    I'd be happy if ZOS would publish a document and even add more options so us players that like to tweak things to our hearts content can do so.

    It's generally a good idea to leave these settings alone, because they are mostly undocumented. The reason they are undocumented is that they may change their meaning or importance at any time, and may become deprecated or be replaced with new settings as the developers see fit and deem necessary. Inevitably, there will be user-written "setting guides" all over the 'net, which contain old and useless information, if there aren't already.

    Most of the settings in the file can be changed directly by altering in-game settings, but not all of them. Some may be influenced only by more general categories like overall Graphics Quality. Others are internal settings, dependent on others, or others depending on them. As long as these dependencies are not 100% known, dabbling with them may break more than it does good. A situation may arise when, after a new patch hit, things may break for those who've changed some settings a long time ago and forgotten about them.

    That being said, there has been one occasion where, after the implementation of a new graphics feature, it was explicitly stated in the patch notes which entry influences the behavior of the new feature. See the entry for COLOR_CORRECTION in the v1.3.3 patch notes.
