4 New AVA Skills and Other Skill Changes Coming in Update 6

During today's ESO Live show, Combat Lead Eric Wrobel discussed and showed some brief game play demos of the 4 new AVA skills coming in Update 6.
  • Magicka Detonation is a ranged Magicka based skill which places a bomb on an enemy that will explode after 6 seconds. When it detonates, the bomb does really high AOE damage. A morph exists which will automatically detonate the bomb if a player tries to dispel/purge it.
  • Vigor is a Stamina based AOE heal.
  • Revealing Flare is a Magicka based skill which allows the player to cast flares on a location which will reveal stealthed players in that area.
  • Guard is a Stamina based skill which allows a player to absorb projectiles aimed at nearby allies. The player who uses the skill will still be damaged by these redirected projectiles so the skill basically changes the target of the projectiles. However, Eric said the skill could be used with Reflective Scales to redirect projectiles aimed at your allies back onto the enemy who fired them.

Also, Eric mentioned again that Reflective Scales will be limiting the number of projectiles it reflects in Update 6.

Some other important items were mentioned.
  • As previously mentioned, all Magicka based skills will now scale off Max Magicka, Spell Damage and Spell Crit while all Stamina based skills will now scale off Max Stamina, Weapon Damage and Weapon Crit. Destro and Resto staves will now scale off Max Magicka, Spell Damage and Spell Crit.
  • Many (not sure if all) Magicka based Class skills will now have morphs that convert the skill to use Stamina/Weapon Damage/Weapon Crit instead of Magicka/Spell Damage/Spell Crit.
  • A full skill point refund is coming for every skill. You will need to reapply every skill point (for active skills only?) when the update arrives.
  • A few skills are going to change completely. The Inferno skill for DKs, Blinding Light for Templars and Haste for Nightblades were cited as examples.
  • Ultimate generation is changing. Light and heavy attacks will generate a fixed number while building Utilmate. The Healing Springs spam to build Ultimate will no longer be as effective.

The new AVA skils and their demos start at 1:45:25.

    *** finally we get a guard function in PvP! Been waiting for a tank mechanic for ages. This will actually make speccing for durability and survivability more useful. Lets hope it works out like in theory.

    Basically groups will become immune to ranged attacks thanks to Dk's and their Reflective scales. In group even with 5 Dk's 20 shots will be automatically fired back.

    All hope on Magicka Detonation, hope it do decent damage and won't be reflectable, it would be stupid if you cast bomb and DK simple reflects it back to you...

    P.S.
    It will be awesome when sorc tries to strike away and then bomb tiers him apart :D

    LOL. It does sound like the same ability that the serpent uses in sanctum, the way to avoid damage from it is to drain your magicka pool before detonation.

    IMO it has opened them up. Before, every one in groups was worried about if their skill would gen ulti fast enough and how many can you drop in say a minute. This will help to let everyone play a style they like without having to use skills that are there just to gen ulti and serve no other purpose.

    Thats not quite how they described it working. The mentioned a ult gen buff, that while active gens ult. You get the buff by using a light or heavy attack, or by healing someone with the ult buff. So regardless of how many people you heal, the ultimate you get from your ult buff generates at the same rate as the dps. This is how I understood what they said.

    that's not how it works

    After the patch, anytime you light or heavy attack you get a buff, that buff gives you 3 ultimate every second for 8 seconds..

    If you heal a player with that buff, You get that buff as well. so 3 ultimate every second for 8 seconds.

    I'm only sad I can't roll around building ulti. It's saved me many times rolling a few times to get those last few points of ulti before I die.

    There is no logical reason why the bomb should be reflectable. Its like Velocious curse and as it takes 6 seconds it is obviously no projectile.


    Limiting it to be only way to gain Ultimate would be totally game changing/breaking and I think they will not completly remove all Ultimate gain from AOE etc. I actually think that the light attack buff is meant for pve like trials where the only way to get Ultimate is crits atm. In order to create a greater diversity and dont force everyone to crit builds they introduced this flat ult generation.
    What we have done to reduce the inequality there is change the system to a flat generation rate. Now whenever you attack, you will gain a buff that gives you 3 Ultimate per second for 3 seconds. We settled on that number using an average character who was performing one ability (with light attack weave) per second with an average critical strike rating as a normalizing benchmark which put Ultimate generation at a rate we were happy with.
    As this does not make not sense for trash mobs / pvp where only a small amount of your ult gain is coming from crits, I doubt that they will remove all other ways to gain ultimate apart from light attacks + passives.

    The bomb skill will not be reflectable. It will function just like sorcerers velocious curse.

    Can someone clarify if the ult gain buff is completely replacing current ult gen gained from regular combat (outside of ultimate gain sets/passives). I'm assuming it does replace it.

    After seeing the guard skill I completely understand why they nerfed reflective scales.

    Inb4 Dragonknights stack dodge/miss chance + damage reduction + reflective scales + activate the guard skill :open_mouth:

    I wonder if ball of lightning will absorb all spells redirected due to the guard skill :open_mouth:
