Short term housing or prefer to wait?

No, I want there to be no housing at all until such time as ZOS finally introduces whatever housing they have planned.
Long term is better than hurried up short term. The only proof of this you need is the comparison between the state of game at launch and the state of the game today.

I hope housing involves gathering materials and that you can customize the rooms in your house as well as the furniture location.

Also hope we have some kind of open world locations where people can buy terrain & place their homes.

Also hope we can hire NPCs and create stores having people specialize in selling stuff like armors food, drinks etc etc <3.

You forgot an option: I want no housing ever of any kind.

Housing kills the community in an MMO. Towns get empty and boring. Housing killed Asheron's Call which had a great community spirit until everyone started owning house and apartments. One day it was a party and the day after the housing patch it was suburbia, boring and empty. The smartest thing ZoS did was put only one bank per zone to concentrate people.

I much prefer ESO to WOW but it has no housing and I hope ZoS does the same. One of the WOW leads said "housing will be introduced to World of Warcraft some time right after "never"." I would like to hear the same from ZoS.

Player housing is an Elder Scrolls thing, the game is generic without being able to own houses.

In this game we should be able to own multiple houses, should be a huge game system in itself.

Lots of things make sense in a single player game that shouldn't be in an MMO. ZoS has been willing to change ESO to better suit the multiplayer experience so they should just drop housing. I doubt they want to destroy the game just to follow dubious canon.

Besides we are supposed to be heroes not Susie Homemaker.

Because multiplayer games are all about standing at the bank with your character merging into 30 other guys.

I dunno. looks like ZOS has been WAY too busy listening to people like you...see what that has got them (allow me to spell it out for you: everyone leaving in droves). About time they started making the game what it should be, instead of this generic grindfest.
You can't be more wrong. Zos has mostly listened to solo/casual players and that's the issue up until now.

MMO players want vertical progression. We want to grind to get cool stuff, we want to clear hard content & get awesome loot nobody else can get. Up until update 5, ZOS hadn't catered to these kind of players AT ALL. Loot from trials sucks except Aether set. Once you have it there is no need to return. The weekly rewards are random, untradable and we only get one even at #1 spot weekly when PVPers get 5 items+. Loot from Arena sucks except healer/footman jewelry and the rewards used to be totally inconsistent rewarding people who clear Hard Mode after wasting hundreds of pots with a blue shi[snip] bow. There was no incentive except achievements to go back to dungeons, no incentive to play, no great loot to aim for.

Actually all ZOS has done until update 5 is cater to the wishes of solo/casual players who crave horizontal progression. This is why new armor sets where released, modifications to existing armor sets where made, skills modifications & weapons that modify your skills where implemented, The champion system itself is a big horizontal progression grind as well as seasonal armors. Dungeon time clear achievements, time leaderboards for normal modes but not Hard Modes, customization of character's look, guild heraldry, the trade system. The whole "Play as you want" ideology is based on Horizontal progression aka what casuals & soloers are supposed to want.

And yeah, look at where this has gotten ZOS? To quote your words "People leaving in droves".

Simple fact is there will never be enough Horizontal progression for single/casual players to be satisfied and the mere proof of it is that you can't even recognize a game that is FILLED with it.

ZOS is beginning to listen to MMOers and the game is looking better and better because of it. Update 5 is a good step towards vertical progression with the changes to loot, the reason to grind dungeons for undaunted, the consistent rewards in arena, the new armor sets you have to grind to get and I do hope they keep on it because in the end, people QQ about vertical progression but they still try to be a part of it because the loot is worth it and that's what keeps people playing. Horizontal progression will never work and the mere proof is that the people it's supposed to be aimed for are the ones crying the most about the state of the game.

I guess if you haven't seen it kill a game you can't understand. Hopefully ZoS has enough MMO vets to see what a disaster housing is.

Housing does not kill games, grinding kills games.

That is demonstrably wrong. The largest MMO is all grinding all the time. Ever done dailies?

Well here's the thing...THAT MMO already exists. The people who LIKE that playstyle should definitely go play that game instead. ZoS should be focusing on what made Elder Scrolls popular as a stand alone game...and incorporate every possible bit of it to this game. I don't expect my house to have a bank in it and I expect to still need the bank but I also don't find the bank to be any kind of "community" experience.

Your housing idea is close to what I would like to see... a few tweaks though. I don't think it should be "one room or two room" choice.

    INITAL HOME RELEASE
    • Each city should have ONE house that can be purchased by players.
    • If the player doesn't own the house, they should be able to visit the house in a public instance.
    • The house should be pre-decorated.
    • Players should be able to place items in whatever containers/dressers/desks are in the house.
    • Homes should NOT be able to be sold back to the city.
    • cooking spit/pot should be in the fire

FUTURE UPDATES (Prior to fully buildable homes)
    • Each home should be able to be upgraded to be able to be freely decorated. All the items already in the home is the starting furniture set.
    • Furniture with items in it should not be able to be moved/deleted/altered in any way.
    • "resting" in your home should have in-game stat benefits of some sort ( http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/137394/expanded-rested-bonus-concept#latest )
    • inviting friends/party should be part of owning a home.
    • "Pet slots" in the home should be able to be purchased so you can let your vanity pets wander about your home by itself.
    • mannequins should be able to be purchased that you can place armor on.
    • wall-mounts for weapons and shields should be available.
    • use-able furniture with appropriate animations (specifically Chairs & Beds)
    • various crafting tables and desks should be available to purchase for the home.

I love all these ideas. But I think they are too complex to be part of a "stop gap" housing measure. While I SUSPECT ZoS is just fobbing off those who have inquired about housing with their nebulous talk of "eventually, when we can do it right" my HOPE if that they really DO have something in the works and that it will be pretty amazing and akin to what we had in Skyrim. I want to throw big dinner parties to celebrate slaughtering all those evil cultists dammit! :)

There is a house in Hollow City simply labeled "home" I think it is. I would take that instanced to me over nothing and its already there and empty.

The funny thing is I have reroll-itis, an ESO version of ADD. Anyhow, every time I do I notice something different. Today rescuing Lyris I notice that the Soul Shriven aren't wearing their long robes anymore, they are wearing helms and armor....and this is when I get aggravated with ZOS because whomever got paid to rewrite/design something stupid like that could have actually been working on idk....something broken...or something the players have been begging for. Ofc that would just be too productive
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

I like this idea and I would want it for permanent housing. This is an MMO in a world at war; I don't want to build an isolated country estate I can't defend because I'm off adventuring. I want a customizable instanced house in the city or town of my choice where I can display my treasures and let my pets roam. Maybe have a little garden and a kitchen, but I'd be happy to use the town crafting stations. I don't want to live out of banks and be at the mercy of jerks who want masses of people standing around just so they can spam spells at everyone else all day.

I think that the programming for this short term housing would probably be as complicated as the programming for the housing they say we will get in about eighteen months.

The hard part isn't the size of the houses, it's having self instanced buildings (or rooms) that only you can enter and letting you store things there. Now I suspect we won't get the storage, but even changes in decor would be hard.

And once they can do houses of any size, they can do houses of pretty much all sizes. But nice idea.

Houses will probably be the 19.99 item to be available in ESO. I just don't see how they will be able to make the save space for all us users free of charge. I understand everyone's desire to have their own homes, but you do realize your going to have dozens and dozens of players coming into and out of your front door, because they will have "your" home too (visual wise).

Personally, I'd rather have a portal to my own pocket to one of the several planes of Oblivion we've been to. It would also be a great little present after you complete the Caldwell Gold campaign considering you don't get anything but the experience and levels anyway. It happens to be the end of the PvE. That would be a great little present to end the game. Don't want a portal? Well, we got wayshrines already. Instant link to home. Just a thought, so, troll away.

I like the idea EXCEPT...I don't want to live in Oblivion. Perhaps if I eventually roll some Daedra worshipping sorcerer that would be neat but for now...I want my Bretons to live in Rivenspire and I want my Red Guards to live in Aliki'r. So I want housing that is accessed FROM those areas and that has the architectural design and style of those areas. To get that, at least in the short term, I'd be willing to put up with everyone using the same door.

In the long term I want something more elaborate and that I can actually walk around the outside of. Something much more like what we had in Skyrim.
