The fact that people have out level these by anywhere from 5 to 20 levels shows that it needs fixing. I think the best solution is to allow grouping instead of nerfing, since some people can manage at level.

Grouping or not on quests has their own algorhitms.
If they fix one quest, they'll be need to fix the WHOLE "solo-system" quests.
I passed that quest on my sorc 33-35lvl without any issues.
It must be fixed, not nerfed.

It is not a matter to make some OPTIONAL quest easier, it is about making a quest which will eventually UNLOCK game features ... DOABLE. Keep almost impossible to do quest for optional purple or epic gear, NO PROBLEM, but locking, KILLING the USEFULNESS of a character with such a quest on a HAS TO BE DONE quest, that is a MAJOR issue with the DESIGN of the game.

The key to this quest is figuring out how to deal with harvester bosses. They are much more difficult, and require a strategy that isn't similar to most creatures in this game. I didn't do the quest until level 37, and I found it pretty hard still.

The one strategy that "works" only works if I get lucky and the game doesn't lag out, my skills fire off correctly and .... almost never happens for me.

I found the Lyris doppelganger fight to be identical to the Doshia fight. You have to prioritize killing the floating globes. If you do that, she goes down easy in a couple minutes. If you let any globes touch her, it becomes very difficult.

Consider Doshia to be a practice fight for this. Same basic strategy works.

In my experience the real problem with this quest isn't the Doppelganger itself, it's that you're saddled with a companion that's actually a huge liability. Lyris does minimal damage and seems to spend her time standing by the Doppelganger making no attempt to get out of the way of the feeding attacks and effectively presenting herself as an constant health potion to the Doppelganger; as a Nightblade I just don't seem able to deal enough DPS to counter the feeding.

I also used snare spells (Agony I think) to take a breather and heal, but the spell is broken if any damage is dealt to the recipient; Lyris of course attacks the Doppelganger breaking the effect.

My preference here would simply be to be allowed to play the quest properly solo without the handicap of a companion (at which point of course I'd have to contend with the fact that a huge proportion of my attacks/skills don't actually work due to bugs!).

It's not just the Lyris Doppelganger, it's the harvesters in general.. Doshia was a pain, and I waited until I was 10 levels above her before I tried again after being killed too many times to count.. They nerfed Doshia, why can't they nerf the rest of the harvesters? I quit trying to defeat the Lyris one at level 34, and I'm level 48 now and still haven't gone back to try yet! Then, I came upon the Fighter's Guild quest "Will of The Council" today, and there's yet another harvester that can't be beaten! They really need to nerf these harvesters, they're op'd and unfair! Think I'm gonna quit with this character, and start a new character in another faction, just to get the other faction's story lines, because I hear VR is near impossible for NB's.. I'll try the Lyris Doppelganger one more time tonite, if not, I quit, and I guess I just don't get to beat Mannimarco..

As a nightblade, with probably a terrible time being effective, I was able to beat Lyris' Doppelganger. I made potions. I ate food. I died maybe a 3 times. But I completed it.

I had the exact same issue as you. No matter what I did I kept dying. Also Lyris was a absolutely useless as a follower. She would would just stand there with a thumb up her behind.

As with most people, my character was a NB and I did have to learn there is pretty much a requirement needed when doing this quest with that class type.

When I first attempted this quest I was level 35 and easily got passed the first guy, but couldn't beat the Doppleganger. I had to come back to it when I was level 44, and it was still rather hard.

One thing I changed while leveling up those 10 levels was one ability. Impulse (level 38 destruction staff). I think it is pretty much a requirement (or something very similar to it) for battling these Doshia type enemies because of the healing balls. It was too difficult to try to concentrate on hitting the healing balls individually, you had to take them out almost all at once.

Another thing I changed was not battling this enemy from a distance. Instead I got up real close and personal. Even though that meant take a few hits. I also learned how to properly bash an enemy to get out of it's grip. I also used my Strife ability to keep my health up as much as possible.

I still don't think this could have been done at a lower level. The Doshia enemy was much, much harder to battle than the third enemy you had to deal with at the end of that quest which was really strange.
Far too many characters to list any more.

Have not been able to pull this off as a dragon knight. I even rebuilt my character and tried again after building up the skills. I am now level 48 and tried again.... completed the main quest in cold harbor too... still no joy. Glad it's working for some but not too interested in completing the main story anymore.... too much needless stressing. Guess I play til content runs out ...try a new character maybe. Right now feeling uninspired though. Thinking this part is definitely a game for the more skilled gamers out there.

****okay finally got this at level 50.... and Nebthet was right.... Impulse was critical to the success... also my friend pointed out the healing part of the Draconic Power.... both helped me a great deal. (dragon blood III). I hope this helps someone else.

Many people do this quest just fine, some people do it when they're below the level, some do it above, and few can't seem to get the grasp of it. All that adds up to a balanced quest, with sub-satisfactory playing of your class/character/skill usage.
Except the 'some' in the various categories you cite are by no means balanced, if it were 'well balanced' the MAJORITY would defeat it on-level, I argue there's strong evidence that this is not at all the case and that 5+ levels are where many people hare having to go and if that's the case this is a terribly tuned fight that in its current state has no right to exist on the critical path through the game.
I agree it is not balanced at all I am lvl 33 and still could not kill her and I am a Dragonknight sword n board all the way really well balanced attribute points still cant seem to do the damage I need to counter act the walking potion I brought with me they need to fix the npc and lower manna and health pool

I've taken out bosses above my level (such as the Skald King's brother - I forget the quest name) but I'm finding the Lyris doppelganger in Halls of Torment unplayable (not least because the real Lyris is a complete waste of space who just seems to stand there feeding the doppelganger so its health pretty much stays at maximum). This quest is rated as level 30 (I'm 32) and I've died so many times I've lost count. This quest feels way above a level 30 and I seriously believe that I'd be much better of playing solo without the real Lyris who just seems to be an infinite health potion for the boss!

I have killed that one with 2 classes so far, no problem...

Check your build if you have a decent one you should just burn her down so fast you won`t even notice she has like "special" mechanics...

Stop asking ZENIMAX to make the game easier... you can just use a dps build and smack down every quest boss so fast they don`t even get to heal/do their special thing...

Ever considered that the quest is perfectly fine but the people using bad builds are not at all balanced for the content they are trying to complete?
I don't want them to make it easier just more realistic with levels

It makes a lot of difference what companion you pick, I think. I picked Abnur Tharn, and he was actually useful for most of the time. I hear Lyris is not.
