This is not a viable fix for many people. We signed up to play a game, not become tech savvy or programmers. For those of you who are, great- more power to ya. But advice like that is super scary because somebody who is not tech savvy but desperate to play the game, will try it and mess up their whole system. So don't try stuff that you don't feel skilled to try, its not worth it.

On a Mac, the thing that worked, even though its a pain in the butt, is run the repair which says its downloading a much bigger file then it actually does. Let it go to 100% and then get out of the launcher, restart your Mac and reboot the launcher. Also, sometimes, just leaving the launcher open for a bit while you surf the internet, seems to work now and then. Obviously, these are temporary solutions, ESO needs to immediately fix this very serious issue- asap. You can't charge peeps for a game they can't play. Lots of positives to the game, just saying.

I finally got my launcher straightened out after a complete uninstall and reinstall from physical disks. I think, as people have stated... that some of the servers they are using are messed up and it's luck of the draw if you get a good one or a bad one for patching/updating. They need to make an Official statement and communicate with their customers.

lol, this was stupid but it worked. I only had one .version file and it was my launcher. I'm guessing the others had gotten deleted maybe when i went to bed and ran the patch because It had redownloaded the game and had all these problems this morning. I just got the .version files from the post and put them back in the according files and ran the launcher again and it reimplemented the patch and i saw the glorious "play" button rather than "pause" or "repair" lol. Thanks for the help.

Is anyone playing on the right version? Cause I can get into the game sure, but I'm still playing on 1.0.0.9 and I can't get the thing to patch. ><

I'd rather have the right version as the mod said this could cause problems and there are enough problems already. >.>

There are many threads on all the errors going on, so apologies if this is already posted else-where.

I sent in a support request and I got a response I hadn't seen yet so I'm sharing on the forums, hope it helps others

1. Open your Launcher
2. Look at the top right hand corner for your Launcher for your Settings Option(looks like a gear icon)
3. Change Megaserver from NA to EU (or vice versa depending on which server you are usually on) and close out of the Launcher
4. Open the Launcher back up and go back to Settings and change the Megaserver back to the original server you had it on.
5. Again, close the Launcher.
6. Now once you open your Launcher back up, your issues should be resolved and/or the game launcher should allow you to again update your game.

I can't believe Zeni hasn't even acknowledged this is a problem, on the forums or anywhere else. The lack of communication is absolutely atrocious. Not even a "We know this is a problem, we're working on it"?.

That players are having to engineer their own solutions with total silence from the company is outrageous. Zeni has dropped the ball on this one, really really bad.

I know things like this happen, major screw-ups have happened in all MMOs... what is amazing to me is the wall of silence.

Got the error and solution worked... moved version files away and then back (not deleting just to be sure).

Surprised how they have managed to screw up such minor maintenance update.

Wow 7 months later and this still hasn't been fixed...

I'm in Australia and have been having this problem for ages. Tried all the fixes, they never worked for me. Interestingly if I enable my CyberGhost program (vpn) and point it at the USA so it looks like I'm accessing ESO from there, I have no patcher problem whatsoever. Also simply by selecting options in the launcher (top right) and changing the megaserver to Europe then applying takes you back the the launch screen with an option to Install. Instead of installing go straight back into options and swap it back to the US megaserver and reapply and it seems to clear the patch error for me and brings back the "Play" option and I can get in with no issue. I have no idea why this works for me, I leave that to those educated in such things, I simply post it as a possible workaround for those frustrated as I was.

ITs funny cause I played after the update yesterday, now I am getting the error 209
Tried deleting all .version files, launched, canceled, restored files, did the repair , hit %100 and PLAY button did not appear, instead same error

Well i dont think we can fix it, they gotta figure it out this one.

not sure if this post is outdated now but after the most recent patch 27/28 April (depending on time zone depends on dates) i received a "209 Error" i googled and tried this fix and it worked 1st try, as seen in one other comment this should be a sticky
