need a more dynamic element. They need to have more of an impact on the world around them instead of being in their own little areas of the world. Can you imagine a big PVP battle at a keep where all of a sudden you hear that anchor sound and all hell breaks loose. And players have to choose between working together to take the daedra out, using the distraction to their advantage, etc. That's how I pictured anchors from the moment I first read about them. Maybe someday :)

I've made so many feedbacks about that. If anyone played Rift, you should know how they perfected that. I'm doubting ZOS has a plan of ever changing it, maybe someday.

About EverQuest Next though. I was so hyped for that game, but then I saw all the videos..I just can't stand cartoony games, it's even worse than WoW. Which is why ESO won't be suffering any sub loss.
Though if I'm perfectly honest, I'm predicting EQ Next to fail as hard as Archeage.

    I totally agree.

I think each zone should have a kind of Mundus fracture rate where anchors that go unclosed make the zone fall a little further into coldharbor. More of those Fissures open (which aren't randomly located throughout the zone) and eventually anchors open over the towns. The Zone never falls completely out of Mundus but if anchors are over the towns there are no merchants and no writs.

The fracture rate could have an impact on the look of the land with coldharbor Landscape features popping up. Daedrea killing all the local wildlife and mobs would have near constant battling going on. It would be chaos.

Oh! And the fracture rate of the zones in an alliance could have a negative effect on the alliance war, with buffs for having low Mundus fracture and debuffs for high Mundus fracture.

@Gidorick‌ that actually sounds really awesome! You should put that in a feedback. Maybe someone should make a poll for it. Also I feel like the PVE battle in this game (like when you are attacking a town) are kind of boring, like the NPCs and enemies are just stuck in endless duels and that is just kind of boring. But that is a completely different topic.

Oh there's so many things that COULD be added to make the world more dynamic but ZOS is having to spend their time nerfing this and balancing that. I would like to know how far behind schedule this whole champion system rebuild has put them. That was shoved into the schedule and clearly caused delays in content releases... and the release of the console versions.

If I remember right, something like this was mentioned before, but there is so much that needs to be added to ESO at the moment that dynamic events are on the very very distant horizon. Let ZOS get the game up to TES standards of housing, Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild before worrying about in world events. So, maybe in two or three more years.

Yes, Yes and yes again! I started a thread a while ago asking for world event suggestions. Although, initially I had only thought of more static events like festivals etc. Many people suggested similar events to you, like Dolmen spawns attacking villagers if no one closes the Dolmen. (Awesome!)There's even a suggestion about randomly being teleported to a plane of Oblivion which I love:

Something like this was proposed before. Might offer some interesting variations.

In the old text based MUD I played (DragonRealms) the GM's actually ran constant events where they would control mobs and npcs and have invasions of the towns or have an important character in the game world come to interact with us. We kidnapped the GM playing as a Prince of the provinces and he was forced to play along and stay in character. I would pay more to be in a game where they did this type of thing. I know that was text based and it was easier to script events but that was in 1995. I'm sure its doable by now in a graphical game.
